Immune Profile and Prognosis of Malignant Liver Tumors With Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) Therapy...
Liver CancerClearing potential intrahepatic metastasis to prevent early recurrence after liver cancer treatment, there are no effective interventions so far. For secondary metastatic cancer, only the lesions visible under ultrasound can be used, one by one for local ablation and chemotherapy, but people may develop new tumor lesions. Therefore, the treatment of potential tumors and recurrent tumors after ablation is a very important clinical issue.
Effects of Anesthetic Methods on Hepatic Cancer Cell Function in Vitro
Hepatocellular CarcinomaNumerous studies find that anesthetic methods may influence the recurrence of tumor and the overall survival of patients after primary cancer surgery. Radiofrequency (RF) ablation is now widely used in the clinic for treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Currently, diverse anesthetic methods, including general anesthesia (GA), epidural anesthesia and local anesthesia (LA), are used for RF ablation surgery. Using serum from HCC surgery patients randomized to receive either GA or LA during surgery, we will investigate the effects of anesthetic methods on cellular invasion, migration and proliferation of HepG2 hepatic cancer cells in vitro. The expression levels of inflammatory cytokines in the serum from patients of both groups will also be analyzed.

A Clinical Trial Using Irreversible Electroporation for the Treatment of Liver Cancers
Hepatocellular CarcinomaMetastatic Liver CancersLiver cancer including primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and metastatic liver cancers is one the most common malignancies in the world. Over 10000 new cases per year are diagnosed in Taiwan. Despite the many treatment options, the prognosis of HCC remains dismal. More than 8000 people died of this cancer every year in Taiwan. A majority (70% to 85%) of patients present with advanced or unresectable disease. In contrast, small liver cancers can be cured with an appreciable frequency. Five-year disease-free survival exceeding 50% has been reported for surgical resection, and for the inoperable patients who do not have vascular invasion or extrahepatic spread. Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is recommended as an alternative curative therapy. However, the main drawback of RFA is its limitation to tumor size and location. The tumors larger than 5 cm in diameter or located adjacent to vessels, could not be ablated completely sometimes.
