Factors in Learning And Plasticity: Healthy Vision
Central Visual ImpairmentMacular DegenerationA greater understanding of plasticity after central vision loss can inform new therapies for treating low vision and has the potential to benefit millions of individuals suffering from low vision. The treatment of low vision is particularly relevant to the mission of the National Eye Institute (NEI) to support research on visual disorders, mechanisms of visual function, and preservation of sight. The comparison of different training and outcome factors is in line with the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) Research Domain Criteria (RDOC) framework and studies in an aging population are consistent with the mission of the National Institute on Aging (NIA).
Effect of Omega-3 Fatty Acid Supplementation on Dry-AMD Progression
Age-Related Macular DegenerationThis multi-center, randomized, double-blind (subjects and doctors), placebo controlled study will evaluate the effect of krill oil on dry-AMD progression. The pilot study will observe biochemical and hematologic biomarkers changes after 3-month treatment between the krill oil group and placebo group
Validation of Bulbicam for DR- and AMD-patients
Diabetic RetinopathyAge-Related Macular DegenerationAim To investigate repeatability and stability of the six OTH-related Bulbicam tests in patients suffering from a) Diabetic retinopathy (DR), b) Age related macular degeneration (AMD) and matched healthy controls (HC). To compare Bulbicam and the Standard Method on measurements of Visual Field and Pupil To contribute to the establishment of normal range for DR and AMD patients with different degree in the disease development related to the Bulbicam tests. To contribute to the establishment of normal range for a normal population without eye-disease related to the Bulbicam tests. Study population The study consists of the following three study populations: 1) Patients suffering from DR of both genders above 18 years of age with different disease degree; 2) Patients suffering from AMD of both genders above 18 years of age with different disease degree; 3) Gender- and age-matched HC without any eye diseases. Study procedure Participants, who fulfil the inclusion criteria; do not meet any of the exclusion criteria and willing to give informed consent to participate will receive an appointment for starting the study. The Bulbicam examination will be performed twice a day with a rest period of one hour between each registration. This procedure will be repeated the following two days. All demographic data, social factors and history of disease will be recorded at screening. Additionally, the quality of life (QoL) questionnaires EQ-5D-5L developed by EuroQol will be recorded initially as individual baseline values. The Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) version 4.0 will be used for measuring and classifying the tolerability and toxicity at the end of each day of investigation.
Therapy of Age-related Macular Degeneration
Age-Related Macular DegenerationPeople with the disease age-related macular degeneration (AMD) are treated with the Medical Eye Trainer (MET) system to improve their vision. The training is carried out over 2 months.
Evaluation of New Head-mounted Visual Aids Among Patients With Low Vision
GlaucomaAge-related Macular Degeneration2 moreGlaucoma, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), retinitis pigmentosa, RP, diabetic retinopathy (DR) are the most common blinding eye diseases in the world. Vision and visual field are often severely impaired, quality of life is reduced, and personal and family burdens are heavy. This kind of low vision people, can use visual AIDS and other instruments for visual rehabilitation training, maximize the function of residual vision, improve the quality of life. Beyes, HOLA, Acesight and OXSIGHT are among the latest eyeglasses devices that are expected to improve the quality of life for people with low vision. This research group intends to recruit advanced patients with primary glaucoma, AMD, RP, DR and other common blinding eye diseases who visited Zhongshan Ophthalmology Center of Sun Yat-sen University from June 2021 to December 2022 to study the changes of visual function and quality of life after wearing this new type of head-worn visual aids, and analyze relevant factors combined with clinical data. To evaluate the effect and influencing factors of the new head-mounted visual AIDS on patients, and provide theoretical basis for subsequent clinical research.
Medico-economic Evaluation of Anti-VEGF Treatments in the Treatment of naïve Age-related Macular...
Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD)Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is the leading cause of blindness after 50 years in industrialized countries, compromising daily activities and reducing quality of life. And whose treatment is one of the first health expenditures. Since September 2015, Bevacizumab, which does not have marketing authorization in AMD, has been given a temporary recommendation for use. Studies in other countries have shown that bevacizumab is cost-effective in the treatment of AMD compared to other anti-VEGF therapies used.
A Study to Compare LY09004 and Eylea in the Treatment of Wet Age-related Macular Degeneration(wAMD)...
Age Related Macular DegenerationA randomized, double-blind, parallel controlled, multicenter clinical trial to compare the efficacy and safety of LY09004 and EYLEA in the Treatment of Wet Age-related Macular Degeneration(wAMD)
Stargardt-like Macular Dystrophy (STDG3) Secondary to Mutations in ELOVL4
Stargardt-Like Macular DystrophyBackground: STDG3 is an inherited eye disease. Currently there is no treatment for STDG3. Past studies of STDG3 have largely looked at members of large families at a single time point. Researchers want to learn more about the disease at an individual level. Objective: To understand the natural history of changes in the retina that occur in people with STDG3. Eligibility: People ages 10 and older with STDG3 due to a variant in the ELOVL4 gene. Design: Participants will have 6 visits. First they will have a screening visit, followed by a baseline visit. Then they will have a visit 6 months later. Then they will have a visit 1, 2, and 3 years after the first visit. Visits will last 4 to 8 hours. Visits will include the following: Medical history and physical exam. Complete eye exam. Participants' eye pressure and ability to see letters on a vision chart will be tested. Their pupils will be dilated with eye drops. Pictures will be taken of the retina and the inside of the eye. Questions about participants' family history, especially the presence of eye disease. Visual field test. Participants will be seated in front of a large dome and asked to press a button when they see a light within the dome. Electroretinogram. Participants will sit in the dark with their eyes patched for 30 minutes. Then they will wear special contact lenses and watch flashing lights. Optical coherence tomography. Cross-sectional pictures will be taken of participants' retinas. Fundus autofluorescence. Blue light will be shone into participants eyes to assess the health of the retina....
Study of New Mutations in Cone Disorders
Retinal DystrophyCone-Rod3 moreHigh throughput sequencing gives the opportunity to improve the genetic diagnosis for patients suffering from retinal dystrophies and specially from cone disorders. However, a large number of mutations are identified, mostly in introns of the genes, and in silico analysis are not sufficient to assign the pathogenicity of these mutations, without which the diagnosis confirmation cannot be done. For that purpose, a functional analysis of intronic variants of unknown significance detected in patients, with minigene splice assays in parallel with the analysis of the effect of the variant on splicing directly in the cells of the patient, by analyzing the RNA from leucocytes, fibroblasts, lymphoblastoïd cells or precursor of photoreceptor cells, which is the only proof of pathogenicity for variants
Impact of Regular Consumption of Grapes on Eye Health in Singapore Older Adults
Eye HealthAge-related Macular DegenerationAging epidemics in Singapore are rapidly increasing and Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) prevalence is significantly associated with older age. This study aims to understand the effect of consuming freeze-dried table grape powder on AMD in an older population.
