Migraine Difficult to Treat: the Importance of Psychological Care in the Chronic Patient
Migraine DisordersHeadache1 moreIn the study of migraine headaches, it is important to consider the affectation presented by those patients whose migraines do not respond easily to treatment. These difficult to treat patients are more likely to develop chronic headache, facilitating the appearance of psychological problems associated with this disease. Holistic care of these patients includes: the disability caused by pain, the impact of pain on their lives, the level of pain catastrophizing, perceived psychological well-being, quality of life and emotional distress. The quality of life of these patients is often severely affected and the psychoemotional symptoms are significantly elevated. The psychological impact associated with these difficult-to-treat chronic migraine patients is a neglected issue in current mental health care. Investigators propose to design a protocol for the evaluation and psychological treatment of these patients, based on cognitive-behavioral theory. After that, the psychological treatment of 10 group sessions will be implemented in a pilot sample. It will have 4 evaluation moments to be able to quantify, by means of questionnaires, the progress of the patients in the different stages of the study. The aim is to achieve an increase in the quality of life and a decrease in the interference of migraines in the patients' lives.

MigrainePatent Foramen OvaleMigraine attacks are episodic disorder that affects approximately 12% of the population, and studies have shown that 41-48% of migraineurs have a combination of patent foramen ovale (PFO). Clinical Observational studies have been linking PFO occlusion with the effectiveness in improving migraine symptoms and reducing the frequency of attacks. However, several RCTs have shown negative primary results, making it unclear whether PFO occlusion is effective in treating migraine. Our study is a prospective, double-blind, multi-center, and randomized study designed to test the effectiveness of migraine alleviation by performing percutaneous closure of patent foramen ovale in patients who are also diagnosed with PFO and migraine.

In recent years, as the mechanisms of headaches have been better understood, significant developments have been made in treatment methods. Different physiotherapy and rehabilitation methods have been used for treatment. There are studies in which cold application is used in migraine patients, but a study evaluating the effectiveness of cold application has not been found in the literature. The systemic effects of cold have two main purposes: to maintain the current body temperature and to produce energy to raise the fallen body temperature. Knowing both the local and systemic effects of cold guides its use in treatment. The aim of this study was to diagnose migraine. Determining the Utility of a Behavioral Intervention in Chronic Migraine
MigraineHeadache4 moreThis proposal will involve a pilot study to evaluate the feasibility, acceptability, and outcomes of a lifestyle behavior protocol in managing chronic migraine. Additionally, the proposal will investigate biomolecules that are uniquely involved in chronic migraine patients who respond to the protocol. Successful completion of this proposal will inform the design of a future full-scale behavioral clinical trial to control chronic migraine.
Investigation and Modulation of the Central Mu-Opioid Mechanism in Migraine (in Vivo)
Chronic MigraineThis study investigates whether unilateral and bilateral non-invasive brain stimulation, given for 20 minutes/once per day for twenty days (M-F) can reduce migraine pain. Fourty patients will receive treatment (20 unilateral treatment, and 20 bilateral treatment), while twenty will receive a "sham" procedure. Another 20 Episodic Migraine patients will be recruited for the observational aim of the study which does not include brain stimulation.
