Meningococcal DiseasePregnancy2 moreThe GlaxoSmithKline's Meningococcal quadrivalent CRM-197 conjugate vaccine pregnancy registry is established to meet a post marketing commitment agreed upon with CBER to prospectively collect data on pregnancy exposures to Meningococcal quadrivalent CRM-197 conjugate vaccine. It is an observational study of women inadvertently immunized with the Meningococcal quadrivalent CRM-197 conjugate vaccine within 28 days prior to conception or at any time during pregnancy as part of routine care. The objective of the pregnancy registry is to evaluate pregnancy outcomes among women immunized with the Meningococcal quadrivalent CRM-197 conjugate vaccine within 28 days prior to conception or at any time during pregnancy. The primary outcomes of interest include major congenital malformation, preterm birth, and low birth weight. Other pregnancy outcomes will be collected, including spontaneous abortions and stillbirths.

Correlation Between Cytokines and the Severity of Meningococcal Disease
MeningococcemiaObjectives: Meningococcal disease (MD) is a complex catastrophic phenomenon that can converge rapidly to irreversible septic shock, myocardial dysfunction, and profound coagulopathy. During meningococcal sepsis and meningitis, a myriad of cells release cytokines within the intravascular environment and subarachnoid space. Cytokines are key molecular messengers that play key roles in orchestrating and mediating the metabolic, endocrine and coagulation responses to meningococcal infection. The aim of the present study is to determine the profile of different cytokines in serum and cerebrospinal fluid during MD, as well as relate the level of these cytokines to severity of MD. Design: Prospective, nonrandomized study. Setting: Tertiary referral intensive care unit. Patients: Children and adults admitted with a clinical diagnosis of MD. Interventions: Blood and cerebrospinal fluid will sample from children and adults with MD.

Host-pathogen Interactions in Meningococcal Disease: Finding the Key That Fits the Lock
MeningitisAt any time, around 10% of people carry meningococcal bacteria in the nose and throat, which can cause meningitis, blood poisoning and other serious illnesses. Most people carry these bacteria and never become ill, yet a very small proportion go on to develop these illnesses which can result in life long disabilities or death. The mechanism by which this happens is poorly understood and has been studied in various ways, usually focussing on the bacteria or on the individual, but none has given a definitive answer. This study will be the first of its kind and will assess the interaction between the host and the bacteria at the genetic level, through genetic mapping, helping us to understand what makes some people susceptible to this infection.
Propositive (Protecting Positive People From Meningococcal Infection) Follow-up Study
HIV/AIDSMeningococcal DiseaseThe need for and timing of booster doses of meningococcal vaccines in People Living with HIV (PLWHIV) is currently unknown. As such it is impossible for clinicians to recommend booster doses or to know if and when these might be necessary.We propose to follow up a group of participants from the Propositive study who received two doses of both MenB (Bexsero) and MenACWY (Menveo). This was a group of PLWHIV between the ages 18-45 years. We propose following up these participants at 18 and 30 months post completion of two doses of vaccine and investigating their immunological response.
