Metabolic Syndrome in Children and Adolescents
ChildrenCardiovascular1 moreThe purpose of this study was to cross-sectionally evaluate nutritional status and the metabolic syndrome in a sample of school-age children 10-15 years of age from 20 public schools in Santiago, Chile. In addition, the investigators retrospectively assessed the association of those variables with perinatal variables (birth weight, birth length, and gestational age at delivery).
CCK1R Function in Patient Leukocytes
ObesityDiabetes Mellitus2 moreThe type 1 cholecystokinin receptor (CCK1R) is a potential target for the treatment of obesity, due to the ability of this GI hormone to elicit satiety. However, this receptor has been shown to be sensitive to the cholesterol content of the membrane in which it is expressed. Because some patients who might be candidates for the use of CCK agonists to treat their obesity and co-morbidities, the goal of this study is to determine how metabolic abnormalities might affect the responsiveness of this receptor to CCK. Because the normal site mediating CCK-stimulated satiety is on vagal afferent neurons that cannot easily be studied, we will collect buffy coat cells from a peripheral blood sample from patients involved in the Sangre Por Salud Biobank at Mountain Park Medical Center. Ex vivo, the CCK1R will be expressed on these cells and will be functionally characterized, and the cholesterol content of the cells will be assayed. These data will be correlated with the clinical, biochemical, and metabolic phenotypic data collected as part of the parent study.
Changes in the Hypotalamic-pituitary Region of Patients With Metabolic Syndrome and Obesity
Overweight and ObesityMetabolic SyndromeThis study aims to identify new morphological and quantitative magnetic imaging parameters of pituitary gland and sellar region in overweight and obese patient at baseline and after 3 years, dividing patients in 3 groups (weight loss through diet and lifestyle changes, weight loss through bariatric surgery, no weight loss)
Genetic Counseling and Lifestyle Change for Diabetes Prevention
Pre-diabetesOverweight1 moreThis study will examine the impact diabetes genetic counseling on patient motivation and disease prevention behaviors among subjects with pre-diabetes. Intervention subjects will be provided with their individual diabetes genotype risk score derived from aggregating the combined results of 37 diabetes risk-associated genetic loci. Controls will not be tested. All subjects will be enrolled in a 12-week diabetes prevention program.
Body Composition, Bone Mineral Density, Insulin Sensitivity and Echocardiographic Measurements in...
Klinefelter SyndromeDiabetes3 moreKlinefelter syndrome (KS) is the most common sex-chromosome disorder with a prevalence of one in 660 men and is a frequent cause of hypogonadism and infertility. It is caused by the presence of extra X-chromosomes, the most common karyotype being 47,XXY. The phenotype is variable, but the most constant finding is small hyalinized testes, hypergonadotrophic hypogonadism, infertility, eunuchoid body proportion, increased height and learning disabilities. Klinefelter syndrome has been associated with increased prevalence of diabetes, osteoporosis and cardiovascular diseases but the pathogenesis is unknown. Accordingly the aim of the study was to investigate measures of body composition, insulin sensitivity, bone mineral density, echocardiography, as well as biochemical markers of endocrine, metabolic and bone function in KS and an age-matched control group.

Metabolic Syndrome as Prognostic Factor for Outcome of Sever SARS-COV-2 Cases.
COVID-19SARS-COV-2 crisis is a severe public health concern in the world. It is now well recognized that older age, diabetes mellitus, obesity (BMI > 30 kg/m2), and hypertension increase the risk of complications and death in SARS-COV-2 patients. This study will describe the spectrum of clinical features, the likely pathophysiologic mechanisms, and potential implications for the management of metabolic syndrome in SARS-COV-2 patients.
Blopress Tablets Specified Drug-use Survey "Hypertension: Survey on Patients With Metabolic Syndrome"...
HypertensionThe purpose of this survey is designed to investigate the treatment status of hypertensive patient with metabolic syndrome-related risk factors treated with candesartan cilexetil tablets (Blopress Tablets), as well as to assess relationships between risk factors (example, visceral fat accumulation) and the incidence of cerebrovascular/cardiovascular events in an exploratory manner.
Seum Bile Acid Profile in Type 2 Diabetes and Association Between Bile Cid Profile and Adipokine...
Type 2 DiabetesPrediabetes2 more"The goal of this work is to critically test the hypothesis that there exists a different profile of bile acids (BAs) in patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) compared with normal controls. Through confirmation of different profile of BAs in T2DM, investigator will suggest modulation of specific bile acids as a new possible treatment target in patients with T2DM. Investigator also expect the specific BAs signature will be used to screen T2DM before hyperglycemia. In addition, investigator will evaluate the association between each BA species and serum total glucagon like peptide-1 (GLP-1) or fibroblast growth factor-19 (FGF-19) concentrations to determine if the specific BAs profile is related with total GLP-1 or FGF-19 concentration in serum. Investigatr also evaluates the correlation between each BA species and metabolic profiles and oxidative stress marker to find possible roles of each BA component in glucose metabolism.
