Benign Prostate Surgery and QOL and Sexual Function

Quality of LifeSexual Dysfunction4 more

Rationale: A variety of surgical techniques have been described for surgical treatment of male LUTS because of BPH, which has different outcomes and may result in adverse events regarding ejaculatory function and erection, resulting in a negative impact on QOL on short- and mid-term follow-ups. Objective: To compare outcomes of BPH surgery using a conventional versus ejaculation preserving technique on QOL-related aspects with emphasis on ejaculatory and erectile function. Study design: This study is a prospective longitudinal multi-center trial to compare the ejaculatory and erectile function outcomes between conventional and ejaculation preserving BPH surgical procedures/techniques. Baseline characteristics will be recorded, as well as short and mid-term follow-up. Study population: The study population comprises patients who will undergo BPH surgery in the participating centers. Intervention: All patients will undergo BPH surgery (including but not restricted to Monopolar / Bipolar Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), photo vaporisation (PVP), Plasmakinetic (PK), Holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HOLEP) or open prostatectomy (OP)). Main study parameters/endpoints: Primary endpoint is to compare the baseline to the short-term (3 months) and mid-term (6 months) ejaculation function and QoL outcomes. The secondary endpoint is the short and mid-term erection function and QoL outcomes compared to baseline. Nature and extent of the burden and risks associated with participation, benefit, and group relatedness: Patients' burden and risk associated with participating in this trial do not differ among surgical procedures or techniques used. In all groups, patients will undergo a BPH surgery and will be followed for six months at 3 visits.

Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms After Intravesical Therapy

Chemotherapy EffectChemotherapeutic Toxicity2 more

With this prospective, observational study, we would like to investigate the effect of instillation therapy using BCG or mitomycin C on short- and long-term irritative and obstructive lower urinary tract symptoms using validated questionnaires. The study will objectify the lower urinary tract symptoms and thereby provide better recommendations for therapy with mitomycin C or BCG.

GentleCath™ Air for Men Intermittent Catheter With FeelClean™ Technology

Bladder Outlet ObstructionMultiple Sclerosis6 more

This is a multicentre, prospective international observational study. Male patients in the UK, USA and France performing self-catheterisation will be asked to participate in this study. The subjects will be asked to use the GentleCath™ Intermittent Catheter with FeelClean™ Technology as per their normal routine. They will be asked to record when and where they catheterise. At the baseline, during and on completion of the study, the subjects will be asked to complete Difficulty in Catheterisation plus Intermittent Catheter related Quality of Life Questionnaires. Difficulty during catheterisation and quality of life will be assessed using the ICDQ and ISC-Q validated questionnaires during catheterisation at the start of the study before use of GentleCath™ Air has commenced (D0) and on day 1 (D1), day 15 (D15), day 30 (D30), day 45 (D45) and day 60 (D60) transcribed in a collecting record provided for this purpose. Compliance and catheter use will also be assessed. Patient confidence regarding reduced stickiness plus related risk of urethral injury and resultant bleeding or infection will also be recorded.

Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms and School Functioning in Children

Lower Urinary Tract SymptomsNeurodevelopmental Disorders7 more

Children in primary school often suffer from lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), which may negatively impact their overall well-being. Co-occurring neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) can adversely affect children as well and can cause restrictions in their daily life, especially in their school-environment. The goal of this observational study is to identify the prevalence of LUTS in Flemish primary school children. The main questions it aims to answer are: How prevalent are LUTS in regular primary education? Is there a relation with well-being in school environment? Is there an influence of co-occuring NDDs? Children, parents and teachers will be asked to fill in questionnaires related to this research question.

BPH Global Registry

Benign Prostatic HyperplasiaLower Urinary Tract Symptoms

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is one of the most common performed surgical procedures in urology. Over the past few decades there have been an increasing development of newer surgical treatment options. Additionally, the outcome parameters for BPH treatments have been standardized. While data are available for the initial pivotal studies, post-market release data are lacking. Under the umbrella of uCARE, we have started a prospective, ongoing international registry for recording demographics and outcomes for patients undergoing surgical treatments for BPH.

Neurogenic Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms in Patients With Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple SclerosisNeurogenic Bladder

There is no consensus in the literature upon the neurourological diagnostic algorithm of the patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). The primary aim of the study is phenotyping the patients with MS. These phenotypes might guide Neurology and Urology specialists during diagnosis and treatment. Secondary aim of this study is to define the presence and severity of urological symptoms' and disorders', involving the patients with diagnosis of MS less than 5 years into a urological follow-up and treatment process. Our study might include 4 visits (the first visit, 3rd month, 6th month and 12th month visit). Questionnaires, uroflowmetry and bladder diary might be repeated on each visit. Filling cystometry and pressure-flow study will be performed only on the first visit. All patients will receive 6 different questionnaires which aim to define the severity and presence of lower urinary tract symptoms. Bladder diary is an online application which will represent at least 3 days of frequency, urgency, incontinence episodes and the amount of fluid intake, and urination. The phenotypes would be defined after performing the first visit diagnostic tools (all of the tools are necessary during the diagnostic algorithm of neurogenic lower urinary tract symptoms). The phenotypes will be defined as: a. no symptoms with normal urodynamics, b. Lower urinary tract symptoms with normal urodynamics, c. no symptoms with abnormal urodynamics, d.lower urinary tract symptoms with abnormal urodynamics. During a follow-up period of 1 year, changes in the bladder diaries and scores in questionnaires of these groups will be compared on each visit.

Ureteral Stent Related Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms- A Comparative Study

Ureteral Stent-Related Symptom

Pigtails are inserted to relieve of pelviureteral system independent of the underlying cause. Pain, Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms (LUTS), hematuria and fever can be some of the early complications after their insertion..More than 80% of the patients mention significant amount of pain limiting their daily activities while 78% mentions LUTS. The local irritation from the pigtail in the kidney and the ureterovesical junction, the urine reflux through the pigtail, length and size of the pigtail are some of the factors that account for the Ureteral Stent Related Symptoms (USRS) .Important role also has the length of remaining pigtail within the bladder as well as the drainage capacity, the lack of elasticity and the migration within the bladder of the pigtail .Aim of this study is to correlate the physical properties of the pigtail (length, size) with the complications after the insertion.
