Cognitive Phenotyping of Severe Psychiatric Disorders (PSYCOG)
Severe Psychiatric DisordersThe identification of transnosographic dimensions constituted by cognitive disorders constitutes a particularly promising avenue for classifying psychiatric disorders in a more precise and personalized manner. However, despite interesting preliminary data, there is no exhaustive phenotyping of the different cognitive disorders in large samples where all severe psychiatric disorders are represented. Moreover, the brain mechanisms underlying cognitive disorders remain poorly understood, whereas their identification would allow a better understanding of the pathophysiology of these disorders as well as the identification of potential therapeutic targets. Here, the investigators will compare cognitive-behavioral performance in patients with different types of severe psychiatric disorders (psychotic disorders, depressive disorders, bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, autism spectrum disorders and eating disorders) and healthy volunteers to identify specific and shared cognitive alterations between the different severe psychiatric disorders. In addition, the investigators will compare neurophysiological cognitive data in to identify alterations in neurophysiological cognitive mechanisms that are specific to and shared between the different severe psychiatric disorders. The investigators will include 180 patients suffering from a severe psychiatric disorder (psychotic disorder, mood disorder (depressive and bipolar disorders), anxiety disorder, autism spectrum disorder and eating disorder) and benefiting from cognitive phenotyping (neuropsychological assessment and possibly EEG) as part of the initial assessment for a severe psychiatric disorder. In parallel, the investigators will include 180 healthy volunteers The different variables corresponding to the judgment criteria will be compared between the groups by being included as dependent variables in mixed linear regression models (ANOVA; or KRUSKAL-WALLIS if non-parametric) with the group as independent factor, time (before, after treatment) and type of treatment. This study will allow the constitution of a transnosographic atlas of neuro-cognitive deficits in different psychiatric pathologies.
Mental Health and Sexuality in Adolescents and Young Adults
Psychiatric DisorderAdolescent Behavior1 moreAccording to the World Health Organization (WHO), "Sexual health is a state of physical, emotional, mental and social well-being in relation to sexuality, not merely the absence of disease, dysfunction or of infirmity. Sexual health requires a positive and respectful approach to sexuality and sexual relationships [...]". The main objective is to show that a training intervention intended for psychiatric care teams and targeted on the question of the impact of psychiatric disorders and psychotropic drugs on the sexuality of young people, increases the proportion of young people with whom the question of sexual health is discussed (in connection with psychiatric disorders and, if applicable, with the taking of psychotropic treatment, while they are hospitalized for a psychiatric disorder in the clinics of the FSEF and receive, or not, psychotropic treatment ).
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy for Psychotic Inpatients
Acute PsychosisThe overarching aim of the research project is to investigate whether Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT) is an efficacious psychotherapeutic method of treatment for inpatients suffering from acute psychosis. The method will be applied in two ways. Firstly, as an individual treatment for patients. Secondly, as an integrated part of the daily work on an inpatient ward, administered by nurses and assistant nurses trained in the method.
The Effect of Qigong Relaxation Exercise Applied in the Psychiatry Clinic on the Anxiety and Aggression...
Psychiatric DisorderThe aim of the study, which aimed to examine the effect of the Qigong relaxation exercise applied in psychiatry clinics on the level of anxiety, was planned as randomized controlled. Individuals will be divided into intervention and control groups. Before the application, the Personal Information Form and STAI Form I scale will be applied to the patients in the Intervention and Control group. Patients in the intervention group are expected to answer the STAI Form I scale after qigong relaxation exercises. It planned to apply the same forms as planned in the intervention group without any application in the control group. Personal Information Form and STAI Form I Scale will be filled by the patients in the form of self-report.
Sensory Room at an Acute Psychiatric Unit
Psychiatric Disorderthe aim of the presented study is to explore the effectiveness of a sensory room in reducing seclusion, restraint and aggression at an acute psychiatric ward.
Pre-Implementation Enhancement Strategy To Improve Teachers' Intention to Implement Evidence-Based...
Child Behavior DisordersImplementation Science2 moreBackground: As the most common setting where youth access behavioral health services, the education sector frequently employs training and follow-up consultation as cornerstone implementation strategies to promote the uptake and use of evidence-based practices (EBPs), which are often insufficient to produce desired implementation outcomes (e.g., intervention fidelity) and changes in youth behavioral health outcomes (e.g., reduced externalizing behaviors). There is a need for theoretically-informed pre-implementation enhancement strategies (PIES) that increase the yield of training and follow-up consultation. Specifically, social-cognitive theory explicates principles to inform the design of strategy content and specific mechanisms of behavior change, such as intentions to implement (ITI), to target via a PIES that increase provider to more active implementation strategies. Methods: This triple-blind randomized controlled trial preliminarily examined the efficacy of a pragmatic PIES (SC-PIES) to improve the implementation of universal EBPs in the education sector. Participants were randomly assigned to the treatment (PIES) or active control condition (meeting with administrators). The investigators assessed participants' ITI, intervention fidelity, and youth behavioral health outcome before, immediately after, and six-week following treatment.
