Study to Demonstrate That Muscle Pattern Recognition (MPR) is an Effective Evaluation Tool for Musculoskeletal...

Neck PainLow Back Pain

The investigators hypothesize that non able-bodied participants with reported acute, sub-acute, or chronic symptoms of neck or back pain of a musculoskeletal origin will have magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), X-ray and blood parameters that do not demonstrate a statistical difference between "normal" (able-bodied) volunteers. Muscle pattern recognition (MPR) testing will show statistically different results between these groups. This statistically significant finding in MPR results will enhance a clinician's determination of clinical normality or abnormality. If this hypothesis is demonstrated, the MPR modality will be the first quantitative tool developed for assisting in the diagnosis of the presence or absence of a musculoskeletal dysfunction in a patient population. The availability of such an evaluation tool to a healthcare provider for patients with soft tissue, non-surgical neck or back complaints will substantially improve the accuracy of diagnosis and case management decisions.

A Prospective Cohort Study of MR Abnormalities and Back Pain Risk

Low Back Pain

Low back pain is a frequent cause of disability and a common reason for outpatient care in veterans. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the lower back often reveals abnormalities, which may be used to justify expensive and invasive therapy, such as surgery. Yet the link between MRI abnormalities and the risk of developing clinically significant back pain is far from clear. This longitudinal study will determine the prevalence and incidence of MRI abnormalities among veterans and determine the extent to which specific MRI abnormalities predict future development of back pain. The result should help clinicians use MR imaging more efficiently, and they may ultimately help reduce the frequency of unnecessary back surgery.

Evaluation of Return to Work One Year After a Rehabilitation Program for Chronic Back Pain

Non Specific Chronic Low Back Pain

Return to work is one of the essential objectives of functional spinal restoration programs. When the duration of the work stoppage increases, the chances of returning to work become worse. No studies have yet evaluated the value of a short 2-week restoration program. The purpose of this study is to determine whether a 2-week functional restoration program regains a return-to-work rate similar to longer-term restoration programs at one year post-program. This retrospective study with prospective referral included 200 patients with non specific chronic low-back pain who participated in a self-care rehabilitation program between May 2018 and May 2019. The program included both physical and educational approaches to dealing with the condition. The duration was two weeks with follow-up at three months. The main evaluation criterion was to evaluate the return to work rate by telephone at one year post-program. Secondary objectives were to observe return-to-work conditions, absenteeism, recovery time, pain and physical activity at one year post-program and also to observe if there was a possible association between intrinsic/extrinsic factors and return to work

Interfascial Infiltration for Acute Unspecific Low Back Pain in the Emergency Department

Low Back PainAcute

Pain relief and functional impairment have been shown to remain poor to moderate over weeks after emergency department discharge, in patients who seek ED management for acute nontraumatic, nonradicular low back pain. The investigators made the hypothesis that ultrasound-guided interfascial infiltration of local anesthesics and corticoid is efficient and safe in treating patients presenting to the ED with acute non specific low back pain. The investigators aimed to compare early and short term functional impairment and pain relief one day and 1 week after interfacial infiltration, as compared to standard medical treatment

Reliability of an Objective Measurement to Assess Lumbar Spine Motion in Healthy Controls and in...

ReliabilityValidity of Measurement to Assess Lumbar Spine Motion1 more

Main of the study is to assess the reliability of a new objective tool to measure lumbar spine motion. The data will be collected from healthy subjects and subjects with frequent or daily low back pain in the last three months. In addition we compare the results of the motion measurements with disability and pain questionnaires such as the Roland Morris, Oswestry Disability Index and the Brief Pain Inventory.

Treatment Preferences in Patients With Low Back Pain

Low Back Pain

Together with the guidance of health professionals try to obtain information from media, popular magazines and books and the internet regarding diseases and treatment methods in patients with low back pain with the development of technology. In parallel with this information which they obtained, they turn to different treatment methods. This study was carried on examining how pain duration affects treatment preferences in patients with low back pain.
