Background: In mainland China, the development of pediatric liver transplantation (LT) has lagged behind that of adult LT during the past two decades, but it has been progressing immensely in recent years. Renji hospital(shanghai) is currently the largest pediatric transplant center in mainland China. Aim and method: This study is performed for establishment of key techniques for pediatric LT in mainland China, including the indications and timing for pediatric LT, the criteria for donor selections, living donor LT planning, prevention and treatment for posttransplant complications, long-term follow-up management et al.

Human Brown Adipose Tissue and Mitochondrial Respiration

This study is focused on measuring mitochondrial activity of human brown adipose tissue. During surgery, adipose tissue biopsies from white and brown adipose tissue will be collected from the deep neck area. These biopsies will be used to examine mitochondrial function via histological analysis, biochemical analysis and in vitro experiments based on precursor cells present in the biopsies.

Diagnosis of Osteogenesis Imperfecta in Children

The study will be conducted at Assiut university children hospital and it will include patients with history of repeated fractures due to mild or irrelevant trauma. Diagnosis will be established by biochemical tests, bone survey to exclude secondary causes followed by Dual Energy absorbiometry scan to detect bone density of selected cases then confirm our diagnosis by detection of gene mutations of Osteogenesis imperfecta during one and half year duration with starting zoledronic acid therapy during this duration.