Effects of Internet-based Storytelling Programs in Reducing Mental Illness Stigma With Mediation...
COMBO ConditionSTIGMA Condition2 moreMental illness stigma has been a concerning issue globally due to its adverse effects on the recovery of people with mental illness and may delay help-seeking for mental health out of the concern of being stigmatized. With technological advancement, Internet-based mental health stigma reduction interventions have been developed to combat mental illness stigma and the effects have been promising. The present study aimed to examine the differential effects of Internet-based storytelling programs varied on level of interactivity and stigma content in reducing mental illness stigma. In the present study, the investigator hypothesized that an Internet-based storytelling program with a combination of interactivity and stigma content would lead to the most significant reduction in public stigma, microaggression, and social distance from people with mental illnesses, followed by Internet-based storytelling program with stigma content-only and interactivity-only, compared with control. Secondly, the investigator hypothesized that the effects observed in stigma reduction would be mediated by perceived autonomy and immersiveness due to the presence of interactivity.
Assessing and Addressing Behaviors in Children With Hearing Loss
Hearing LossAttention Deficit and Disruptive Behavior Disorders1 morePurpose: This study is a feasibility trial of an existing evidence-based behavioral parent training program with parents of preschool-aged children who were born deaf or hard of hearing (DHH). The hypotheses of this study are (a) that a randomized control trial of the Family Check Up with this population will be feasible, (b) parents will rate the intervention as acceptable, and (c) a signal of effect will be observable among intervention group parents compared to controls for the following outcome variables: child behaviors, parenting behaviors, and parenting sense of competence.
Multidisciplinary Lifestyle-enhancing Treatment for People With Severe Mental Illness in Sheltered...
LifestyleMental Disorders1 moreIntroduction and rationale: Unhealthy eating habits and lack of physical activity are risk factors for many diseases (including metabolic syndrome) and contribute to a shortened lifespan of 15-30 years in people with severe mental illness (SMI). Literature, mainly including short-term hospitalized or outpatients, show strong positive effects of activation on both physical and mental health. However, studies in long-term care are limited. In recent years, implementation of a lifestyle enhancing treatment intervention in clinical settings in "GGz Centraal" has demonstrated to be effective. The question is whether this kind of lifestyle intervention in sheltered housing is applicable and effective. Objectives: This research aims to develop an appropriate lifestyle intervention for patients living in sheltered housing services of GGz Centraal, based on input of patients and directly involved. Does applying this lifestyle treatment result in a positive effect in health and quality of life of patients and what is the influence of contextual factors, personal- and disease characteristics? Study design: In this intervention study, we use an experimental design. Municipal locations are paired based on the number of participants to generate equal cluster sizes. These paired clusters are randomly allocated to the control or intervention arm by means of a random number generator by an independent person (not involved in this project). At the start of the lifestyle treatment patients in the experimental and control group are invited to participate in the baseline screening. After twelve months, following a post-test on all outcome measures. Treatment intervention: The intervention in this study consists of formulating a lifestyle intervention, by patients and directly involved, aimed at enhancing a more active and healthier lifestyle . After formulation of the plan (based on psycho education, nutrition and physical activity), it wil be executed for a twelve month period. Hypothesis: Hypotheses is that lifestyle enhancing treatment is associated with improved metabolic health, quality of life and reduced use of medication. Furthermore we expect that movement disorders and disease severity will be negative related in becoming more active.
Evaluating the Impact of a Community Health Worker Program in Neno, Malawi
HIV/AIDSHypertension8 moreThis protocol concerns the implementation and evaluation of an intervention designed to realign the existing cadre of Community Health Workers (CHW) in Neno District, Malawi to better support the care needs of the clients they serve. The proposed intervention is a 'Household Model' where CHWs will be assigned to households, rather than HIV or TB specific patients, and will be trained to provide support for a wider range of conditions including HIV, hypertension, diabetes, and pediatric malnutrition. The new model is designed to improve retention in care for clients with chronic, non-communicable diseases, along with increased uptake of women's health services and treatment for pediatric malnutrition, while sustaining the high retention rates for clients in the HIV program. Eleven sites (health centres and hospitals) were arranged into six clusters by estimated size of the catchment area populations, with a population range of 11,680 to 26,260 and an average population of 20,400. The order in which the intervention will be rolled out across the sites will be randomized so that the intervention can be evaluated in a stepped-wedge cluster randomized controlled trial. These clusters were grouped based mostly on geographic location but also on catchment area sizes, in order to maximize feasibility of training for the CHW team and not overload CHW training sessions with too many trainees.
