European Study of Cardiovascular Risk

Cardiovascular Risk FactorsHyperlipidemia4 more

The main objective of this study is to describe the management of patients with cardiovascular risk factors in primary prevention among different European countries. The patient's participation consists of a single study visit during a routine visit of the patient to the clinic/office. Study variables will be measured: By an interview between physician and patient during the visit and/or available medical records' information: social and demographic patient characteristics, relevant family medical history, current medication. By questions asked to the physician: physician perception of patients' CV risk factor, guidelines adherence and cost-containment. By measurement performed to the patient during the visit: weight, height, BMI, waist and hip circumference will be measured. CV risk factors (blood parameters) will be measured by collecting available data documented within the last year in the medical records and by the collection and analyses of a blood sample during the visit.

Effect of Genes on Rosuvastatin Therapy for Hyperlipidemia

Hyperlipidemia

Previous studies indicate that the variant status of detoxification proteins is different among Taiwanese and other ethnic groups. For example, in Taiwanese, the major SNPs of CYP2C9 are CYP2C9*2 (430C>T) and CYP2C9*3 (1075A>C) and their frequencies are different from that in Caucasians [11]. The second example is that the frequency of the A(TA)7TAA allele in the promoter area of the UGT1A1 gene is substantially lower, while for the rate of variation within the coding region is much higher in Taiwanese than that in Caucasians (14.3% vs. 35.7- 41.5% and 29.3% vs. 0.1%, respectively) [12]. The third example is that the frequency of 388A>G of the OATP2 gene in Taiwanese (0.68) [13] is in between that in European Americans (0.30) and African Americans (0.74) [14]. Therefore, the investigators hypothesize that, in Taiwanese the SNPs of detoxification proteins modulate the lipid-lowing effects of RVA and fenofibrate may be different from those for Caucasians.

Risk Assessment of Long-Haul Truck Drivers

GonorrheaChlamydia Infections7 more

International studies have repeatedly documented a substantial prevalence of sexual risk behaviors and high rates of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and other sexually transmitted infections (STI) ranging from 5%-56% amongst long-distance truck drivers ("truckers") living in diverse international settings including India, Bangladesh, South Africa, China, Laos and Thailand. The prevalence of sexual risk factors and STI/HIV in US drivers is unknown. This proposal will provide both qualitative and quantitative data on HIV risk behaviors by interviewing and testing truckers working for established long-distance trucking firms, the sector which accounts for most of the jobs in the trucking and warehousing industry in the United States. The data obtained from this study will be used to inform the development of an HIV prevention intervention for long-haul truck drivers.

The Healthy Cantonese Diet on Cardiometabolic Syndrome

Cardiovascular DiseasesCardiovascular Risk Factor4 more

The DASH diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) have been proven to lower risk of cardiovascular diseases. But the DASH diet is inconsistent with Chinese dietary pattern. In this study, based on the typical Cantonese diet, the healthy Cantonese diet is developed according to the DASH diet and the balanced dietary pattern of the Chinese Dietary Guidelines 2016. The randomized control trial is designed to investigate whether the healthy Cantonese diet has benefit to blood pressure, blood lipid, blood glucose and other cardiometabolic biomarkers among adults with cardiometabolic syndrome in Guangdong, China.

PLATOREL® STUDY IN CARDIOVASCULAR RISΚ ASSESMENT

DyslipidemiasHyperlipidemias3 more

Dyslipidemias are a major risk factor for the onset of cardiovascular disease, while early diagnosis and appropriate treatment approaches significantly reduce cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The aim is to provide revised Greek guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of dyslipidaemias. The lipids of the human body are cholesterol (it is used to synthesize cell membranes, adrenal hormones and gonads and is a component of bile) and triglycerides (used as a fuel and as a storage of energy in adipose tissue). Dyslipidemias are disorders (quantitative or qualitative) of the metabolism of lipoprotein particles [low density lipoproteins (LDL), chylomic, high density lipoproteins (HDL), very low density lipoproteins (VLDL)] that carry lipids into the body. Primary prevention in subjects aged 40-65 years with no known clinical atherosclerotic disease and without diabetes or chronic renal disease should evaluate the likelihood of a fatal cardiovascular event over the next 10 years. For this purpose, it is recommended to use the Greek version of the SCORE of the Hellenic Heart SCORE.

Compliance With Treatment For Patients With Hyperlipidemia

Hyperlipidemia

It is a prospective observational study. Patients will be high risk patients (for developing cardiovascular events) that are treated with a statin. Patients will be enrolled at a normal clinic visit and provided with a small box containing info about the disease, a LDL self-test and two questionnaires. They will test themselves for LDL at home between normal clinic visits (normally 12 months interval) and note their value. In the end of the study all patients will fill out a questionnaire with questions if the tests and info have raised their awareness of the disease as well if their motivation to be compliant has increased. We want to look at the possibility to put more responsibility for treatment and for reaching treatment goals on the patients since there's a big problem with compliance in this group of patients.

Percentage of Secondary Prevention Patients Treated to Their LDL-C Targets

HyperlipidemiasAtherosclerosis4 more

A cholesterol/lipid profile screening project of high risk patients with hyperlipidaemia (secondary prevention) who already receive cholesterol-lowering therapy. Lipid profile and rate of patients who are treated to target (which is <100mg/dl for patients with high risk and <70mg/dl for patients at very high risk) are screened (office-based specialists). The doctors therapy decisions after the screening and possible reasons for these decisions will be documented. Our aim is to evaluate dosing habits, to evaluate how many patients are treated to their LDL-C target and to underline the importance of treating patients to their cholesterol targets.

Insulin Resistance in Women With Prolactinoma

ProlactinomaInsulin Resistance1 more

Prolactin is suggested to influence insulin resistance, but scarce data is available on the metabolic profile of patients with prolactinoma. The purpose of the protocol was to evaluate cardiovascular disease risk factors in women with prolactinoma treated with dopamine agonists and to study the influence of disease control and anthropometry on their metabolic profile.
