Visual Feedback in Chronic Low Back Pain of Pregnant and Nonpregnant Women

Low Back Pain

The objectives of this study are to: Evaluate the effect of visual feedback on the intensity of low back pain, range of motion and function of pregnant and non-pregnant women with chronic low back pain. Determine the association between low back pain, catastrophizing, fear of movement and low back perception/image.

The Effectiveness of the Massage and the Hypopressive Abdominal Gymnastics on Low Back Pain (MAS-GAH)...

Low-back Pain

The main goal of this study is to get to know if applying both, massotherapy plus hypopressive abdominal gymnastics (H.A.G) will reduce the pain of chronic non-specific low back pain. It actually reduces the inability produced by the pain and improve the patient's quality of life as well as the join range of the lumbar spine, way more than these two therapies applied separately.

Study of Opioid Use After Lumbar and Cervical Spine Surgery

Low Back PainOpiate Addiction1 more

The purpose of this project is to assess the impact of an educational video on the use of prescription opioid medication during a 6-month period following spine surgery. Subjects will be recruited from the pool of patients coming in for the pre-operative appointment prior to spine surgery. Patients that consent and enroll will be randomized to receive either a brief educational video at this appointment or usual care. Patients will be followed after surgery weekly for the first month, and then again at 6 months to determine their prescription opioid medication utilization patterns. Prescription data will also be pulled from electronic medical records.

Effectiveness of Core Stabilization Exercise in Patients With Subacute Non-Specific Low Back Pain...

Low Back Pain

The purpose of this study is to examines the effectiveness of Core stabilization exercise on pain intensity at rest, functional disability, lumbar movement and ability to perform repositioning tasks (joint position sense) in patients with subacute non-specific low back pain.

Optimization of Spinal Manipulative Therapy Protocols

Low Back Pain

Research on spinal manipulative therapy for individuals with low back pain has been hampered by a lack of understanding of which of the physiologic effects produced by spinal manipulation are related to clinical benefit, and how these effects can be used to optimize treatment outcomes. Prior research has identified physiologic effects that relate to the clinical benefits from spinal manipulation treatment. The goal of this project is to examine strategies to use these effects to identify optimized treatment protocols. The results of this project will provide critical information for future clinical trials related to spinal manipulation.

Thoracic Spine Manipulation for Individuals With Low Back Pain

Low Back Pain

The purpose of this study is to determine the short-term effects of thoracic spine thrust manipulation on participants with low back pain. Participants in this study will be randomized to receive either the lower thoracic spinal manipulation and a standard set of exercises, or a sham manipulation and the same standard set of exercises. It is hypothesized that thoracic manipulation when combined with core strengthening exercises will have positive short term improvements in pain and function for patients with LBP as compared to a sham manipulation combined with core strengthening exercises.

PNE Effectiveness Cluster Trial

Neck PainLow Back Pain1 more

This is a cluster randomized trial that involves training regions of physical therapy clinics to use pain neuroscience education or continue with usual care. The investigators will examine outcomes for patients with chronic neck or back pain.

Single Session Pain Psychology Treatment: Comparative Efficacy & Mechanisms

Chronic Low Back Pain

This study aims to compare the efficacy of a single session psychological treatment, "Empowered Relief" (ER), with the current standard of care, group Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) specifically on individuals with chronic low back pain who have pain-specific distress as indexed by pain catastrophizing scores.

Vapocoolant Spray for Reducing the Pain of Spinal Needle Insertion

Low Back Pain

This was a single-blind, randomized controlled trial. Sixty-six patients who underwent caudal epidural injection were randomized into the vapocoolant spray group or local infiltration group. Before the insertion of a 20-gauge spinal needle, the subcutaneous tissue was infiltrated with 3 ml of 2% lidocaine in the local infiltration group and vapocoolant spray was applied just before the spinal needle insertion in the spray group. 100-mm visual analog scale to evaluate the pain intensity of spinal needle insertion and a five-point Likert scale for patient satisfaction and preference for repeated use were compared between the two groups.
