Uroflowmetry Results and Vitamin D Levels

The investigators aimed to evaluate the relationship between LUTS and vitamin D with uroflowmetry parameters in female patients. They found no relation between vitamin D levels and LUTS in respect to uroflowmetry. However, in low vitamin D patients, Ca is related with urologic problems. The investigators believe that there is a need for studies emphasizing serum Ca levels in addition to vitamin D levels in patients with LUTS.

Vesitirim™ in Men Postmarketing Observational Study

Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS)Overactive Bladder (OAB)

This is an observational study which will look at the improvement in Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS) in Irish men being treated with Vesitirim™ (solifenacin). Vesitirim™ is a competitive specific muscarinic receptor antagonist and has been used extensively for the treatment of OAB (Over Active Bladder) in women and has shown significant impact on urgency, frequency and incontinence in females. It is also indicated for the symptomatic treatment of urgency incontinence and/or increased urinary frequency and urgency in men. The purpose of this study is to evaluate LUTS storage symptom improvement in men with non neurogenic LUTS who have been prescribed Vesitirim™. The effect of Vesitirim (solifenacin) treatment on bothersome symptoms improvement will be measured using Over Active Bladder-q Short Form (OAB-qSF) and the Perception of Treatment Satisfaction (TS-VAS). The study will also help define some of the characteristics of the male population in Ireland who are treated with Vesitirim™ (solifenacin) as well as evaluating the effect of Vesitirim™ monotherapy or combination therapy on storage symptoms improvement (urgency, frequency and urge incontinence) using a bladder diary and IPSS (International Prostate Symptom Score). The study will also evaluate the effect of Vesitirim™ monotherapy or combination therapy on nocturia using IPSS. The impact of LUTS on quality of life will also be assessed. Data will also be collected regarding adverse drug reactions.

Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms

A number of men will experience bothersome urinary symptoms, which become more common as they age. A number of conditions can cause these symptoms, and general practitioners may refer men to their local hospital for further assessment and treatment. Symptoms can include poor flow of urine, the need to pass urine more frequently, or the sensation that the bladder is not completely emptying. This can be due to an enlargement of the prostate gland. These symptoms can also be caused when the bladder muscle is not able to contract (squeeze) as well as it previously has to empty the bladder. This is known as underactive bladder (UAB). It is important to distinguish between the two conditions as a cause for these symptoms, to prevent side effects from unnecessary medications or operations. Currently, men would need to undergo a bladder pressure test (urodynamics). This involves inserting a catheter via the penis into the bladder, through which the bladder is filled with fluid and pressure is measured. A separate second small tube is inserted into the rectum to measure the pressure in the abdomen. The pressure changes are observed as the bladder is filled, and then urine is passed around the catheter. A second technique for measuring bladder pressure is the use of a small inflatable cuff which is placed around the penis (penile cuff test). The bladder pressure can then be determined by inflating the cuff and interrupting the flow of urine. The bladder can be filled naturally before the test, which means a bladder catheter tube is not required. This study is designed to find out ways that the penile cuff test can be made more accurate. It will compare the cuff results to those obtained from a bladder pressure test, and will take x-ray pictures of the urinary tract during the test.

The purpose of this prospective research study is to evaluate higher neural changes following intradetrusor injection of Botulinum toxin-A (BTX-A) in patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). Concurrent Urodynamic and Functional Magnetic Resonance (fMRI) data will be recorded pre- and post- intravesical injection of BTX-A in patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and neurogenic detrusor activity (NDO). Other objectives are to evaluate the role of urinary biomarkers such as brain-derived neurotropic factor (BDNF) and nerve growth factor (NGF) associated with bladder overactivity and, to determine whether the common validated urgency questionnaires correlate with fMRI findings and urinary biomarker concentration pre- and post- BTX-A injection in patients with MS and NDO.

Women presenting with overactive bladder symptoms will be randomized to one of 3 arms (anticholinergic, beta-3 agonist, placebo). They will undergo baseline cognitive testing, functional MRI of the brain. Cognitive testing and functional MRI will be repeated after taking their double blinded intervention for 30 days.

Lower Urinary Tract SymptomsEnd Stage Renal Disease

The aim of the study is to evaluate the prevalence of LUTS in patients with moderate to severe (Stage IIIb), severe (Stage IV) CKD and ESRD : Stage V CKD) without renal transplantation (both pre-dialysis and dialysis patients). The study will also investigate the correlation between the diuresis, functional bladder capacity and LUTS in this population. By means of the obtained results, the investigators hope to be able to predict at which values of diuresis and functional bladder capacity these patients will start to develop LUTS. The investigators will also evaluate the impact of LUTS on the quality of life of these patients.

Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms

This registry study enables us to collect data on the treatment of LUTS using prostate artery embolisation (PAE), and other surgical methods to answer the following questions posed by NICE in 2013: Is PAE a safe and effective treatment option for LUTS caused by prostate enlargement? How does PAE compare with conventional surgical treatments? This will primarily be a surgical procedure called transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) (see below). Which patients would most benefit from PAE over the other treatment options?

A comparative study will be conducted and the patient will undergo a conventional urodynamic study. In order to successfully determine if the Peritron+ is capturing vesical pressure measurements consistent with conventional urodynamics the two sources of Pves will be collected concurrently.

The purpose of this study is to determine whether an intervention (pre-procedure telephone call by the investigators) will reduce anxiety in women undergoing urodynamic testing (UDT) compared to usual care. Our hypothesis is that women who receive the intervention will report less anxiety immediately before UDT than women who receive usual care.
