Oral HYCAMTIN Plus Whole Brain Radiation Therapy In Treatment Of Brain Metastases Resulting From...

Lung CancerNon-Small Cell

The current prognosis for patients with metastatic brain cancer from NSCLC is very poor. The current standard treatment for this disease is radiation therapy to the brain. The goal of the current study is to test whether the combination of orally administered HYCAMTIN capsules and whole brain radiation therapy will prolong the survival time of patients with this potentially serious condition.

Vorinostat and Idarubicin in Treating Patients With Relapsed or Refractory Leukemia or Myelodysplastic...

Acute Myeloid Leukemia With Multilineage Dysplasia Following Myelodysplastic SyndromeAdult Acute Myeloid Leukemia With 11q23 (MLL) Abnormalities14 more

This randomized phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of vorinostat when given together with idarubicin in treating patients with relapsed or refractory leukemia or myelodysplastic syndromes. Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as vorinostat and idarubicin, work in different ways to stop the growth of cancer cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Vorinostat may also stop the growth of cancer cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Giving vorinostat together with idarubicin may kill more cancer cells.

A Trial of Postoperative Whole Brain Radiation Therapy vs. Salvage Stereotactic Radiosurgery Therapy...

Brain NeoplasmsNeoplasm Metastasis

The aim of this study is to evaluate non-inferiority of salvage stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) in the patients who received surgical resection for brain metastases in comparison with postoperative whole brain radiation therapy (WBRT).

Study of Safety and Efficacy of Doxercalciferol in Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease, Stage 3...

Secondary HyperparathyroidismRenal Failure1 more

The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of Hectorol® (doxercalciferol) capsules in treating patients with Stage 3 or Stage 4 chronic kidney disease (CKD) with secondary hyperparathyroidism who have vitamin D levels in the normal range. Previous studies with doxercalciferol were conducted in patients who had low levels of vitamin D.

Use of Cetuximab for Unresectable or Metastatic Esophageal and Gastric Cancer

Esophageal CancerGastric Cancer1 more

Purpose: There remains a great need for novel therapeutic agents and treatment strategies for advanced esophagogastric cancer. Preclinical and clinical studies have demonstrated increased EGFR expression in a significant proportion of both esophageal and gastric carcinomas. Inactivation of EGFR through use of a monoclonal antibody in preclinical models has resulted in inhibition of tumor growth. Agents designed to block the EGFR pathway have demonstrated disease control among previously treated patients with metastatic esophageal and gastric cancer. The proposed mechanism of action for cetuximab is its ability to effectively disrupt EGFR-mediated signal transduction pathways that ultimately leads to halting cell cycle progression, induces apoptosis, and also inhibits processes important for tumor growth, such as cell invasion and angiogenesis.

A Trial of ABI-007 in Patients With Advanced Non-Hematologic Malignancies

NeoplasmsMetastases1 more

This trial will treat patients with advanced (metastatic) cancer with a new chemotherapeutic agent that may be more readily tolerated than some standard therapies. Patients will be given the new chemotherapeutic medicine once a week, by intravenous route, for three weeks, followed by a rest week. Treatment will be repeated in four week cycles if the patient improves on the therapy, and if there are no adverse events that require withdrawal of medication.

Photodynamic Therapy System for Patients With Refractory/Unresponsive Solid Tumors

Liver MetastasisPelvic Cancer6 more

This multi-center photodynamic therapy study plans to treat patients with large tumors in any superficial location, sarcoma, tumors of oral/oro-pharyngeal cavity, tumors with extensive pelvic involvement, or liver metastasis. The treatment is limited to patients that have failed to respond to currently approved methods of treatment. The study involves a single, intravenous administration of an investigational drug, LS11 (previously studied in approximately 80 cancer patients) and the placement of a novel, flexible light delivery catheter inside the tumor by a minor surgical procedure. The activation of LS11 by the light delivery catheter over a period of 1-24 hrs may result in destruction of tumor tissue.
