Investigation of Trunk Neuromuscular Control in Patients With Non-specific Low Back Pain

Low Back Pain

The purposes of this study include 1) determine clinical utility of clinical observation of aberrant movement patterns during functional trunk and pelvic movements in asymptomatic individuals and patients with non-specific low back pain, 2) characterize trunk neuromuscular control in asymptomatic individuals and patients with non-specific low back pain, and 3) determine the appropriate physical therapy intervention that addresses trunk neuromuscular control deficits in patients with non-specific low back pain.

Low-Cost Tool for Compliance and Treatment-Tracking of Low Back Pain Patients

Low Back Pain

The purpose of the study is to develop, design and implement an easy-to-use, cloud-enabled software for patients with low back pain and evaluate the effect of the system on compliance and quality of life. The investigators hypothesize that a device which measures compliance to physical therapy regimens in patients with low back pain will increase patient participation.

Coping Skills Training for Living With Chronic Low Back Pain

Low Back Pain

Up to 80% of Australians experience back pain and 10% have significant disability as a result. There is a critical need for the development and evaluation of innovative treatments that have the capacity to target the multidimensional nature of chronic low back pain. This study will compare the effects and mechanisms of Mindfulness Meditation, Cognitive Therapy, and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy for chronic low back pain. Results will ultimately lead to streamlined interventions designed to efficiently maximise benefit.

Yoga for Veterans With CLBP

Chronic Low Back Pain

Chronic low back pain (CLBP) is a prevalent condition among VA patients, but many current treatment options have limited effectiveness. In addition to chronic pain, people with chronic low back pain experience increased disability, psychological symptoms such as depression, and reduced health-related quality of life. This randomized controlled study will examine the impact of yoga therapy for improving function and decreasing pain in VA patients with chronic low back pain. Although not every VA patient with chronic low back pain will choose to do yoga, it is an inexpensive treatment modality that is increasingly appealing to many VA patients. If yoga is effective, it could become an additional low-cost option that the VA can offer to better serve Veterans with chronic low back pain.

Effectiveness of Muscles Energy Technique in the Management of Chronic Non-specific Low Back Pain...

Chronic Non-specific Low Back Pain

Low back pain is the most common health problem that affects work performance and quality of life. Non-specific low back pain (NSLBP) is defined as low back pain not attributable to a recognizable, known specific pathology. NSLBP is the leading cause of disability among the major musculoskeletal conditions which leads to Impairments, Activity Limitations and participation restrictions. Therefore it becomes a psychosocial/economic burden on individuals, families, communities, industries and government. Existing literature shows globally 40% to 50% of people have LBP at some point in their lives and there exists a challenge in Africa on the best rehabilitation methods for low back pain management which could prevent chronic pain and disability. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effectiveness of MET when combined with DSE in the management of chronic NSLBP patients and to analyze the additional effect the MET procedure will provide relative to DSE.
