Collection of Airway, Blood and/or Urine Specimens From Subjects for Research Studies
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)Smoking4 moreThe purpose of this study is to obtain biologic materials from the blood, airways and/or urine of normal individuals and individuals with lung disease. The normal are used to establish a set of normal ranges for various parameters. These provide control information when compared to individuals with various pulmonary diseases, and will help in understanding of the etiology and pathogenesis of various lung diseases. The underlying hypothesis is that the pathologic morphological changes in the airway epithelium must be preceded by changes in the gene expression pattern of the airway epithelium and potentially in macrophages.
Health in Smart Rurality: Impact on Coordination of Care of Telemonitoring and Data Centralization...
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary DiseaseHeart FailureChronic diseases are frequent (around 10% of the total population and 30% after 60 years) and accelerate age-related functional decline. Concerning cross-border patients, use of health services can be delayed given the distances, the lack of rapid road access and the limited availability of public transport and the complex organization of coordinated care. One of the ways to reduce acute exacerbations and preserve the quality of life of patients is to detect warning signs early. One of the ways to do this is to use new communication technologies.
Investigation of Arm Swings Characteristics in Patient With Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease...
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary DiseasePostural; Defect3 moreThe former aim of this study is to determine whether the arm swings change in patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) according to healthy subjects. The latter purposes to investigate the correlation between balance parameters and arm swing, how to change arm swing according to severity of the disease, and to determine the relationship between balance and the severity of disease, the relationship of posture both arm swing and severity of disease in patients with COPD. In accordance with this purposes, 20 patients with COPD who have Global Initiative for Chronic Obstruction Lung Disease (GOLD) stage 1-2-3 and 20 healthy controls will be included between the ages of 40 and 65, respectively. Tests and questionnaires will be used in order to determine the severity of COPD and to evaluate posture. Berg Balance Scale, Time Up and Go Test, 6 Minute Pegboard and Ring Test, 6 Minute Walk Test and gait analysis will be performed. It is expected that by determining the parameters that can be affected by severity of COPD. It is estimate to have information about severity of the disease by means of observational analysis. It will guide professional working in the field.
Wearable Devices in the Recovery Phase of Acute Exacerbations of COPD (AECOPDs)
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary DiseaseChronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease ExacerbationThe purpose the study is to successfully characterize the recovery phase of acute exacerbations of COPD in the outpatient setting using remotely captured physiologic data from wearable devices, to compare this with patient self-reported symptom data, to determine which physiologic variable(s) best correspond with AECOPD recovery, and to further document the feasibility, data quantity, data quality, and COPD outpatient usability experience with wearable devices.
Avoidable Hospitalizations/ Emergency Department Visits- Systematic Review and Meta-synthesis of...
DiabetesHeart Failure6 moreThe aim of the study is to synthesize qualitative evidence related to preventable hospitalizations/ emergency department visits from the perspectives of patients, their families/caregivers, health care providers, and stakeholders, in the hope to identify generalizable conclusions about why social risk factors matter to preventable hospitalizations/ emergency department visits
The China National COPD Screening Program
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary DiseaseThe national COPD screening program is in a cross-sectional manner at the baseline, planning to recruit a total of 800,000 participants from 160 districts or counties (5,000 for each site on average) from 31 provinces, autonomous regions or municipalities directly under the central government of China. The filtered COPD high-risk population and confirmed COPD patients will be managed and followed up according to the standardized clinical guidelines. The major aims of the program are to estimate the prevalences of COPD high-risk population and under- or miss- diagnosed COPD patients, and to manage the development and outcomes of the disease.
Boston Early-Onset Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) Study
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary DiseaseChronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is often caused by cigarette smoking, but genetic predisposition also influences COPD susceptibility. The purpose of this study is to identify genetic factors that predispose some individuals to develop COPD.

All Diagnosed Health ConditionsADD/ADHD59 moreWe are the missing link in clinical trials, connecting patients and researchers seamlessly and conveniently using a mobile health platform to advance medical research. We make it easy for patients to contribute to research for medical conditions that matter most to them, regardless of their location or ability to travel.
COPD Patient-Powered Research Network
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary DisorderChronic Obstructive Lung Disease2 moreThe COPD Patient-Powered Research Network (COPD PPRN) is a patient research registry with the goal of enrolling 75,000 or more COPD patients and those at risk who are willing to share their heath information over several years and participate in research. The COPD PPRN has built an online platform to allow volunteers to enroll electronically, complete surveys, be contacted about studies they qualify for and become connected to COPD resources. The goal of the registry is to speed research to find better treatments for COPD and ultimately a cure.
Developing an Intervention to Optimize Virtual Care Adoption for COPD Management
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary DiseaseVA is a leader in virtual care (VC), including the patient portal, mobile apps, and telehealth programs. VC has great utility for managing chronic conditions like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, adoption of many VC services has been slow. Lack of awareness about these services is one of the most prominent patient- and healthcare team-facing barriers to adopting VC. This study will develop, refine, and pilot a stakeholder-informed multicomponent implementation strategy to support adoption of VC, referred to as VC-OPTIONS (Virtual Care for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Adoption Support). This feasibility trial will pilot the VC-OPTIONS implementation strategy to assess feasibility and acceptability and gather preliminary effectiveness data to inform a larger hybrid effectiveness-implementation trial. The core component of VC-OPTIONS will be the provision of information via VA's Annie texting program to empower patients with knowledge about the array of VC services and how they can be used to support COPD management. It is hypothesized that this strategy will be acceptable and feasible. This work will improve patient and team awareness of and communication about VC services, and support patient access to VC services for COPD management.
