Challenges Faced By Neurophysiotherapist While Consultation Through Tele-rehabilitation

StrokeParkinson' s Disease2 more

Being the most important stakeholder of such a vulnerable population, the neuro physiotherapist faced a lot of difficulties while consulting and assessing patients with neurological impairments. Up to our knowledge and search history, this is the first-ever study conducted by us which list out the challenges faced by neuro physiotherapist while teleconsultation mode among Indian population.

Reading Problems Associated With Central Nervous System (CNS) Pathologies.

Injury BrainEye Abnormalities4 more

This project aims to analyse eye movements, their alterations and influence in reading performance in patients with acquired CNS diseases and compare them with people of the same age, without neurological or ocular pathology and with normal reading speed and pattern. The exploration is focused on the oculomotor system in patients with CNS diseases, even without involvement of the primary visual pathway, and reveals more involvement than the one obtained by a simple ophthalmological examination.

Differences Between Patients With Vascular Parkinsonism and Parkinson's Disease

Vascular ParkinsonismParkinson's Disease

Vascular parkinsonism (VP) is defined as the presence of parkinsonian syndrome, evidence of cerebrovascular disease by brain imaging and an established relationship between the two disorders. However, the diagnosis of VP is problematic. This study aims to distinguish VP from Parkinson's disease (PD) in multiple aspects including clinical features as motor ,non motor symptoms ,response to treatment ,cognitive assessments by using multiple scales, neuro-radiological features of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and transcranial color-coded duplex (TCCD) findings. This differentiation will have therapeutic and prognostic implications .

Gender Differences in Parkinsonian Patients- a Swedish Register Study

Parkinson Disease

BACKGROUND: The complex impact of gender has been studied in different perspectives of health and disease in the literature. However, few attempts have been made to compile data from systematic disease specific registrations Swedish National Quality Registers play an important role in collecting large amounts of diagnose specific data, symptoms, and treatments. The subset Parkinson Registry has been in use for more than 20 years and are represented in all counties and hospitals where neurological care is provided in Sweden and offer optimal conditions to describe gender specific differences in the use of diagnostic tools, lead times and symptom profiles.

Movement Disorders Analysis Using a Deep Learning Approach

BradykinesiaParkinson Disease4 more

Bradykinesia is a key parkinsonian feature yet subjectively assessed by the MDS-UPDRS score, making reproducible measurements and follow-up challenging. In a Movement Disorder Unit, the investigators acquired a large database of videos showing parkinsonian patients performing Movement Disorder Society-Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS) part III protocols. Using a Deep Learning approach on these videos, the investigators aimed to develop a tool to compute an objective score of bradykinesia from the three upper limb tests described in the Movement Disorder Society-Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS) part III.

The Impact of a Diagnosis of Parkinson's on Work

Parkinson Disease

Parkinson's disease leads to loss of employment on average within less than 10 years of disease onset and has been found to be associated with an increased absence from work. This combined with hospitalisation; use of secondary health services; drug usage; and caregivers needing to give up work contributed to the costs associated with the conditions. It has been estimated that early support for working age newly diagnosed would cost the government about 1.5 million Euro in the UK but might lead to a potential cost saving of over half a billion over 5 years. The study will explore the impact of a Parkinson diagnosis on employment. The study will be survey based and will include demographic questions: age, age at diagnosis of PD, educational level, and Nationality; questions pertaining to employment type, history, and reasons for leaving if this happened; and also general health.
