Evaluation of Clear Aligner Trays to Straighten Teeth
MalocclusionThe objective of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of Clear Aligners to correct tooth malocclusions with the use of attachments and/or buttons, as determined by the amount of teeth movement and overall achievement goals of the treatment plan.
Mandibular Response After Maxillary Orthopedic Expansion in Class II Growing Subjects
MalocclusionAngle Class II1 morethe effectiveness of RME (Rapid Maxillary Expander) on the sagittal dental or skeletal parameters is still controversial because very little has been written regarding the behavior of antero-posterior mandibular changes in Class II growing subjects who underwent RME as the phase 1 treatment intervention. The reported significant occlusal improvement could be attributed to other reasons, ie, skeletal growth or the use of additional appliances during transition from mixed to permanent dentition. Moreover, the majority of the studies show some limits: they are not randomized, they are not prospective, and they have no control group or they use patients from growth studies as a source for the control group. The primary objective of the present investigation was to conduct a pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT) evaluating the changes in the antero-posterior mandibular position induced by bonded or banded RMEs compared with an untreated Class II control group
The Use of Corticotomy for Upper Incisors Retraction
Class II Division 1 MalocclusionWe aim to assess the treatment outcomes following upper incisors retraction accelerated by corticotomy procedure. So, we intend to randomize orthodontic patients with class II division I malocclusion into two groups: experimental group and control group. Both groups will start orthodontic treatment. Once a 0.019*0.025-inch stainless steel wire is fully engaged to the brackets, 1st premolars will be extracted. Canines will be retracted in the conventional manner. Then, the actual evaluation period starts when the upper incisors are retracted using two different methods.
Effectiveness of Rapid and Slow Maxillary Expansion in Treating Posterior Crossbite
Posterior CrossbiteThis study will evaluate the efficacy of rapid maxillary expansion (RME) and slow maxillary expansion (SME) in treating posterior crossbite using cone beam computed tomography. The study sample will consist of 32 patients who suffer from a skeletal posterior crossbite. The sample will be allocated randomly into two groups: RME group and SME group. The skeletal and dento-alveolar changes occurring after treatment will be assessed by using cone beam computed tomography(CBCT) radiographs.
Dentoskeletal Effects of the Expander With Differential Opening and the Fan-type Expander
MalocclusionCrossbite (Posterior)This study will assess the dentoskeletal effects of two types of maxillary expanders in orthodontic patients in the mixed dentition, from 7 to 11 years old. Half of participants will be treated using the expander with differential opening, while the other half will undergo rapid maxillary expansion using the fan-type expander. The null hypothesis is that there is no difference between dentoskeletal effects of the two protocols.
Analysis of Orthodontic Tooth Movement Using 3D Imaging
Tooth CrowdingDental Crowding1 morePurpose: This project aims to study the effects of wire dimension and ligation method (bracket type) on the first stage of orthodontic treatment using 3D imaging. Participants: Up to 80 patients at UNC School of Dentistry or Selden Orthodontics between the ages of 10 and 45, inclusive, who have been previously diagnosed with malocclusion requiring orthodontic treatment (braces) and are otherwise healthy. Procedures (methods): Subjects receiving standard of care (SOC) orthodontic treatment will be randomized to one of two commonly used orthodontic archwires (.014" or .016" diameter). Subjects will be further subdivided for analysis based on the type of bracket (twin or self-ligating) that their clinician uses in their treatment. We will review the 3D digital images of each subject's dentition recorded as part of SOC at the 0-, 6- and 12-week visits. We will retrieve the archwires when they are removed per SOC by the clinician at the 12-week time point.
Efficacy of Biological Technique in Upper Canine Retraction and Levels of Discomfort
MalocclusionAngle Class II1 moreTwenty patients need therapeutic extraction of the maxillary first premolars with subsequent retraction of the maxillary canines, will be divided randomly into two groups, and will randomly assigned to one side of the maxillary arch at the first premolar region , and the other side served as the control. canine retraction will be initiated after completion of the leveling and alignment phase via closed nickel-titanium coil springs applying 150 g of force per side , soldered transpalatal arch will be used as an anchor unit. Pre- and post distalization dental casts will be evaluated to study rate of canine distalization, over a follow-up period until a Class I canine relationship will be achieved. The levels of Pain and discomfort will be monitored using a questionnaire with a VAS scale administered three times during the first day after prf injection.
Effect of Low-Intensity Pulsed Ultrasound on Functional Treatment of Class II Malocclusion
MalocclusionAngle Class IIThis experimental study will evaluate the effect of combined treatment with low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) and functional appliances (twin-block) on the correction of class II malocclusion, compared with the control group treated with functional appliances (twin-block) only. The study sample will consist of 40 patients with class II malocclusion. The sample will be allocated randomly into two groups: control group and experimental group. The functional appliance (twin-block) will be applied for all patients, while the low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) will be applied for the experimental group only. The skeleto-dental changes occurring after functional treatment will be assessed using cephalometric radiographs; pre and post- treatment changes for each group will be evaluated individually, and the two groups will be compared.
Measuring Rate of Anteriors Retraction With Two Different Techniques
Class II Division 1 MalocclusionFew studies had investigated the effectiveness of segmental retraction. As a result of that, this study was concerned about comparing retraction rate of maxillary incisors between buccal and palatal mini-implant supported retraction groups in Class II division 1 non growing patients for 3 months interval.
Effect of Bilateral Distalization of Upper First Molars in a Group of Patients After Extraction...
Class II MalocclusionThere is a scarcity in the current literature regarding such appliance and its effect on distalizing the first maxillary molar in absence of the second molar. Therefore, this study was made to evaluate the effect of bilateral distalization of upper first molars in a group of patients after extraction of maxillary second Molars using infra zygomatic mini implants.
