This study will compare the benefits and side effects of lithium and divalproex in the treatment of older adults with bipolar mania.

The purpose of the study is to assess the effectiveness and safety of risperidone (an antipsychotic medication) compared with placebo after 3 weeks of treatment in patients with bipolar disorder who are experiencing manic episodes. A secondary purpose of the study is to assess the maintenance of risperidone effectiveness versus haloperidol (an antipsychotic medication) after 12 weeks of treatment.

The purpose of this research study is to compare the efficacy of aripiprazole with placebo in combination with lithium or valproate monotherapy, in the treatment of bipolar I patients with manic or mixed episodes.

To assess the safety and efficacy of long-term administration of aripiprazole by performing extended administration of aripiprazole in combination with mood stabilizer (lithium or valproate) in an unblinded manner to those patients who completed the preceding multicenter, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel group-comparison trial of aripiprazole in patients with bipolar disorder experiencing a manic or mixed episode (Study 031-06-003, hereafter "Study 003") but whose condition worsened or remained unchanged or who discontinued Study 003 between Day 14 and Day 21 due to lack of drug efficacy.

The purpose of this research study is to learn whether or not a coordinated medical and psychiatric care program can improve outcomes of care for patients with bipolar disorder. We hypothesize that coordinated care via a Care Manager will improve physical and mental health-related quality of life, improve functioning, and reduce symptoms.

This is a study that, in the first 16 weeks, investigates whether lamotrigine versus placebo offers effect on depressive episodes for patients with bipolar disorder (also known as manic depressive disorder) who use lithium. In the following 50 weeks it is investigated whether these patients experience effect on their depressive and/ or (hypo)manic episodes.

The primary objective of this study is to examine the efficacy of topiramate in combination with olanzapine for the prevention of weight gain in youth with bipolar disorder. The secondary objective is to examine the tolerability of topiramate in combination with olanzapine for the prevention of weight gain in youth with bipolar disorder.
