Effect of Lifitegrast 5% on Tear Film Markers

Dry EyeDry Eye Syndromes1 more

The purpose of this study is to assess the duration of time (in weeks) for improvement in objective dry eye markers for people who are placed on lifitegrast 0.5% (Xiidra®), an FDA-approved therapy for dry eyes.

Prevalence of Dry Eyes in Diabetics Compared to Non Diabetics

Dry Eyes

The purpose is to compare the prevalence of dry eyes in diabetics and non diabetics. This might help identify a group of patients at greater risk for dry eye complications. Diabetics have been shown to have poor ocular surface healing and might benefit from dry eye therapy earlier if they are shown to be at greater risk for dry eyes.

Self-care Management Program for Dry Eye Disease Patients Using the heiQ

Dry Eye Disease

Dry Eye Disease (DED)is a chronic disease without a cure. Empowering patients to engage in better self-care requires knowledge of their disease and skills in self-management, which can lead to improved well-being and quality of life. The Investigation team has developed a DED self-management program (video series and educational booklet) that can be easily implemented into clinical use. The Investigators are going to use the Ocular Surface Disease Index (OSDI) to measure the dry eye in the participants. In addition, the research team plans to use the heiQ (validated questionnaire that assesses self-management and health education programs) to evaluate the DED self-management program by comparing results taken at baseline to 2 months after undergoing the self-management program.

Impact of Breathing Exercises and Meditation on Quality of Life in Dry Eye Disease Patients: A Pilot...

DepressionQuality of Life3 more

People staring at computer screens for long hours, blinking less frequently, or having long-term contact lens wear are prone to dry eye disease (DED). DED is a multifactorial disease accompanied by inflammation of the ocular surface. Further, DED may degrade vision and is associated with depression and have an adverse impact on patient's quality of life. Sudarshan Kriya Yoga (SKY) incorporates standardized collection of breathing techniques followed by Automatic Self Transcending Meditation (ASTM) may help reduce stress, depression, and anxiety, enhance quality of life in patients diagnosed with DED. Thus, the investigators will be studying the effect of SKY plus ASTM on quality of life of DED patients. The investigators plan to conduct a single-center pilot RCT. Patients with DED will be randomized to SKY followed by ASTM plus Usual care (UC) or UC alone to assess changes in health-related quality of life (HRQOL). HRQOL is a vital construct focusing on impact of health on quality of life. Along with HRQOL the investigators will measure changes in extent of depression and anxiety. Additionally, majority of current ophthalmic literature describes changes in clinical variables whilst lacking information on HRQOL. Thus, there is a high necessity to assess if there is an association between HRQOL and routinely measured clinical data. Through this study the investigators shall attempt to correlate HRQOL with clinical data.

Study of EBI-005 in Dry Eye Disease (DED)

Dry Eye

This is a randomized, double masked study designed to evaluate the safety of EBI-005 5 mg/mL topical ophthalmic solution given three times daily (TID) compared to vehicle-control over a one year period in subjects with dry eye disease (DED). Approximately 188 subjects will be enrolled to either EBI-005 or vehicle at up to 15 centers in the United States (US) and Canada.

CDSS of Traditional Chinese Medicine Intervention for Dry Eye Syndrome

Dry Eye Syndromes

This project is based on artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to screen the effective methods of traditional Chinese medicine intervention for dry eye and its applicable conditions, and optimize the traditional Chinese medicine intervention plan for dry eye through the evaluation of evidence-based medicine and expert consensus, and construct the Clinical Decision support system of traditional Chinese medicine intervention for dry eye, secondly, a real-world prospective cohort study design is adopted, the CDSS system is used in the ophthalmology clinic, and its practical application effect on patients with dry eye is evaluated.

Interest of Eye Movement Measurements in the Comprehension of Dry Eyes Symptoms

Dry Eye SyndromesBlinking

Dry eye syndrome is a benign situation however its impact on patient's quality of live and on health system is not trivial. One problem is the lack of correlation between patient's symptoms and physical sign observed on slit lamp examination. Eye blinking is a parameter of increased interest in this pathology particularly its frequency. To date no treatment of dry eye syndrome has a proven impact on eye blinking frequency. However recording of blinks has mostly been performed on short duration (3 to 5 minutes) and the distribution of intervals between 2 blinks is not gaussian but exponential. In this study, it is proposed to use modern eye-movement recorder to measure the blink frequency on longer duration (12 minutes) while reading on a screen computer and during a face-to-face interview before and after treatment of meibomian gland dysfunction responsible of moderate to severe dry eye syndrome.

Investigation on Medical Management of Dry Eye Patients

Dry Eye Syndrome

Dry eye is a common complaint in patients encountered by ophthalmologists, which may result from the inflammatory response and can occur in the absence of systemic disease. However, the management of dry eye syndrome in real setting warrants assessment but remains lacking in Taiwan. We conducted an perspective observational study to evaluate the medical management of dry eye patients.
