Comparison of Extensible and Inextensible Lumbosacral Orthoses for Lower Back Pain

Low Back Pain

This study is designed to discern if the use of a lumbosacral orthesis (LSO, also call a back support) improves the short-term outcome of lower back pain. participants will receive standard care (physical therapy, physician treatment), with one group also receiving an extensible LSO, and another group receiving an inextensible LSO. The inextensible LSO has been shown to increase stiffness of the trunk in individuals while wearing it. The hypothesis is that the group wearing the inextensible LSO will have improved outcomes over the other two groups (standard care or standard care plus the extensible LSO).

Duloxetine Versus Placebo in Chronic Low Back Pain

Back Pain Without Radiation

The primary purpose of your participation in this study is to help answer the following research question, and not to provide you treatment for your condition. Whether duloxetine once daily can help patients with Chronic Low Back Pain. Patients who do not have their pain reduced by at least 30% by week 7 will be given 120 mg dose for the duration of the study. After the 13 week double blind period, patients randomized to placebo will switch to duloxetine 60 mg or 120 mg in the 41-week extension period.

Effectiveness of Percutaneous Lumbar Epidural Adhesiolysis and Neurolysis on Low Back Pain

Low Back Pain

Clinically significant improvements in the percutaneous adhesiolysis patients with hypertonic neurolysis compared to those patients randomized to the control group who did not receive adhesiolysis and hypertonic saline neurolysis. Improvement will be assessed in relation to the clinical outcome measures of pain and function. Improvements among patients with adhesiolysis and hypertonic saline neurolysis and compare to control group. Compare adverse event profile in both groups

Anticipatory Muscle Control and Effect of Stabilizing Exercises in Patients With Subacute and Chronic...

Low Back Pain

Muscular stability is essential to the spinal column to avoid harmful strain and injury to its structures. Sudden postural disturbances impose reactive internal forces through the spine. If the muscles do not react before the internal reactive forces propagate through the spine, there is a short fraction of time where the spinal column may lack sufficient muscular support. Studies have shown that in patients with low back pain deep abdominal and back muscle have a delayed response to reactive forces. The purpose of this study is to verify these findings and to investigate whether tailored interventions can improve the reaction time in stabilizing muscle around the lower spinal column i patients with subacute and chronic low back pain.

Motion Coaching Technology for Physical Therapy in Low Back Pain.

Low Back Pain

In this study, we will compare exercise execution between two groups of patients: (1) individuals who undergo instruction session by a PT and then perform exercises with a written handout at home and (2) individuals who use the mHealth motion coach at home. Participants will perform the same 4 exercises. Both groups will be instructed to exercise at home, supported either by the handouts or the Motion Coach technology and then return after 1 week for assessment. For the assessment, standardized videos will be used to capture pose during exercise execution. Group 1 will perform the exercises with the written handout; group 2 will perform the exercises with the motion coach. Rating will be performed by a panel of PT professionals on the overall assessment of each exercises and on the three segments mentioned below that are exercise specific. The first group with PT instruction and written handout portion will be compared to the second group with the motion coach.

Quality of Life in Managing Chronic Pain

Chronic Low Back Pain

This study evaluates the use of a health-related quality of life report based on the SPADE cluster (sleep disturbance, pain interference with activities, anxiety, depression, and low energy/fatigue) derived from the PROMIS-29 instrument in patients with chronic low back pain. Half of the participants will receive the report, while the other half will not.

Effects of Magnetic Tape on Perceived Spine Pain and Over Ankle Dorsiflexion in Patients With Low...

Back Pain

The tape will be applied on the lumbar area bilateralemten to the spine without creating any tension. The possible variation in perceived pain in each spinous process is measured with the Wagner Force Dial-FDK 20 algometer. The possible variation in the range of motion in ankle dorsiflexion is measured with LegMOtion® Therapeutic and Corrective Exercise Assessment System. A kinesiology tape was used as a placebo tape and the magnetic tape was used in a randomized experimental way.
