Massage With Frankincense and Myrrh Oil in Treating Chronic Low Back Pain
Low Back PainThis randomized controlled study was conducted to determine the effect of massage with frankincense and myrrh oil in treating chronic low back pain. A total of 91 individuals over the age of 18 who agreed to participate in the study, who had no verbal communication problems, and who had complaints of low back pain for at least the past three months were included in the study. In this research, 3x2 (experiment, control and plasebo group x pre-test post-test) split plot design was used The data were collected using the data sheet, Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), Aberdeen Low Back Pain Scale (ALBPS) and Roland-Morris Disability Scale (RMDS). Standard treatment was applied to all three groups for three weeks, every weekday. In addition to the standard treatment, 2 sessions of waist massage per week were applied to the aromatherapy Group with frankincense and myyrh essential oil and to the Placebo Group with jojoba fixed oil in accordance with the aromatherapy protocol. Massage was not applied to the control group. In the results of working, the decrease in RMDS (p <0.001), ALBPS (p <0.001) and VAS (p <0.001) scores of the aromatherapy group was found to be statistically higher than the other two groups. As a result, aromatherapy massage with Fankincense and Myyrh essential oil can be added to traditional treatments as an easy-to-apply complementary health application with no significant side effects to relieve pain and reduce disability in an individual's daily life in chronic low back pain patient care.

These changes cause low back pain by affecting the musculoskeletal system as well as the endocrine, cardiovascular and renal systems. Pregnancy-related low back pain is defined as recurrent pain in the lumbopelvic region lasting more than one week. It can manifest itself in pregnancy as low back pain, lumbar pain, pelvic pain and lumbopelvic pain where both are present. In order to cope with low back pain in pregnancy and to increase the quality of life, low back pain should be evaluated in antenatal and postnatal follow-ups. Risk factors should be examined, women in the risk group should be identified, their low back pain experience should be questioned, prevention and coping strategies and the effect of low back pain on their quality of life should be evaluated. Healthy lifestyle programs should be developed to help prevent low back pain and develop coping strategies for pregnant women with low back pain.

In other words, whether participants and outcome assessors can accurately perceive randomly assigned interventions is unclear. This feasibility trial was conducted as part of a doctoral epidemiology course at the University of Zurich, Switzerland. Within the practice-based context of the class and using a study population of healthy graduate students enrolled in the course, the investigators aimed to evaluate blinding of participants randomly assigned (similar to tossing a coin) to one of two manual therapy interventions (active versus control). The investigators also aimed to assess blinding among outcome assessors.

Feasibility of Using Functional Progression to Guide the Treatment of Adolescent Low Back Pain
Low Back PainSpondylolysis1 moreThe goal of the proposed research is to test the feasibility of a functional progression program to reduce cost and possible radiation exposure for adolescent athletes with low back pain. Specifically the investigators plan to test the feasibility of using progression in rehabilitation to pragmatically differentially diagnose and treat adolescent athletes with low back pain, instead of using advanced imaging which is the current practice. The investigators propose to recruit 20 participants, with 10 of usual care (advanced imaging) and 10 of proposed intervention (functional progression) to assess the feasibility of using functional progress to guide treatment. The outcomes measured will be number of days for rest, time to start regular rehabilitation, pain experienced, functional outcomes, ability to return to sport, time needed to return to sport. If this pilot demonstrates the feasibility and a decreased rate of advanced imaging and similar clinical outcomes the investigators plan to progress this work into larger trials.
