Cross Correlation of Pain Hypersensitivity and Clinical Features and Electromyography in Low Back...

Low Back Pain

Diagnostic and prognostic value of pain hypersensitivity in low back pain (LBP) is not fully understood.Increased pain sensitivity in the primary area of pain (local pain) is considered a sign of predominantly peripheral pain sensitization, value of pain hypersensitivity in low back pain (LBP)is not fully understood whereas pain sensitivity in distal and remote areas is considered to present a more central phenomenon. It is suggested that pat ents with enhanced pain sensitivity report high level of disability. Despite fact that pain and disability are associated in chronic LBP the exact mechanisms of sensitivity contribution in LBP disability is unknown. It has also been suggested that muscle function changes may be driven by pain. The possible role and contribution of trunk muscles function to pain and disability phenomena remain unknown. This study was aimed to estimate prevalence and possible correlation among pain hypersensitivity and functional and electromyography parameters of trunk muscles in patients reporting early phase of chronic LBP.

Lumbar Disc Space Height in Young Disc Herniation and Degeneration Patients

Intervertebral Disc DisplacementIntervertebral Disc Degeneration1 more

As low back pain (LBP) imposes a heavy socioeconomic burden, early detection of pathologic intervertebral disc change in young adults holds high clinical relevance as a common structural cause of LBP. The investigators therefore assessed the feasibility of using X-ray disc space height measurements as a predictive evaluation method of lumbar disc herniation (LDH) and degeneration in LBP patients in their early 20s.

Inspiratory Resistive Loading and Diaphragm Fatigue

Diaphragm FatigueHealthy1 more

The aim of the study is to clarify whether specific loading of the inspiratory muscles induces contractile fatigue of the diaphragm muscle in healthy individuals and individuals with recurrent low back pain.

Connective Tissue Motion Measure

Low Back Pain

The goal of this project is to develop a biomarker - the Connective Tissue Motion Measure (CTMM) -quantifying the functional behavior of perimuscular connective tissues.

MIS MiLIF Versus Open

Chronic Low Back PainLeg Pain

This study is being undertaken to compare the clinical outcomes of patients that have unilateral posterolateral lumbar interbody fusion using a traditional open approach versus the MiLIF procedure based on the MiCOR Precision Bone Allograft, specialized Atavi instrumentation, and minimally invasive visualization capabilities.

Restoration of Disc Height Reduces Chronic Low Back Pain

Chronic Low Back Pain

The investigators hypothesize that a 6-week treatment of non-invasive spinal decompression reduces discogenic low back pain (LBP), increases lumbar disk height, and that an increase in lumbar disc height is associated with decreased LBP.

Clinical Research on the Efficacy of Acupuncture Treatment in Chronic Low Back Pain

Chronic Low Back PainAcupuncture

This research is planned to build a basis about effect of acupuncture for chronic low back pain with economical efficacy. It is consisted with two sub research. First, clinical research to know the effect of acupuncture for chronic low back pain will be processed with acclate, randomized, patient, outcome-assessor masking. 130 subjects would be collected and devided into two groups(Experimental and placebo). Experimental group will undergo with real acupunture treatment twice a week, for 6 weeks and acupuncture spots would be selected for each person by clinical specialist. Placebo group will undergo with Park-sham needle and same 8 acupuncture spots would be used for all subjects also twice a week, for 6 weeks. The effect will be accessed by VAS, x-ray, ODI, SF-36, EQ-5D, BDI before and the last treatments. Second is qualitative research to make a basis through the economic evaluation and satisfaction of acupuncture treatment for chronic low back pain. 15 persons who have been treated at oriental medical hospital for chronic low back pain and 15 in experimental group and 15 in placebo group who participate the clinical research will be collected and through the personal interview, satisfaction about the treatment and economic efficacy will be evaluated.

Association of Lumbar MODIC Changes With Chronic Low Back Pain in Southern European Subjects

Low Back Pain

In this case-control study, cases were chronic LBP patients aged 30-50 in whom a lumbar MRI had been prescribed. Controls were subjects aged 30-50 in whom a cranial MRI had been prescribed for headache, who did not suffer from LBP and had no history of clinically relevant LBP. Two hundred and forty cases and 64 controls were recruited consecutively in Radiology services across six cities in Spain. Imaging findings and subjects' characteristics were gathered through previously validated instruments. Radiologists who interpreted MRIs were blinded to subjects' characteristics. A multivariate logistic regression model was developed to assess the association of Modic changes with LBP, adjusting for sex, age, body-mass index, lifetime exposure to smoking, physical activity, and disk degeneration.
