Assessing Effectiveness and Implementation of an EHR Tool to Assess Heart Health Among Survivors...

Breast NeoplasmProstatic Neoplasm4 more

The objective of this hybrid effectiveness-implementation study is to examine the effects of an EHR-based cardiovascular health assessment tool (AH-HA) among breast, prostate, colorectal, endometrial, and Hodgkin and non-Hodgkin lymphoma cancer survivors (N=600) receiving survivorship care in community oncology practices, using a group-randomized trial design (6 intervention practices and 6 usual care practices). Our central hypothesis is that the AH-HA tool will increase (1) cardiovascular health (CVH) discussions among survivors and oncology providers, (2) referrals and visits to primary care and cardiology (care coordination), and (3) cardiovascular (CV) risk reduction and health promotion activities compared to usual care.

Diet Restriction and Exercise-induced Adaptations in Metastatic Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer

Fifty patients with metastatic breast cancer will be randomly assigned to an acute intervention consisting of both aerobic exercise and caloric restriction administered acutely prior to each of six chemotherapy cycles, or to usual care. The aerobic exercise intervention will consist of a single supervised recumbent cycle ergometer session performed concurrent to each chemotherapy infusion. The diet intervention consists of provision of meals freshly prepared in a metabolic kitchen with caloric content equivalent to 50% of measured energy requirements and low carbohydrate content for 48-72 hours prior to each chemotherapy infusion. Tumor outcomes will be assessed via CT scan (tumor size) and MRI (novel marker of tumor regression), while treatment side effects will be assessed by MRI and treatment symptoms and quality of life will be assessed via questionnaire before, during and after up to six chemotherapy cycles of a consistent treatment protocol. Progression-free and overall survival will be tracked for two years after diagnosis.

Breathwork App for Cancer Survivors

Breast Cancer

Cancer survivorship is associated with many long-term chronic health issues that arise as a result of cancer treatment protocols. Non-pharmacological lifestyle and mind-body interventions have been shown to be effective and critical components of a total-health strategy for cancer survivors. PranaScience Institute seeks to develop and test a novel group video app for home-based delivery of a Yogic Breathing intervention that reduces symptoms of cancer treatment survival and supports total-health.

Tango for Neuropathy Among Breast Cancer Survivors

CancerBreast1 more

Group dance classes have been found to improve markers of quality of life and physical health (i.e., balance) among some populations engaged in rehabilitation, such as the elderly and individuals with Parkinson Disease. However, such interventions have yet to be studied among cancer survivors despite the relevance of quality of life and physical health within cancer survivorship. Group dance classes are a promising avenue in that they deliver activity-based medicine in a social context, thus potentially improving physical as well as psychosocial aspects of health. To further this avenue of inquiry, we propose to study the effect of dance-based interventions for cancer survivors.

A Research Study for Latina Women With Breast Cancer

CancerBreast5 more

The purpose of this study is to examine the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of a psychosocial eHealth intervention designed to improve hormone therapy adherence among Hispanic/Latinx women with breast cancer. Our proposed secondary outcomes are health-related quality of life and self-efficacy in managing hormone therapy side effects. The intervention components include breast cancer knowledge, hormone/endocrine therapy knowledge, stress awareness and management, social support, and enhanced communication and intimacy skills. The intervention will be delivered via a Smartphone application over a 12-week period. All participants will receive the intervention application (described below). Aside from using the Smartphone application for the recommended 12 weeks, participation in this study includes three assessments: baseline (at the beginning of the research study), 6-week follow-up, and 12-week follow-up.

Supervised Aerobic Training During or After Chemotherapy for Operable Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer

The purpose of this study is to compare the effects of aerobic exercise training during and after chemotherapy for women who have recently been diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer. The participant will be instructed to self-report the session information to ExOnc staff at or before their next scheduled visit. If the participant's next scheduled visit is greater than 72 hours following an unsupervised session, ExOnc staff may reach out to the participant to retrieve the session information. Unsupervised session details will be source documented by ExOnc staff.

Culturally-Informed Counseling in Latinas at High Risk for Hereditary Breast or Ovarian Cancer

No Evidence of DiseaseBRCA1 Syndrome3 more

This pilot clinical trial studies a culturally-informed counseling intervention in Latinas at high risk for hereditary breast or ovarian cancer. A culturally-informed counseling intervention may be an effective method to help people learn more about their cancer risk.

Rehabilitation of Cognitive Changes in Breast Cancer Survivors

Breast Cancer

The purpose of this study is to test a memory training program for breast cancer survivors who have problems with memory after receiving chemotherapy. Since breast cancer survivors have been reported to have trouble with their memory, a program to help these problems is important. Studies have shown that a 5-week software training program improved memory in pediatric cancer survivors and other disorders like stroke, but it has not been tested for breast cancer survivors. This study will see if breast cancer survivors can improve their memory and attention problems by using either one of two software versions of the program. One version is called Cogmed Working Memory Training, and the other is a comparison version of the software that has the same exercises but is less difficult. People who decide to participate in the study will be randomly given one of the two versions.

Relaxation for Women With Breast Cancer Undergoing Radiotherapy

Breast Cancer

The goal of this behavioral research study is to compare two different forms of relaxation programs that will include stretching and relaxation techniques, in order to learn if and how well they may help to improve physical and emotional well-being. This will be tested in patients with breast cancer who are receiving radiation therapy. For comparison purposes, there will also be a group of participants that does not take part in the relaxation programs. This is an investigational study. The relaxation programs are being compared for research purposes only. An "assessment" is any time you complete a set of scheduled activities for this study, such as tests and questionnaires. Up to 700 patients will take part in this study. All will be enrolled at MD Anderson.

Hypofractionated Radiation Therapy After Mastectomy in Preventing Recurrence in Patients With Stage...

Ductal Breast CarcinomaInvasive Breast Carcinoma7 more

This randomized phase III trial studies how well hypofractionated radiation therapy works in preventing recurrence in patients with stage IIa-IIIa cancer who have undergone mastectomy. Hypofractionated radiation therapy delivers higher doses of radiation therapy over a shorter period of time and may kill more tumor cells that remain after surgery and have fewer side effects.
