Comparison Between a Non-elastic Falcro Device and Current Method After Total Knee Arthroplasty...

Lymphedema

Swelling is a common problem after knee arthroplasty often leading to delayed wound healing, lasting functional impairment and hematoma. Due to this complications, sometimes the risk for deep venous thrombosis is raised. This study investigates a new self adjustable device to reduce swelling more effective postoperatively. The investigators compare the new device to the current general practice by using a standard class 1 elastic stocking

New Therapeutic Approach in Upper Limb Lymphedema Secondary to Breast Cancer: Activity-oriented...

Breast Cancer LymphedemaPost-Mastectomy Secondary Lymphedema

This study evaluates the effectiveness of an experimental proposal therapy for upper limb lymphedema secondary to breast called Activity-oriented proprioceptive antiedema therapy (TAPA) facing the consensual gold standard treatment, the complete decongestive therapy. TAPA consists in: Health education / patient empowerment. Neurodynamic activities oriented to Activities of Daily Living (ADL). Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation exercises oriented to ADL. Self-adherent self-adhesive antiedema of low compression. Half of patients will receive TAPA treatment while the other half will receive CDT standard treatment.

The Sequelae of Mastectomy and Quadrantectomy Respect to the Reaching Movement in Breast Cancer...

Breast CancerPain4 more

The hypothesis behind our study was that patients after BC surgery, who underwent quadrantectomy or mastectomy, may present a different disability respect to the upper limb on the operated side. Accordingly they could have a different functional recovery patterns after rehabilitation. The aim of our study was to compare the recovery of the fluidity of the reaching movement (Jerk) as the primary outcome, the reduction of shoulder pain and improvement of disability for the upper limb respect the operated side as secondary outcomes, before and after a specific rehabilitation protocol treatment.

Two Different Physiotherapy Programs in Lymphedema Following Head and Neck Cancer Treatment

Head and Neck CancerLymphedema of Face1 more

The aim of this study was to determine the effects of complex decongestive physiotherapy (CDP) and home programs on internal/external lymphedema, staging, fibrosis, and three-dimensional (3D) surface scanning and volume evaluation in head and neck lymphedema. Twenty-one patients were randomly divided into three groups: CDP; home program including self manual lymph drainage (MLD) and exercises; and control. CDP included MLD drainage, compression, exercise, and skin care. Self-MLD and exercises were performed by home program group patients. Assessment methods were applied at baseline and 4 weeks later for all groups. MD. Anderson Cancer Center Head and Neck Lymphedema Protocol was implemented to evaluate head and neck external lymphedema, staging, and fibrosis. An Artec Eva 3D scanner and the Autodesk ReCap Photo Studio software were used to determine and calculate the volume of the head and neck region via 3D surface scanning. Head and neck external lymphedema and fibrosis assessment criteria were performed to evaluate visible soft tissue edema and the degree of stiffness. To assess internal lymphedema, Patterson's scale was applied using fiber-optic endoscopic imaging.

The Recovery of Reaching Movement in Breast Cancer Survivors: Two Different Rehabilitative Protocols...

Breast CancerBreast Cancer Lymphedema7 more

This study emphasizes the importance of rehabilitation in breast cancer survivors after mastectomy, even during the course of radiotherapy and chemotherapy, both for good efficacy in reducing pain and for functional recovery of the upper limb. Authors designed a randomized-controlled trial to compare two different rehabilitation protocols: the single rehabilitative treatment (ST) and the group treatment (GT). The study is the first attempt to measure the reaching movement after BC surgery with an optoelectronic evaluation system previously standardized in the neurological field during rehabilitation treatment.

Complete Decongestive Therapy With Negative Pressure for Lipedema and Lymphedema Therapy

LipedemaSecondary Lymphedema

This study is designed to investigate the therapy outcomes from routine physical therapy in persons with lipedema and secondary limb lymphedema. Complete decongestive therapy (CDT) is a common conservative treatment to optimize lymphatic functioning using exercise, compression, lymphatic stimulation and skin care. PhysioTouch is a gentle graded negative pressure device designed to enhance lymphatic stimulation that is used by the skilled therapist in conjunction with hands on techniques of tissue mobilization for enhanced clearance of lymph stasis in persons with lymphedema. This study will investigate the conservative treatment impact in patients with lipedema and lower extremity lymphedema using this conservative available technique.

Comparison of Kinesiotaping and Pressure Garment on Women With Upper Extremity Lymphedema Following...

Breast Cancer Lymphedema

Breast cancer is a standout amongst the most widely recognized cancer among women. It is observed that upper extremity lymphedema is one of the most dangerous and prevalent complication following breast cancer surgery which prompts functional impairment, psychological disaster and social problems This study aimed to compare the effects of Kinesio taping and the pressure garment application on secondary lymphedema of the upper extremity and quality of life following mastectomy after breast cancer. Material and Methods: In this experimental study with pre and post-tests, 66 women with lymphedema following mastectomy were randomly allocated to Kinesio taping (KT) group (n=33) and pressure garment (PG) group (n=33). The KT group received Kinesio taping application, while the PG group received pressure garment (40-60 mmHg) for at least 15-18 hours per day through the study. All patients were evaluated to record the changes of the limb circumference, Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI), hand grip strength and quality of life at baseline and end of intervention.
