Well Being And Resilience: Mechanisms of Transmission of Health and Risk

Psychotic DisorderBipolar Disorder1 more

The purpose of this study is to establish a cohort of pregnant women with severe mental disorder and to identify biological and psycho-social transmission mechanisms involved in the development of 'risk' and 'resilience' in the offspring. It is assumed that both 'resilient' and 'risk' development in offspring are caused by a complex interaction between multiple biological, psychological and social factors. The project focuses specifically on exploring the impact of physiological stress-sensitivity, attachment, care-giving and the familial and social context for care-giving. Previous studies support these factors as important for the development of these infants, but systematic research using a prospective design is needed to strengthen evidence and elucidate the importance of these factors in more detail. The interaction over time of physiological stress-sensitivity, attachment, care-giving and the familial and social context for care-giving are evaluated in terms of the evolution of very early indicators of developmental risk and resilience in infants with a known highly increased risk for developing a mental disorder. The findings of the study may potentially lead to more specific targets for preventive interventions, which can improve developmental outcome for these infants.

Study of Degenerescence CSF Hallmarks in Older Bipolar Patients

Bipolar DisorderAlzheimer's Disease

Analysis of 4 CSF Alzheimer's disease biomarkers (total and phosphorylated tau protein, Aß40 and Aß1-42) and morphological brain MRI in older patients (>60 year's old) with bipolar disorder, after an evaluation of their cognitive functions. Comparison between two groups of patients : patients with cognitive disorders and patients without cognitive disorders. The objective is to describe and compare the profile of those biomarkers in those two populations.

An Observational Drug Utilization Study of Asenapine in the United Kingdom (P08308)

Bipolar Disorder

This study is designed to describe asenapine prescribing patterns in the United Kingdom (UK) during the post-approval period under conditions of usual practice. The use of asenapine in Bipolar Disorder and other indications will be described. To provide epidemiological and clinical perspective, use of aripiprazole and other comparator drugs will be described.

Perspectives of Individuals With Bipolar Disorder and Siblings of Individuals With Bipolar Disorder;...

Bipolar Disorder (BD)Bipolar

This study will examine those who will seek and those who are most likely to benefit from genetic counseling for psychiatric disorders. It will identify themes related to perceived risks, benefits, and possible motivations for seeking genetic counseling among families affected by bipolar disorder. It will then use those themes to generate a starting point for a framework to guide further research and to improve genetics services as they are currently practiced. Adults with bipolar disorder and the adult siblings of people with bipolar disorder are eligible for this study. In a 60- to 90-minute telephone interview, participants are asked questions related to their thoughts about the causes of bipolar disorder, their experiences with the illness, their concerns about the disorder occurring again in their families, and their feelings about the value of discussing these issues with health care professionals. They also are asked questions about the mental health of their close family members and their own mental health.

The Treatment of Children and Adolescents With Treatment-Resistant Depression

Bipolar Disorder

This study seeks to learn about brain function in adolescents with depression and to determine whether adding lithium carbonate to antidepressant medication can reduce depression in children and adolescents. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) and magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) will examine brain chemistry and function.

Mental Time Travel and Identity in Bipolar Disorder Patients

Bipolar Disorder

Self-defining memories (SDMs) are memories that are still important today to understand who the investigators are and participate to the maintain of personal identity. SDMs are also linked to our capacity to project ourselves into the future. In bipolar disorder, life events play an important role in the course and outcome of the disease. the study is the first to investigate SDMs and self-defining future projections in a population of remitted patients with bipolar disorder.

Characterization of Emotional Processing of Information in Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenic Patients...

SchizophreniaBipolar Disorder

In the case of psychotic disorders such as bipolar disorder or schizophrenia, attention dysfunction contribute, according to the theories of neuroscience, the development of mood disorders following disturbances in the interaction-care emotion. In this context, the general objective of this research project is to refine our understanding of the similarities and distinctions between bipolar and schizophrenic patients in the basic emotional information processing. Specifically, these are: 1) to better understand what level of basic emotional information processing both conditions differ or are comparable and in what sense and 2) estimate, in both pathologies, the specific influence of the nature of the task of processing emotional information. To answer these questions, the investigators have developed a protocol to specifically target different information processing channels playing on the nature of the spatial frequency content of emotional natural scenes. To estimate in both pathologies, the specific influence of the nature of the task on emotional processing, 3 types of tasks are proposed: 1) a simple task perception and 2) -3) two tasks whose categorization one focused on the emotional feelings of the individual and the other on the tendency to action. Both tasks categorization should involve more specifically the ventromedial prefrontal cortex (CPFVM) and the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) respectively. All patient data will be compared with data from healthy control participants.

BIPLONG - The Bipolar Disorder in the Longitudinal Course

Bipolar Disorder

The BIPLONG (The Bipolar Disorder in the Longitudinal Course ) study is a longitudinal study on the course of bipolar disorders and comprises two sub-studies: On the one hand, BIPLONG examines the genetic foundation and change in bipolar disorder, on the other hand, metabolic changes, clinical symptoms and cognition in bipolar disorders is evaluated. A current subproject of BIPLONG is the analysis of the psychological response of the COVID-19 (Corona virus disease) pandemic. With the parameters examined in BIPLONG, it is hoped to gain better understanding of the bipolar disorder in the longitudinal course.
