Evaluation of Wound Management With Negative Pressure Dressing Versus Standard Dressing After Revision...
Prosthesis-related InfectionsWound Complications2 moreThe purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy of a negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) system after revision total knee and hip arthroplasty in patients at high risk for infection. It is hypothesized that the use of NPWT system (i.e., Prevena) in high risk patients prevents wound complications and decreases reoperation rates.
Study to Evaluate sUA Lowering Activity, Safety and Efficacy of Oral Ulodesine Added to Allopurinol...
GoutHyperuricemia2 moreThe purpose of this study is to determine whether ulodesine and allopurinol combined for 12 weeks are effective in treating gout in patients who are not adequately responding to allopurinol alone.
Autologous Plasma Rich in Growth Factors (PRGF) Treating the Symptomatic Knee OA
Joint DiseaseThe purpose of this study is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of PRGF infiltrations in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis.
Humira in Rheumatoid Arthritis - Do Bone Erosions Heal?
Rheumatoid ArthritisArthritis1 moreStudies on tumor necrosis factor alpha antagonist (anti-TNF) therapy in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients have found that erosive damage may "heal" in some RA patients treated with anti-TNF. Repeated examinations of adalimumab (Humira) treated RA patients, using computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasonography (US) and radiography will allow detailed assessment of the extent of bone repair/healing during adalimumab (Humira) therapy.
Study Evaluating Etanercept on Skin and Joint Disease in Psoriatic Arthritis
Psoriatic ArthritisThe purpose of the study was to compare the efficacy of 2 different Etanercept regimens for the treatment of skin and joint manifestations of psoriatic arthritis.
28 mm Ceramic-on-Ceramic Acetabular Cup Total Hip Replacement Study
Joint DiseasesThe study is designed to evaluate artificial hips with a 28 mm ceramic head and a ceramic liner to determine whether they perform as well as artificial hips with a 28 mm ceramic head and a polyethylene liner.
Effect of Chondroitin Sulphate on Synovial Inflammation in Patients With Osteoarthritis of the Knee...
SynovitisOsteoarthritis2 moreThe purpose of this study is to determine the effect of a chondroitin sulphate conventional treatment on the degree of severity of synovitis, as measured by magnetic resonance in patients with knee OA with clinical synovitis.
Knee Stability Training for Knee Osteoarthritis (OA)
OsteoarthritisJoint DiseasesPeople with knee osteoarthritis (OA) frequently complain of knee instability. This study will test whether certain exercises can improve knee stability, reduce pain, and improve physical function in people with knee OA. Study hypotheses: 1) Participants in the stability training group will demonstrate less pain and higher levels of physical function, based on self-report measures of pain and function (WOMAC, Lower Extremity Function Scale), and less time to complete the Get Up and Go test, a physical performance measure of function. 2) During walking and the step down task, participants in the stability training group will demonstrate greater knee motion during weight bearing, greater vertical ground reaction forces and loading rates, and reduced ratios of co-contraction between quadriceps/hamsting and tibialis anterior/gastrocnemius muscle pairs compared to the standard group. Participants in the stability group will also demonstrate greater step lengths, single limb support times, and average walking velocity compared to the standard group.
Role of Patient-controlled Epidural Analgesia After Total Hip Replacement
Hip Joint DisordersTotal hip replacement (THR) is frequently followed by high pain experience. Epidural analgesia is a mainstay in postoperative treatment in patients after THR. The investigators found that patient-controlled epidural analgesia (PCEA) decreases total analgesics consumption compared to conventional method of analgesia based on physician's prescription while maintaining similar pain relief and safety profile. Therefore, PCEA should be considered the first choice method of analgesia in patients undergoing THR.
Outpatient Total Joint Arthroplasty in Dedicated Daycare Facility vs Standard Patient Ward
Arthropathy of KneeArthropathy of HipThe purpose of this single center randomized controlled trial (RCT) is to investigate whether outpatient arthroplasty surgery in a dedicated daycare facility will improve discharge on day of surgery, as opposed to surgery followed by subsequent stay in the ward and also same day discharge, without compromizing safety and outcome.
