Genetic Evaluation of Renal Cell Carcinoma; Predicting Biomarkers for Renal Cell Carcinoma

Kidney Cancer

Recruitment of participants to the study takes place at the urological department at Zealand University Hospital, Roskilde, Feb. 2018-April 2018. 10 people with diagnosis of renal cancer should be recruited in phases 1. Subsequently, biological materials from 100 patients with kidney cancer will be used from the national Biobank. In phase 3, 10 patients will be recruited for the final gene test.

Peritoneal Carcinomatosis Extent Evaluation: Radiologic, Laparoscopic and Pathologic.

Peritoneal Carcinomatosis

pathologically proved ovarian cancer patients that underwent contrast enhanced abdomino-pelvic CT and diagnostic laparoscopy before cytoreductive surgery (CRS) will be included in the study. Calculation of PCI (peritoneal cancer index) using Sugarbaker's method, peritoneal carcinomatosis extent will be categorized into low, moderate and large. Agreement in general and in each category between CT, laparoscopy, surgery and pathology will be assessed using kappa agreement.

Risk Factors for Concurrent Endometrial Carcinoma in Patients With a Curettage Diagnosis of Endometrial...

Endometrial Carcinoma

Objective: To examine the risk factors for coexisting endometrial carcinoma in patients with endometrial hyperplasia. Method: Seventy-seven patients who received hysterectomy for endometrial hyperplasia were enrolled and divided into the non-endometrial carcinoma group (57) and the endometrial carcinoma group (20) depending on the final pathology. Clinical variables were analyzed.

Measuring Temperatures of Tissues During Endoscopy

CarcinomaUndifferentiated

Previous studies have indicated that tumors are warmer than the surrounding tissues. We want to ascertain that this is true for tumors in the GI tract. If so, a thermal camera in an endoscope may aid the diagnosis of tumors. The experiment entails inserting a cannula sheathed thermocouple into the work canal of an endoscope or a colonoscope. The examining physician will bring the distal end to touch the tumors he finds and their adjacent tissues, noting their respective temperatures. This experiment must be conducted before embarking on the complicated and costly project of producing a tiny thermal camera which will be able to navigate the GI tract.

A Study of Gene Polymorphisms and Normal Tissue Radiation Injury in Patients Treated for Breast,...

Breast CancerGlioma6 more

This study will examine, for the first time, the independent contribution of a patient's own genetic makeup to the development of post-radiation complications, permitting the future development of predictive tests to avoid radiation injury. To do this, the investigators will examine gene markers in a series of breast, prostate, brain and lung cancer survivors who have received conformal radiotherapy between 1996 and 2003 at the Cross Cancer Institute and Tom Baker Cancer Centre.

Hypercoagulable Parameters as Predictors of Thrombotic Events and Prognosis in Patients With Advanced...

Non-Small Cell Lung CarcinomaVenous Thromboembolism

The association between cancer and thrombosis is well known and the occurrence of thrombotic complications is commonly associated with poor prognosis. The aim os this study is to determine the possible value of hypercoagulable parameters as prognostic parameters in advanced non-small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC).

Genetic Studies in Liver Cancer Patients

Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one the most common malignancies in the world, especially in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia. Since 1984, it has been the leading cause of cancer death in Taiwan. About 6000-8000 people died of this cancer every year in Taiwan. DNA microarray (DNA chip) is a very powerful tool to clarify the genetic changes in cancers. Expression profiling techniques have been used to simultaneously monitor the expression of thousands of genes from human tumor samples. It has been successfully used to predict clinical outcome and survival as well as classify different types of cancer. In this study, we will use the DNA chip to study the genetics in liver cancer patients.

MOLecular Characterization and Treatment of THYroid Carcinoma on Struma Ovarii

Ovarian Cancer

Thyroid carcinoma on struma ovarii (TCSO) is a rare ovarian tumor, derivate from monodermic teratomas. It represents about 0.01% of overall ovarian tumours, and 5 to 10% of struma ovarii. The diagnosis is histologic and retrospective after pelvic surgery. Because of its rarity, the treatment of TCSO is not consensual and should be validated in multidisciplinary team involved in rare ovarian carcinoma. TCSO should be taken care of as a thyroid carcinoma, in case of relapse, with systemic treatment, as tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI), without any clinical trial proving this benefit. Indeed, molecular profiles and genomic expression is unknown, because of studies with few patients (less than 10) contrary to thyroid carcinomas with the TCGA genomic classification. The study purposes are the outcome of the patients after the first treatment and the comparison of the genomic profil in next generation sequencing (NGS) with TCGA thyroid carcinoma profile. Thus, the treatment could be tailored, confirming the same therapy as in thyroid carcinoma.
