Environmental Factors to Increase Patient Comfort During Urodynamics Testing

Lower Urinary Tract SymptomsUrologic Diseases

Urodynamics is a comprehensive study of the lower urinary tract. Although the information obtained from urodynamics answers several questions and assists in guiding therapies for patients, the testing environments is unnatural and may be distressing for patients. This may impact the results of the study, as it is not uncommon for patients to be unable to void for the test due to their distress. Often to alleviate the distress, music or soothing noises are used in the background. The study aims to identify simple environmental factors which may improve patient experience with urodynamic testing. The population will include patients with existing appointments for urodynamics testing at the Mayo Urology Clinic. The investigators plan to assess patient satisfaction and comfort during this assessment using a visual analog scale questionnaire. The environmental variables will include music of the patients' preference, the sound of running water, or no background noise at all. By asking patients to complete a questionnaire, The investigators will be able to assess ways to improve patient comfort in a commonly used urologic assessment.

Lower Urinary Tract SymptomsPosture Disorders in Children3 more

This study aimed to examine trunk and lower extremity biomechanics among children with lower urinary tract dysfunction (LUTD). It was targeted to pioneer including biomechanical changes into treatment if detected in the trunk and lower extremities of children. Voluntary participants meeting inclusion criteria were divided into two groups: the LUTD group (n=43) and the healthy group (n=43). No treatment was applied to participants and the same evaluation methods were used in both groups. Trunk muscle strength, muscle endurance, posture, flexibility, and pelvic floor muscle activity of participants was evaluated with stabilizer pressurized biofeedback unit, sit-ups and modified push-ups test; trunk flexors endurance test and Modified Biering Sorensen Test; Posture Screen Mobile And Foot Posture Index; sit-reach-test and Beighton Score; and NeuroTrac-Myoplus4Pro, respectively. In addition, the quality of life of participants was evaluated with Pediatric Quality of Life Inventory (PedsQL).

Primary Care Management of Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms in Men

Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms

The PriMUS Study aims to develop a clinical decision support tool to help GPs more accurately diagnose and manage LUTS in men. The study will recruit 880 men across three research hubs in Bristol, Newcastle and Wales. Men will all receive a series of simple index tests in primary care (following NICE Clinical Guidelines) and a urodynamics reference test. The study will then compare which combination of the simple index tests give the best prediction of the urodynamics result, which can then be incorporated into the clinical decision support tool.
