A Pilot Study Examining the Efficacy of Biomodulator Treatment for Chronic Low Back Pain
Chronic Low Back PainThe purpose of this study is to determine the efficacy of self treatment with the Biomodulator device to decrease chronic low back pain (LBP) in active duty service members. In addition, the study will track the use of pain medication and the impact of pain on symptoms of anxiety, depression and Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD).
Pre-surgery Physiotherapy for Patients With Specific Low Back Pain
Lumbar Spine Disc HerniationSpinal Stenosis2 moreThe aim is to study if pre-surgery physiotherapy improves function, pain and health in patients with specific low back pain scheduled for surgery. Patients are followed over a two year period. A secondary aim is to study what factors predict short and long term outcomes.
Trial of Dronabinol and Vaporized Cannabis in Chronic Low Back Pain
CannabisLow Back Pain1 moreThis study will involve treating low back pain associated with nerve injury with oral delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC) or whole plant cannabis for eight weeks. Research subjects will consume either oral Δ9-THC (dronabinol), vaporized 3.7% Δ9-THC/5.6% CBD, or placebo. An analysis will then be determined to assess the risk--benefit ratio of dronabinol and vaporized 3.7% Δ9-THC/5.6% CBD .
Aquatic Exercises for Patients With Chronic Low Back Pain
Chronic Low Back PainThe goal of this study is to compare the effect of aquatic exercises (AEG) to the aquatic exercises plus aerobic training (deep-water running) (AEDWRG) on functional status and pain in patients with specific chronic low back pain.
Treatment of Back Pain Using Transcutaneous Magnetic Stimulation (TCMS)
Lower Back PainThis is a single-site, randomized, Single-blinded, placebo-controlled, trial of Transcutaneous Magnetic Stimulation (TCMS) for the treatment of lower back pain. TCMS will be applied locally to the back in the location of a patient's pain.
Effects of a Mechanical Needle Stimulation Pad on Chronic Low Back Pain
Chronic Low Back PainRecurrent Low Back PainThe needle stimulation pad is a self-care device, which has been promoted for pain control and well-being. The aim of the study was to test the efficacy of the pad for chronic/recurrent low back pain treatment. Patients with non-specific chronic or recurrent low back pain were selected from a large health insurance company database and advised to use the pad daily for two weeks; outcomes were assessed at baseline, weeks 2 and 14. Primary outcome measure was pain intensity at week 2; secondary outcome measures included the Oswestry disability index (ODI), health-related quality of life (SF-36), the fear avoidance beliefs questionnaire (FABQ), analgesic medication consumption and safety.
The Effects of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Transcranial Current Stimulation (tDCS) on Chronic...
Chronic Low Back PainOpioid Use1 moreThe primary objective of this study is to evaluate the effects of cognitive-behavioral therapy in combination with transcranial direct current stimulation in (1) improving pain and functionality, (2) reducing severity of opioid use disorders, and (3) reducing impairment in associated mental health areas (e.g., depression, anxiety, PTSD, sleep). The investigators will also determine the effects of treatment on neural activity in cognitive and limbic brain regions involved in pain regulation using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), and examine its relationship to opioid use severity.
Effects of OMT on Interoception
Chronic Low Back PainRecent evidence suggested that the anterior insula cortex seems to be the main site of interoception. Several studies showed an association between change in insula function and interoception, bodily perception and consciousness in subjects with chronic pain. Although osteopathic research has been demonstrated to be effective in reducing pain, studies exploring the effect of osteopathy on interoception are lacking. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to explore the extent to which osteopathic treatment could modify interoception parameters both measuring brain functional connectivity and clinical questionnaires.
Efficacy of SM on Postural Instability and Quality of Life in Patients With Chronic Non Specific...
Chronic Non Specific Low Back PainThis study will give a new insight to the physiotherapy fraternity in the effects of spinal manipulation in as clinical practice, as well as the patient's community in quick re-establishment of functional ability, pain decrease, and improvement of quality of life for economic reasons. In this high opinion, application of short-term intensive spinal manipulation for non specific chronic low back pain treatment is desirable.
Conventional Radiofrequency, Pulse Radiofrequency, and TENS for Lumbar Facet Joint Pain
Low Back PainObjective: The objective of this study is to compare the efficacy of TENS (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) therapy with those of the conventional radiofrequency and pulse radiofrequency therapies. Design: A single-blind randomized controlled trial Setting: An outpatient physical therapy and rehabilitation clinic Subjects: The study included 60 patients who presented with a complaint of chronic low back pain prevailing at least for 3 months and who were diagnosed with facet joint syndrome. Interventions: The patients were randomized into 3 groups so that Group 1 (n: 20) patients would receive conventional radiofrequency therapy, Group 2 (n: 20) patients conventional TENS procedure for 15 days and Group 3 (n: 20) patients pulse radiofrequency therapy. Main measures: The patients were assessed before treatment, and at month 1 and 6 for pain (visual analogue scale), disability (Oswestry Disability Index), lumbar movements (hand-floor distance), functional status (20-meter walking times, 6-min walking distances), quality of life (Short Form 36), and depression (Beck Depression Inventory).
