Tai Chi for Osteopenic Women

Osteopenia

This study will assess the effectiveness of Tai Chi to affect the rate of bone loss in post-menopausal women who have been diagnosed with the initial stages of bone thinning.

Bisphosphonate Therapy for HIV-Infected Adults With Decreased Bone Mineral Density

HIV InfectionsOsteopenia1 more

Bisphosphonates are a type of drug used to prevent and treat bone loss. The purpose of this study is to determine if zoledronate, an investigational bisphosphonate, can improve bone mineral density (BMD) in HIV-infected adults. Study hypothesis: Zoledronate will reduce bone resorption in HIV-infected persons with osteopenia.

What is the Best Policy to Prevent Osteoporotic Fracture?

Osteoporosis or Osteopenia

This study aims to conduct a cost-effectiveness analysis (CEA) among the programs for preventing osteoporotic fracture. The main comparison will be made among the effects of three programs for preventing osteoporotic fractures: 1. health education; 2. exercise intervention for enhancing bone mineral density (BMD); 3. exercise intervention for preventing falls. The "cost" will be measured bases on the monetary cost of implementation of each program. The "effectiveness" will be measured includes the number of prevented osteoporotic fractures of each program, and related outcomes are the follows: 1. the medical cost of osteoporotic fracture; 2. the change of BMD in consecutive years; 3. the quality of life (QOL) of patients with osteoporotic fracture as compared to the reference population.

Influence of the Implant-prosthetic Connection in the Marginal Bone Loss and Bacterial Leakage

Dental ImplantBone Loss1 more

This study consists in a double-blinded randomized controlled trial which objective is to assess the effect of the implant-abutment connection type -external hexagon, internal hexagon and conical connection- in the periimplant marginal bone loss in vertical side and the bacterial leakage 12 months after prosthesis placement.

Crestal Bone Loss and Patient Satisfaction of Screw Retained Restoration

Bone Loss

On of the main fixed prosthetic options of completely edentulous patients is the screw-retained implant supported prosthesis which was constructed on transmucosal abutments with its encountered problems such as: hardness to make it passively seated with multiple screw fracture and loosening problems and multiple encountered veneer material fracture and so there effect on patient satisfaction with multiple maintenance recalls.so, we want to try a new technique of fabrication which was proposed for reducing the problems of lack of passivity which is the intraoral luting cement technique on titanium bases with reduced screw number but, with luting cement problems as de-cementation and cement biological effects on soft tissues and bone and there effect on number of patient recall visits and maintenance and so there effect on patient satisfaction.

Calciuric Effect and Cyclic Parenteral Nutrition in Preterm Infants

Preterm InfantsMetabolic Bone Disease

The aim of our work is to study the effect of total parenteral nutrition (TPN) cycling in preterm infants on hypercalcuria (excessive calcium excretion in urine). TPN cycling refers to administering the TPN over a portion of the day rather than the whole day. Our hypothesis is that cyclic TPN includes more hypercalcuria in preterm infants as compared to continuous TPN. Objectives: Measure Urinary Calcium(Ca) during the periods of continuous and cyclic TPN. Compare the amount of Ca losses in the urine continuous vs. cyclic TPN

Pilot Study On Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy For Osteosarcopenia

SarcopeniaOsteopenia or Osteoporosis

This prospective, single-site, single arm pilot study aims to assess the efficacy of Pulsed Electromagnetic Field (PEMF) exposure in the reduction of the decline in muscle strength, function and bone mineral density (BMD) in osteosarcopenia.

Isoflavone Treatment for Postmenopausal Osteopenia.

OsteopeniaOsteoporosis

The aim of the project is to execute a double-blind, parallel, randomized 12-month intervention trial on postmenopausal women with osteopenia (low bone mineral density), in order to determine the effects of daily intake of fermented red clover (RC) extract on estrogen dependent bone mineral resorption when compared to placebo. Both groups will recieve equivalent daily calcium, vitamin D and magnesium supplements. The project will also assess whether bioactive compounds in RC can reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular disease.
