Preoperative Jumpstart for Decolonization of P. Acnes

Shoulder Arthropathy Associated With Other Conditions

The objective of the study is to evaluate the efficacy of preoperative treatment with a novel, wireless, low-level microcurrent-generating antimicrobial device (brand name: JumpStart) in preventing the spread of Propionibacterium acnes in patients receiving open or arthroscopic shoulder surgery.

Genicular Artery Embolization for the Treatment of Knee Osteoarthritis

Knee OsteoarthritisDegenerative Joint Disease of Knee

The purpose of this clinical research study is to examine whether Embozene treatment of the genicular artery is a safe and effective way to treat arthritic knee pain. Embozene is a medical device made by Boston Scientific approved in the United States for the treatment of hypervascular tumors and arteriovenous malformations. It consists of thousands of microscopic spheres that are injected into the artery in the knee going to the region of pain. One of the causes of pain in the setting of knee arthritis is increased blood flow going to the specific area of pain. The goal of this procedure is to decrease the blood flow (embolize) to the specific region of the knee that is causing your pain. This is done by infusing Embozene particles into the specific blood vessel (genicular artery) supplying the area of pain in the knee.

Effectiveness of Manual Therapy in Patients With Tinnitus and Temporomandibular Joint Disorder....

Tinnitus

Tinnitus is one of the most prevalent symptoms that causes more disability in patients with temporomandibular disorder (TMD). The present study postulates a possible link between temporomandibular joint (TMJ) and inner ear based on their anatomical, biomechanical and physiological relationship, proposing a physiotherapy treatment for the temporomandibular joint to improve tinnitus. The aim of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of adding specific manual therapy to a multimodal physiotherapy treatment in patients with tinnitus and temporomandibular disorder.

Influence of Intraoral Photobiomodulation in Individuals With Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction...

Temporomandibular Disorders

According to the International Association for the Study of Pain (IASP), the temporomandibular pain and dysfunction syndrome (TMD) is characterized as a subset of orofacial pain, whose signs and symptoms include pain or discomfort in the temporomandibular joints. Pain is considered one of the most common and limiting clinical manifestations. One of the most used resources to treat muscle pain is the low-level laser therapy (LLLT), However, the mechanisms responsible for the effects observed in clinical trials remain poorly elucidated, as well as therapy with light emitting diode therapy (LEDT) which, has some advantages, among them the larger area radiation point and low cost. However, its effects remain elusive in intraoral application in temporal muscle, lateral and medial pterygoid muscle. Assuming that there is need to investigate therapeutic resources that combine not only different wavelengths as well as different light sources (LED and LLLT), this study aims to evaluate the effect of photobiomodulation with a combination of different light sources on pain, joint mobility, equity and quality of jaw movements after treatment in patients with TMD. It will be made a randomized, placebo-controlled and double-blind clinical trial. Individuals participate with myogenic temporomandibular disorder, being allocated into 2 groups randomly and stratified by the method of sealed envelopes. The results will be evaluated using: RDC/TMD, digital caliper, visual analog scale, and kinematics. The protocols will be used in a 6 sessions and will be evaluated in four different moments. The analyses of the data will be performed by adopting a significance level of 5%.

Effects of Radial Shock Wave Therapy in the Treatment of Temporomandibular Joint Syndrome.

Temporomandibular Joint DisordersTemporomandibular Joint Dysfunction Syndrome

The aim of this study is to assess the effects of radial shock wave therapy in the treatment of temporomandibular joint syndrome. For this objective, subjects recruited will be allocated in an experimental group or a placebo group. Both groups will receive one manual therapy and radial shock waves therapy (real for experimental group, a sham device for placebo group) session per week along one month. Pain, neck function and quality of life measured will be performed before the intervention, after the last treatment and at one month follow-up.

Effect of Quadratus Lumborum Muscle Energy Technique in Sacroilliac Joint Dysfunction.

Sacroiliac Disorder

Sacroiliac joint as a potential source of low back pain is an overlooked problem. Yet, in the existing years there has been an increasing interest in sacroiliac joint as a pain originator and more attention is being paid into its assessment and treatment in the current literature. Muscle imbalance due to postural dysfunction involves mainly gluteus medius and hamstring; however the role of quadratus lumborum working on compensatory mechanism and its treatment effect in the management of sacroiliac joint dysfunction is yet not discovered.

The Effects of Trigger Point Treatment in Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction

Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction

The aim of this study to investigate the effectiveness of trigger point treatments (ischemic compression) on pain intensity, chronic pain severity, range of motion(ROM), pain pressure threshold (PPT) and functionality on patient with temporomandibular joint dysfunction.(TMD)

Improved Cardiovascular Health for Patients With Inflammatory Joint Diseases

SpondyloarthritisRheumatoid Arthritis1 more

Inflammatory joint diseases (IJD) are autoimmune diseases with common symptoms of joint inflammation, pain, stiffness and fatigue. Compared to the general population, this large patient-group has an increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and CVD-related mortality. Patients with IJD call for improved CVD screening and risk management as well as access to evidence-based non-pharmacological treatment alternatives. Evidence supports high intensity training (HIIT) in mitigating risk of CVD and inflammation, but the evidence of these cardioprotective benefits is unclear in patients with IJD and the feasibility of HIIT protocols in daily clinical care needs to be addressed. Cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) is an important physiological marker and highly correlated to risk of CVD. Despite strong recommendations, routine assessment of CRF is seldom performed in clinical care. The ExeHeart study will assess the potential cardioprotective and disease-modifying effect of HIIT in IJD in a randomized controlled trial. Furthermore, the ExeHeart-study will report on the validity of non-exercise measures of cardiorespiratory fitness (eCRF) measures for use in daily clinical care. Additionally, we will explore the feasibility of HIIT by addressing adherence and fidelity to the HIIT treatment protocol in a primary care setting

Periarticular Injection Versus Peripheral Nerve Block in Total Hip Arthroplasty

Hip Arthropathy

This study will assess if preoperative quadratus lumborum block (QLB)/lateral femoral cutaneous nerve block (LFCNB) with ropivacaine and glucocorticoids provide more effective analgesia than periarticular injection (PAI) with the same mixture in total hip arthroplasty (THA).
