Effects of Pain Neuroscience Education With Conventional Physical Therapy in Patients With Chronic...
Chronic Low-back PainLow back pain is currently considered to be the most common cause of disability. When low back pain occurs sensitivity of body increases which decreases overall body activity.Physical inactivity negatively effects recovery from chronic low back pain.Patients with chronic low back pain experience psychological anxiety and depression which leads to fear of pain and movement. There are various treatment options for chronic low back pain. But most treatment options deal with biomedical aspect of disease.Pain neuroscience education deals with psychological aspect of disease.By combining both treatment options we will be able to evaluate the combined biopsychosocial aspect of treatment. This study will mainly focus on the education of patients regarding neuroscience be hind their chronic low back pain.
Exercise and Mindfulness in Patients With Non-specific Chronic Low Back Pain: The BACKFIT Project...
Low Back PainChronic low back pain is among the most common health problems seen in primary care, and is responsible for disability and absenteeism in our country. In most cases, it is attributed to a non-specific cause and classified as non-specific chronic low back pain (NSCLBP). Taking into consideration that multidimensional programs usually present more effectiveness reducing pain than unimodal programs, the current research investigates the role of unexplored multidimensional program (exercise and mindfulness) in NSCLBP. The primary aim of this project is to determine the effectiveness of a supervised exercise program (intervention 1) and a supervised exercise program + mindfulness (intervention 2) on pain, disability, trunk muscle endurance/strength, quality of life and gait parameters in patients with NSCLBP.
ReActiv8 for Chronic Low Back Pain (PMCF)
Chronic Low Back PainThe purpose of this Clinical Study is to investigate the effect of electrical stimulation for chronic low back pain.
Sensory Effects of Oral Opioid Treatment in Patients With Chronic Low Back Pain
Low Back PainChronic low back pain (CLBP) afflicts up to 50 million U.S. adults and is a primary cause of disability and reduced quality of life. The prescription of opioids for chronic low back pain (CLBP) has increased substantially within the past decade in the U.S. As noted by the CDC in their recent Guideline (released in March 2016): "Opioids are commonly prescribed for pain. An estimated 20% of patients presenting to physician offices with noncancer pain symptoms or pain-related diagnoses (including acute and chronic pain) receive an opioid prescription. Interestingly, patients scoring very high on measures of psychological distress tend to be systematically excluded from RCTs, even though this subgroup of patients is highly prevalent within the chronic pain population. This study will provide key information on individual differences in the outcomes of opioid treatment, and its findings should facilitate more effective tailoring of analgesic regimens to individual patient characteristic.
The Positive Piggy Bank - A Positive Activities Intervention for Improving Functional Status in...
Low Back PainInvestigators will conduct a randomized controlled trial of a 30-day positive activities intervention, Positive Piggy Bank, compared to a Wait-List control group (Figure 2). Prior to their scheduled appointment to undergo epidural steroid injection, all patients meeting study criteria will be contacted by research staff to be invited to participate in this study. Those interested will be asked to arrive 45 minutes before their regularly scheduled appointment. At that time they will learn more about the study and provide informed consent if they choose to participate. Participants will then complete the study questionnaires and be randomized 1:1 to the Positive Piggy Bank condition (n=100) or the Wait List control group (n = 100). All participants will receive the usual treatment provided at the Back & Pain Center at the University of Michigan, Department of Anesthesiology (e.g., maintenance of medication regimen, standard office visits). Post-intervention (Day 30) and 2 months after that (Day 90), participants will complete the same questionnaires by mail. The primary outcome will be improved functional status, while secondary outcomes will be symptomatic (i.e., pain, fatigue and sleep) and related to mood and well-being. After the study period, the patients in the Wait List control will be offered the Positive Piggy Bank intervention and will be asked to complete one more set of questionnaires at 30 days by mail.
The Role of Proprioceptive Deficits and Psychosocial Factors in Pregnancy-related Pelvic Girdle...
Pelvic Girdle PainLow Back PainA large proportion of pregnant women develop pregnancy-related low back and/or pelvic girdle pain (PPGP), which often does not recover spontaneously postpartum. As a result, 10% of women with PPGP still reports complaints a decade after delivery. The prevention and treatment of PPGP are thus crucial. However, the underlying mechanisms of PPGP are still poorly understood. The main objective of this study is to investigate whether lumbar proprioceptive deficits, a disturbed body perception at the lumbar spine and psychosocial factors (incl. pain-related fear of movement, depression, anxiety and stress) are associated with (1) a reduced postural control and (2) the development and/or persistence of PPGP in multiparous women during the first and third trimester of pregnancy, and six weeks and six months postpartum.

Chronic Low-back PainAnxiety1 moreThe aim of this randomized controlled trial (RCT) is to assess outcomes for virtual reality therapy (including pain intensity, pain interference, anxiety, depression, physical function, sleep, behavioral skills development, health outcomes and satisfaction) along with healthcare utilization and costs in participants with Chronic Low Back Pain.
A Master Protocol Study (LY900028) of Multiple Intervention-Specific-Appendices (ISAs) in Participants...
OsteoarthritisKnee2 moreThe purpose of the chronic pain master protocol is to compare independent pain interventions and establish an overarching structure for the disease-state addenda (DSA) and intervention-specific appendices (ISAs). The ISAs may start independently of other ISAs as interventions become available for clinical testing.
