Impact of Maternal Stress on Infant Stunting

Maternal; MalnutritionInfant Malnutrition7 more

This study takes place in rural Mam-Mayan communities of Guatemala characterized by high rates of childhood stunting. It aims to characterize women's exposure to nutrition, infection and psychosocial stressors vs. resilience factors, to evaluate the cumulative impact of maternal-level factors (nutritional, infectious, psychosocial), social factors (autonomy, social support, domestic violence), and household factors (socioeconomic status, food security) on early infant growth, and to evaluate whether maternal cortisol may be a mediator in the vertical transmission of stress.

The Nutrition Care in Canadian Hospitals Study; 2010-2013.

Malnutrition

The Nutrition Care In Canadian Hospitals study, conducted by the Canadian Malnutrition Task Force had the primary purpose of determining the prevalence of malnutrition in Canadian acute care hospitals. Secondary objectives were to determine the independent association of malnutrition with patient centred outcomes (e.g. length of stay) and describe the nutrition care processes for malnourished and well nourished patients.

The Nutritional Status of Chemo-radiotherapy Patients

MalnutritionCancer

Cancer patients are one of the patient groups at highest risk for the development of malnutrition. Anti-cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy, can further heighten the risk due to the nutrition-related toxicities experienced during this time. This study aims to baseline the nutritional status of chemo-radiotherapy patients undergoing treatment at the Alan Walker Cancer Care Centre (Darwin), identify contributors to nutritional deterioration and determine if there is a difference between Indigenous and non-Indigenous patients.

Phase Angle and Mortality in Patients With Cirrhosis

Malnutrition

A few PhA cut-off points have been proposed to define malnutrition in cirrhosis, and they have proven to be useful in prognosticating severity of the disease and mortality. However, PhA needs specific validation in different ethnic groups. The aim of this study was to evaluate the PhA cut-off value that would best define malnutrition and predict mortality in patients with liver cirrhosis.

Validation of a Nutrient Profiling System for Reformulation

Nutrition Poor

The objectives of the study are to assess the validity of Nestlé reformulation criteria in two national dietary surveys: the US NHANES 2011, and the French INCA2 2006-07.

Novel Meal Service Improves Nutritional Intake

Malnutrition

This study aims to investigate whether a novel meal service FoodforCare (FfC), comprising 6-protein-rich meals a day following proactive advice from a nutritional assistant, improves dietary intake and patient satisfaction, compared to the traditional 3-meals a day service (TMS).

Analysis of the Impact of the Undernutrition on the Cerebral Infarct in Thrombolized Patients

Thrombosis

Many clinical trials show that 30 to 50 % of the hospitalized patients are undernourished in various degrees. This prevalence didn't change since 15-20 years The fact is that the present undernutrition in the admission deteriorates during the hospitalization. Besides, the cerebral vascular accident (AVC) complicates the first days, in at least 50 % of the cases, the disorders of the gulp, which are a risk factor of acquired undernutrition. The nutrition holds an important place in the therapeutic coverage of the AVC. Nevertheless, the link between the undernutrition the entrance and the evolution of the AVC is at the moment only little known. The purpose is to study the impact of the undernutrition in the entrance to the hospital (undernutrition previous to the AVC), on the gravity and the evolution

Bhaktapur Maternal and Child Micronutrient Study

MalnutritionInfant1 more

Between February 2008 and February 2009, 500 infant-mother pairs in Bhaktapur, Nepal were randomly selected in this nutritional survey. The dietary intake, nutritional status of several nutrients, growth, and breastfeeding habits were measured in both the women and their infants. The objective of this first phase was to estimate the intake and status of several nutrients in relation to breastfeeding. These mother-child pairs were revisited around the child's fifth birthday when growth, diet, and neurodevelopment was measured. The objective of this phase was to create a cohort study where factors in infancy could be related with health outcomes and development 5 years later.

Representations of Oral Nutritional Supplementation (ONS) in Hospitals : Gender differences_observational...

MalnutritionOral Nutritional Supplementation

Over 30% of hospitalized patients are malnourished. These figures range from 20% to 60% in geriatric units. Undernutrition results either from a decrease in energy intake, an increase in needs, an increase in losses or a combination of these three causes. As a factor in mortality, morbidity and lengthening the time of hospital stays, undernutrition induces health costs 45 to 102% higher than a person who is not undernourished. The nutritional management of patients initially includes hygieno-dietary advice, then the implementation of an oral nutritional supplementation (ONS). A recent study conducted by our teams highlighted the low ONS consumption among women compared to men (39.48% vs 73.41%). Interviews with patients showed that 13 out of 17 had a negative opinion of ONS. The aim of this study is to show, on a larger scale, whether ONS consumption differs according to sex and if so, to highlight the obstacles to this consumption through the implementation of semi-directive interviews with patients. Ultimately, this research will lead to the implementation of alternative strategies to improve ONS consumption and to a better understanding of the obstacles to ONS consumption.
