Ozone-based Eye Drops as Adjuvant Therapy in Microbial Keratitis

Keratitis

To compare the therapeutic effect of ozone-based eye drops as an adjuvant therapy to that of the conventional topical antimicrobial agents in patients with microbial keratitis . The therapeutic response will be evaluated with clinical examination follow up .

Ultrahigh-resolution Optical Coherence Tomography Imaging of the Anterior Eye Segment Structures...

The development of optical coherence tomography (OCT) and its application for in vivo imaging has opened entirely new opportunities in ophthalmology. The technology allows for both noninvasive visualization of the morphology and measurement of functional parameters within ocular tissues to a depth of a few millimetres even in nontransparent media. Until now the resolution of commercially available OCT systems is, however, much lower than that provided by light microscopy. Recently, an ultrahigh-resolution OCT system was developed by our group providing resolutions of 1.7 and 17 µm in axial and lateral direction, respectively. This axial resolution is about four times better than that provided by standard OCT systems. It allows to perform in vivo imaging with a resolution close to biopsy of tissue and to visualize structures of the anterior eye segment with a remarkable richness of detail. The prototype was applied for in vivo imaging of the cornea including the precorneal tear film. The goal of the planned pilot study is to apply this innovative imaging modality for visualization of the ultrastructure of the different parts of the anterior eye segment structures in diseased subjects, as well as in patients who underwent minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS). The obtained in vivo cross sectional images and three-dimensional data sets are hoped for contributing to the knowledge about the anatomy and physiology of the corresponding tissues. This could allow for a better interpretation of clinical features and findings obtained in slit lamp examination.

Deep Learning for the Discrimination Among Different Types of Keratits: a Nationwide Study

KeratitisAutomatic Judgement1 more

Detecting the cause of keratitis fast is the premise of providing targeted therapy for reducing vision loss and preventing severe complications. Due to overlapping inflammatory features, even expert cornea specialists have relatively poor performance in the identification of causative pathogen of infectious keraitis. In this project, the investigators aim to develop an automated and accurate deep learning system to discriminate among bacterial, fungal, viral, amebic and noninfectious keratitis based on slit-lamp images and evaluated this system using the datasets obtained from mutiple independent clinical centers across China.

Evaluation of Next-Generation Sequencing-based Metabarcoding Versus Culturing for Microbiological...

Keratitis

Infectious keratitis is a potential sight threatening condition. In conventional clinical practice culturing is performed in order to identify the causative microbial organism; however in recent years Next Generation Sequencing for the presence of ribosomal DNA from bacteria, fungi, or amoeba has become available. The present study aims to compare conventional culturing with Next Generation Sequencing for identifying microorganism causing keratitis.

The Prevalence of Hypoesthesia Related Keratitis in Ocular Graft Vs. Host Disease (GVHD) Patients...

Ocular GVHD

The Investigators hypothesize that the recalcitrant nature of ocular GVHD may be related to corneal nerve damage and corneal hypoesthesia. The investigators aim to study the prevalence of corneal hypoesthesia in GVHD patients and its correlation with ocular surface changes.

OCT Evaluation of Neurotrophic Ulcer Following Treatment With Oxervate

Neurotrophic UlcerNeurotrophic Keratitis2 more

Neurotrophic keratitis (NK) is a condition where the cornea, or clear outer covering of the eye, has reduced sensation due to a variety of reasons. In more advanced cases of NK, the cornea can develop an area of thinning called an ulcer. The purpose of this research is to find out if Oxervate (cenegermin-bkbj 0.002%) an FDA-approved treatment for neurotrophic corneal ulcers leads to an increase in thickness of the corneal stroma (middle layer of the cornea) during and after treatment of a neurotrophic ulcer. Corneal thickness will be measured using optical coherence tomography (OCT), a non-contact imaging device used routinely in ophthalmology examinations. Corneal sensation will also be measured during and after treatment with a device called a Cochet-Bonnet esthesiometer to see if the treatment increases corneal sensation.
