Using FoodFlip© to Improve Food Choices Among Post-secondary Students

Healthy Diet

Canada passed mandatory front-of-package labelling (FOPL) regulations where pre-packaged food and beverage products that are high in sugar, saturated fat, and/or sodium are required to display a 'high-in' front-of-pack nutrition symbol (NS). FOPL is an effective tool to inform consumers about products that can harm health and help guide their purchasing decisions. However, as the regulations are limited to the pre-packaged food supply and do not apply to restaurants and other food services, little is known about the potential impact of the NS in such settings. Therefore, the objective of the present study is to investigate the impact of the Canadian FOPL (i.e. the 'high-in' NS) as delivered through a mobile health (mHealth) app in a setting currently not subject to regulations. The study will take place on a post-secondary campus (University of Toronto) hosting students, a population vulnerable to poor dietary choices, nutritional knowledge, and associated weight gain. A 2-week long, randomized controlled trial with a 3-parallel arm study design will be conducted to explore the effect of the 'high-in' NS on students' purchasing behaviours and nutritional knowledge. Eligible participants will be randomly allocated into one of 3 intervention groups: no App control; App control with no NS; App with NS. Questionnaires will be used to assess nutritional knowledge, and receipts will be used to analyze purchasing behaviour.

Combination Therapy for Cancer Related Fatigue in Patients With Metastatic Cancers

Metastatic CancersFatigue

To find out if combining psychoeducational interventions (such as education, counseling, and self-managed therapies) with an open-label placebo can help to improve your quality of life better than either the psychoeducational interventions or the placebo alone.

Efficacy of a Herbal Formula for Bone Metastases

Bone Metastases

RATIONALE: Nearly 50% of patients with bone metastases develop one or more complications collectively termed skeletal-related events (SREs). The study herbal medicine might reduce the morbidities due to "Skeletal-related events" (SRES), and extend survival time. PURPOSE: the study is to explore the effects of the 4 Herbs Formula on the reduction of "Skeletal-related events" (SRES), and survival time.

Multimodal Prehabilitation During Chemotherapy in Patients With Colorectal Liver Metastases

PrehabilitationNeoadjuvant Therapy1 more

Liver resection is the only curative treatment for patients with colorectal liver metastases (CRLM). Most patients undergo chemotherapy (CT) before liver surgery. CT objectively decreases patient functional capacity. It has already been demonstrated that a structured training program carried out during the 4 weeks following CT, while the patient is waiting for liver resection, is able to return the functional capacity to baseline levels. Despite this, multimodal prehabilitation programs (MPP) during preoperative CT have not been evaluated or implemented. The aim of this study is to investigate whether a 16-week MPP applied during and following CT in CRLM patients will result in a significant increase in physical fitness when compared to those that undergo MPP only during the 4-weeks, between the end of CT and liver resection.

Phase 1b Safety Study of CMB305 in Patients With Locally Advanced, Relapsed, or Metastatic Cancer...

SarcomaMelanoma2 more

This is a Phase 1b, open label, multi-center study of CMB305 (sequentially administered LV305 [a dendritic cell-targeting viral vector expressing the NY-ESO-1 gene] and G305 [NY-ESO-1 recombinant protein plus GLA-SE]) in patients with melanoma, sarcoma, ovarian cancer, or non-small cell lung cancer that express NY-ESO-1.

Pilot Study of Vardenafil and Carboplatin in Patients With Gliomas and Brain Metastases

GliomaBrain Neoplasms1 more

This is a randomized pilot study to investigate the ability of a phosphodiesterase-V inhibitor (vardenafil) to increase the concentration of systemically delivered chemotherapy, carboplatin, in patients with recurrent malignant gliomas or metastatic brain cancer. This study will also determine the toxicity and tolerability of a phosphodiesterase-V inhibitor (vardenafil) in combination with intravenous carboplatin for patients with recurrent malignant gliomas or metastatic brain cancer.

BATs in Patients With Breast Cancer and Leptomeningeal Metastases

Breast Cancer FemaleLeptomeningeal Metastases

This study uses bi-specific antibody (HER2Bi) armed activated T-cells (HER2 BATs) to target breast cancer cells that have metastasized to the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord. This is known as leptomeningeal metastases. Two doses will be evaluated in order to determine a safe dose. Study treatment includes a test dose of HER2 BATs followed by 8 weekly infusions of HER2 BATs at the assigned dose level. Before, during and after study treatment, participants will be monitored objectively by brain MRIs and clinically through physical and neurological exams, and blood and cerebrospinal fluid will be collected to evaluate immune responses.

Afatinib on CNS Metastases and LMD in EGFR Mutation Positive NSCLC

Non-small Cell Lung CancerLeptomeningeal Disease1 more

Brain metastases occurs in up to 50% of patients with EGFR mutant NSCLC. Leptomeningeal disease is a subset of patients with brain metastases for which there remains an unmet need. This trial aims to evaluate the role of two dosing schedules of afatinib in management of leptomeningeal disease in EGFR mutant NSCLC, specifically to determine Central Nervous System (CNS) penetration of afatinib, as well as clinical activity. Patients will start on daily dosing initially followed by pulsed intermittent dosing should we observe no clinical activity. A secondary objective is to identify the resistance spectrum in leptomeningeal disease. It is anticipated that optimal dosing schedule of afatinib e.g. pulsed dosing may improve CNS disease control.

HIPEC and Systemic Chemotherapy in Unresectable Peritoneal Metastases From Colorectal Cancer

Peritoneal Metastases From Colorectal Cancer

The prognosis of patients with unresectable peritoneal metastases from colorectal cancer is poor. These patients may obtain survival benefit from radical colorectal resection and cytoreductive surgery (CRS). The response rates of previous conversion therapy are low. Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemoperfusion (HIPEC) and systemic chemotherapy are effective methods of reducing peritoneal cancer index (PCI) levels. The purpose of this study is to investigate the efficacy and safety of HIPEC and systemic chemotherapy in the conversion therapy of peritoneal metastases from colorectal cancer.

Study of ONCR-177 Alone and in Combination With PD-1 Blockade in Adult Subjects With Advanced and/or...

CancerMelanoma8 more

ONCR-177-101 is a phase 1, open-label, multi-center, dose escalation and expansion study of ONCR-177, an oncolytic Herpes Simplex Virus for intratumoral injection, alone and in combination with PD-1 blockade in adult subjects with advanced and/or refractory cutaneous, subcutaneous or metastatic nodal solid tumors or with Liver Metastases of Solid Tumors. The purpose of this study is to determine the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) and recommended phase 2 dose (RP2D), as well as to evaluate preliminary efficacy.
