Modification of the Activity of the Prefrontal Cortex by Virtual Distraction in the Lumbago

Low Back Pain

The hypothesis of this work is that distraction is an effective way to modify the feeling and experience of chronic lumbar pain by modifying the functioning of the prefrontal cortex. The main objective of this study is to show that during chronic low back pain generated during physical exercise, virtual reality distraction leads to the modification of the activity of the prefrontal cortex. The secondary objectives are: Show a significant decrease in the average pain assessed with EVA during physical exercise with virtual reality distraction. Show an increase in the distance travelled with virtual reality distraction. Observe a decrease in perceived effort with virtual reality distraction. Quantify the adherence (presence) of subjects to the virtual environment

The Biomechanical Effects of Manual Therapy - A Feasibility Study

Low Back PainMechanical

The aim of this study is to determine the feasibility of conducting a full-scale trial to explore if there is a change in intervertebral movement following a course of manual therapy in patients with acute non-specific low back pain (NSLBP). Research Questions: In patients with acute NSLBP, does lumbar intervertebral movement change following a course of manual therapy? In patients with acute NSLBP, do those who respond to manual therapy (established by patient reported outcomes measures) have different intervertebral movement to those who do not?

To Observe the Effect of Sphinx Pose (Salamba Bhujangasana) Among Health Care Providers With Chronic...

Chronic Low-back Pain

This Randomized Controlled trial is designed to observe the effect of Sphinx Yoga (Salamba Bhujangasana) on low back pain and variation in the associated physiological parameters that help explain the beneficial effects of yoga, among healthcare providers of Karachi Pakistan. Healthcare providers with LBP (determined as per the baseline assessment) will be recruited and Substance P and Beta Endorphins will be assessed at baseline and after 3 months. The subjects with LBP will be determined based on the scores of the Oswestry Low Back Pain Disability Questionnaire, Numerical Pain Rating (NPR) scale, Roland Morris Disability Questionnaire (RMDQ) and Fear Avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire (FABQ) work subscale. Subjects meeting eligibility criteria will be randomly allotted to intervention and control groups. The study outcomes will be monitored in subjects of both groups at baseline and after 3-month follow-up (post-interventional).

Prevention and Treatment of Low Back Pain in Young Female TeamGym Gymnasts

Low Back Pain

Specific stabilization training targeting the deep trunk muscles has shown good effect in the rehabilitation of Low Back Pain (LBP) in young female TeamGym (TG) gymnasts. However, if this training can prevent LBP in this young population remains to be investigated. The aim of the present study was to investigate if a specific lumbar stabilization program can reduce and prevent LBP in young female TG gymnasts.

The Effects of Self-Natural Posture Exercise Programs on Chronic Low Back Pain

Chronic Low-back Pain

Low back pain is a major health problem across the United States, with socio-economic burden, major cause of disability, and poor quality of life. One such non-pharmacologic treatment is Self-Natural Posture Exercise (SNPE), a series of exercise programs developed in conjunction with orthodontic bracing principles. Belts are worn around the hips (pelvic correction belt) and legs (right posture belt) to assist with self-directed exercise and posture correction. A typical SNPE program has eight different movements, targeting the entire axial skeleton. The exercises can be practiced anywhere and are widely applicable to patients as exercises are low- to moderate-intensity flexibility-based muscle strength training. There are several studies from Korea examining the efficacy of SNPE; however, there are few English language studies and there are no studies from outside the country of South Korea. As such, there is little data the generalizability of SNPE, the degree of cultural acceptance in other countries, and the all-important adherence to the home exercise program. The present study proposes to be the first study outside of South Korea to examine the effects of SNPE on chronic low back patients.

Lumbar Strain

This study aims to verify the significance of the inclusion of procedures of a comprehensive therapeutic approach according to Eastern techniques to classical physiotherapy and to find out whether these Eastern techniques can contribute to the enrichment of standard physiotherapy. According to TCM and Ayurveda, another goal is to develop appropriate regimen measures to create a yoga regimen suitable for patients who have renal and bladder dysfunction according to TCM and whose main common symptom is chronic non-specific low back pain. The study is based upon comparing a four-week physiotherapy program according to the physician's indication and a physiotherapy program enriched with compiled regimen measures and yoga exercises in selected probands.
