House Calls and Decision Support: Improving Access to Live Donor Transplantation

Chronic Kidney DiseaseEnd-Stage Renal Disease

The main purpose of this research program is to reduce the burden of end-stage organ disease on individuals, families, healthcare systems, and society by increasing the availability of donor organs for transplantation. Consistent with this aim, the project further examines strategies to increase access to and reduce disparities - racial, economic, gender - in live donor kidney transplantation (LDKT). Specifically, we expand the research and intensity of an innovative House Calls intervention developed by the principal investigator by including other minorities and socioeconomically disadvantaged patients and by adding a novel Patient-Centered Decision Support component. The main study hypothesis is that participants receiving the novel intervention (House Calls + Patient-Centered Decision Support) will have a higher proportion of LDKT's by the 2-year study endpoint.

A Study of LY2928057 in Hemodialysis Participants

Renal InsufficiencyChronic2 more

This study will evaluate the safety of LY2928057 and how LY2928057 affects hemoglobin in hemodialysis participants. This study will involve multiple doses of LY2928057 given during a 6 week period either after a participant discontinues or reduces treatment to stimulate red blood cells. This study will last up to 26 weeks for each participant.

Transplant Social Worker Support for Live Kidney Donation in African Americans

Kidney Disease

Talking About Live Kidney Donation Support (TALKS) will study the effectiveness of education, behavior, and financial support interventions to improve consideration of live kidney transplantation/live kidney donation among African Americans on the deceased kidney waiting list. We hypothesize that interventions to help potential kidney transplant recipients and their potential donors overcome barriers to live donor kidney transplant (including family discussions, financial, or logistical barriers) could improve potential recipients' receipt of live kidney transplants. The main outcomes of TALKS will include whether potential recipients (1) have potential live donors call into the transplant center on their behalf; (2) have potential donors evaluated for transplant; or (3) receive a live donor kidney transplant.

A Study of LY3113593 in Healthy Participants and Participants With Chronic Kidney Disease Treated...

Kidney FailureChronic

The purpose of this study is to look at the tolerability and safety of LY3113593. Study doctors will see how safe it is and whether it produces side effects following a single injection into a vein or under the skin in healthy participants (Part A) and participants with chronic kidney disease treated with hemodialysis (Part B). The study will also measure how much of the study drug gets into the blood stream, how long it takes the body to get rid of the study drug and what effects the study drug has on the body. This is the first time that this study drug is being given to participants. This study is for research purposes only and is not intended to treat any medical condition. For each participant, the study will last about 85 days, not including screening. Screening is required within 28 days prior to the start of the study.

Pharmacokinetics of Immunosuppressants in Renal Transplant Candidates Who Have Undergone Laparoscopic...

End Stage Renal Disease

The purpose of this study is to evaluate how quickly and to what extent different immunosuppressants are absorbed into the blood (this is called pharmacokinetics) in renal transplant candidates who have undergone a laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. The immune system is the body's defense against diseases. It also attacks "foreign" tissues such as a transplanted kidney. Immunosuppressant medications such as Astagraf sustained release (XL), Prograf, and mycophenolate mofetil may be given to suppress the immune system following kidney transplantation and prevent rejection of a transplanted kidney. This study is being performed to determine if patients who undergo laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy need different doses of immunosuppressant medications.

Effect of Intermittent Hemodialysis on Sleep Apnea Syndrome in End Stage Renal Disease Patients...

Obstructive Sleep ApneaOverhydration1 more

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of decreasing fluid overload by hemodialysis on the severity of obstructive sleep apnea, in patients with end stage chronic kidney disease on intermittent hemodialysis. It aims further to investigate the relationship between overhydration, nocturnal rostral fluid shift and the severity of sleep apnea.
