Replacing Refined Carbohydrates With Healthy Fats on Cardio-metabolic Markers

Pre-diabetesMetabolic Syndrome

The primary goal is to to characterize the effects of consuming 1 avocado fruit 7 days / week (5-7 days is acceptable) compared to a no avocado relatively low fat, carbohydrate control treatment over a 12 week period on insulin sensitivity as measured by the Matsuda composite index of insulin sensitivity (MISI).

Cardiovascular Benefits of Acai Polyphenols in Volunteers at Risk of Metabolic Syndrome

Cardiovascular Diseases

The purpose of this study is to carry out a randomized double blind controlled trial in 30 male subjects to investigate the effect of acai consumption on acute changes in vascular function, and to other cardiovascular markers. As a secondary aim the study will allow us to characterize the absorption and metabolism of acai polyphenols in humans over a 24 hour period.

Dairy Fat as a Mediator of Vitamin E Adequacy in Individuals With Metabolic Syndrome

Non-alcoholic Fatty LiverMetabolic Syndrome

This study is conducted to investigate if vitamin E status in healthy individuals and individuals with metabolic syndrome can be improved by dairy fat. The investigators hypothesize that full-fat dairy will substantially increase the bioavailability of alpha-tocopherol, a form of vitamin E. The results of this study will contribute to the application of dairy fat as a simple and effective strategy for improving vitamin E status, which is partly due to poor vitamin E intake. By completing this study, the investigators anticipate developing new dietary recommendations to achieve adequate vitamin E status through the regular consumption of dairy fat paired with foods containing vitamin E.

Impact of Fish Oil Supplementation in 3rd Trimester of Pregnancy on Maternal and Offspring Health...

Preterm DeliveryAtopy1 more

The aim of the trial is to investigate the effect of daily supplementation with 2.7 grams of long chain n-3 fatty acids during the third trimester of pregnancy. In 1990, 533 pregnant women, while they were in gestational week 30, were randomized to fish oil supplements providing the mentioned amount of long chain n-3 fatty acids, olive oil supplements, or no supplements; they were asked to take the supplements until delivery. Health outcomes were assessed during pregnancy and delivery. Further, offspring health and development has been examined during the ensuring two decades by making linkages to the rich Danish health and administrative registries, by asking the offspring to complete web-based questionnaires, and by examining the offspring physically.

Glypican4 and CTRP5 in Metabolic Syndrome and the Effect of Exercise on These Adipokines

Metabolic SyndromeObesity

Glypican4, CTRP3, CTRP5 are emerging novel adipokines mediating obesity and inflammation related disorders. RBP4 and adiponectin are well known important adipokines. Therefore, we examine the circulating levels of theses adipokines in the subjects with or without metabolic syndrome. Furthermore, we tried to clarify the effect of exercise on the circulating these adipokines.

Optimal Timing of Physical Activity in Cancer Treatment

Metabolic SyndromeVascular Disorders2 more

The number of long-term cancer survivors is growing. As a result, treatment-related morbidity - such as cardiovascular disease, metabolic syndrome, functional decline and fatigue - is impacting quality of life and impairing survival. Metabolic syndrome in the general population is currently treated with lifestyle advice to increase physical activity (PA) and reduce caloric intake. This approach is still underused as standard care for cancer survivors. The aim of this study is investigate whether a tailored PA program that starts early (during curative chemotherapy with cardiovascular toxic potential) is superior in terms of reducing long-term cancer-treatment-related metabolic syndrome and cardiovascular morbidity to a program that starts late (after completion of chemotherapy).
