Acute Effects of Alcohol Use on Chronic Orofacial Pain
Temporomandibular Joint DisordersSelf-medication of pain with alcohol is a common, yet risky, behavior among individuals with chronic orofacial pain. Chronic pain status may affect the degree to which alcohol use relieves pain, but the independent contributions of pain chronification and alcohol-related expectations and conditioning have not been previously studied. This project addresses this gap in knowledge and will inform further research and clinical/translational efforts for reducing risk associated with these behaviors.
The Application of Radio Frequency Waves
Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction SyndromeThe aim of the study was to evaluate the influence of radio waves on the functioning of masseter muscles in the course of painful functional disorders of the organ, and thus the usefulness of these procedures in the treatment supporting temporomandibular joint dysfunction. Material and method The study group I (20 patients) and control group II (20 patients) consisted of patients, aged 19 to 45 years, of both sexes, who reported to the Consulting Room of Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction in Institute of Dentistry in Krakow to undertake prosthetic treatment of pain form of temporomandibular disorders with the dominant muscle component. Study group (I) consist of patients who were treated with the occlusal splints and radio frequency currents. In the case of application of radiation to the muscle area, the energy was 20 J and 15 J to the area of the masticatory muscles, the frequency was 3 MHz, bipolar technique, the duration of the procedure was 10 minutes, the coupling substance was a gel for ultrasound examinations. The control group ( II) consisted of 20 patients treated with occlusion splints and sonophoresis procedures. For the area of mastication muscles 0.9 W/cm² treatments were applied, the duty factor was 80%, the treatment time was 10 minutes, and the medical substance was 25%Voltaren gel.
The Effectiveness of MSAT for Patients With ROM Limitation of the Shoulders
Shoulder Joint DisorderThis study is a prospective, case-control observational trial. The investigators will compare the MSAT group to the control group to analyze the effectiveness of shoulder MSAT.
A Survey on Blood Transfusions in Major Artrhoplasty Operations
Arthropathy of HipArthropathy of KneeThe rate of hip, knee arthroplasties and their revision are increasing every year. The incidence of blood transfusion in these operations are reported 18%, 68%, and 39%, 67%, respectively. Blood transfusion is known to increase the risk of pulmonary, septic, wound and thromboembolic complications and is related to mortality. Restrictive transfusion protocols has cost-effective results in terms of reducing these complications, promoting early discharge and reduced frequency of re-admission. Within this context, we aimed to evaluate the transfusion practice in our hospital, define the transfusion indicators and compare the transfused and non transfused patients in terms of recovery.
COVID-19 Quarantine on Musculoskeletal Status in Hemophilia
Hemophilia ArthropathyBackground. The recurrence of hemarthrosis in patients with congenital coagulopathies favors the development of a progressive, degenerative and intra-articular lesion (hemophilic arthropathy) that mainly affects the knees, ankles and elbows. Pain is one of the main clinical manifestations of hemophilic arthropathy. As a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of Spain, among others, established a total confinement for two months, in order to avoid contagion of the population Objective. To assess the effect of COVID-19 confinement on bleeding frequency, pain perception, and range of motion in patients with hemophilic arthropathy. Study design. Prospective observational study. Method. 27 patients with hemophilia A and B will be included in this study. Patients will be recruited from the Spanish Hemophilia Federation (Fishemo) specialized center for hemophilia patients. The dependent variables will be: the frequency of bleeding (through a self-report), the perception of pain (measured with the visual analog scale and a pressure algometer), the joint state (with the Hemophilia Joint Health Score), and the range of joint movement (measured with a goniometer). Two evaluations will be carried out: pre-treatment (carried out in the month of February, as a periodic evaluation) and post-treatment (at the end of the period of confinement in Spain). Expected results. The aim is to observe the sequelae caused by confinement and a sedentary lifestyle in patients with hemophilic arthropathy, through changes in joint status, pain and range of motion.
Assessment of the Safety and the Performance of the SAGITTA EVL R Stems in Hip Arthroplasties
Hip ArthropathyTotal hip arthroplasty is the preferred treatment for hip disease (primary or secondary osteoarthritis, osteonecrosis, for example) and femoral neck fractures. Revision risk factors reported when considering the main surgical approaches. Studied from the Dutch arthroplasty registry found a revision rate in hemiarthroplasty (HA) of 1.6% at 1 year and 2.5% at 5 years postoperatively. For total hip replacement (THA), the rate was 2.4% at 1 and 4.3% at 5 years postoperatively. Analyze shows that the risk factors for hemiarthroplasty were male sex, age under 80 (regardless of gender), posterolateral approach and uncemented fixation. The risk factors for HAT were exactly the same, but they found that smoking also played a role. It should be noted that age as a risk factor for revision is not a risk during the first year after the fracture, but becomes one in the years that follow. In order to maintain compliance with the directive on medical devices (93/42 / EEC [M5]) and the future regulation (EU) (2017/745) relating to medical devices, SERF has set up post-market clinical follow-ups ( PMCF). This PMCF study aims to improve knowledge related to the performance, safety and benefit / risk ratio of the Sagitta EVL-R stem and to monitor patient care strategy through this clinical evaluation. Significant clinical results as well as safety must be confirmed with this patient cohort. It is important to note that this cohort reflects the specific care strategy of the University Hospital of Poitiers. Therefore, the strategy could be different between hospitals and countries.

Retrospective Evaluation of GGPSP's Safety and Clinical Performance for the Treatment of Lower Limbs...
Genu VarumGenu Valgum7 moreOrthofix is conducting this retrospective Post-market clinical follow up (PMCF) study to assess the safety and clinical performance of the GGPSP device, which is a new version of the Guided Growth Plate System (GGPS) from which it differs for small modifications compared to the original design. The purpose of the study is to collect clinical evidence from the use of the device in a representative number of pediatric patients who have already been treated with the device in the study and with at least one control visit post removal of plaque.. For this purpose, a retrospective PMCF study was considered to be the most appropriate study design to obtain the necessary information.
Evaluation of the Positioning of the Dynacup Cup "One C" Versus "Standard Dynacup"
HipArthropathyThe ceramic-ceramic friction pair is widely used today in total hip arthroplasty, including fourth-generation ceramics which show the lowest wear rate. These have considerably reduced the risk of head fracture compared to previous generations; however, the risk of insert rupture persists with rates similar to those of third generation ceramics. These ceramic fractures require complex revision surgery, which brings complications, exposing patients to the risk of third-body wear and tear related to persistent post-surgical debris. They are frequently due to an incorrect assembly of the ceramic causing intraoperative or early postoperative rupture. To fix this, manufacturers have developed pre-assembled cups in the factory. The Dynacup One C cup developed by Corin® corresponds to the pre-assembled version of the Dynacup cup, making it possible to eliminate the risk of anomaly during intraoperative assembly linked to the human factor and to offer patients with very small cups an adapted ceramic implant. A single study with a small sample compared the two implants (pre-assembled version [vs] modular version) clinically, radiologically and functionally without showing any significant difference. The lack of data in the literature comparing these two implants motivated us to conduct a randomized comparative study on a large sample of patients.
