Cerebri Biofeedback Feasibility Trial
Episodic MigraineThe purpose of this study is to investigate feasibility, usability, safety, efficacy, and tolerability of Cerebri biofeedback treatment for adults with episodic migraine. In the study, the app-based biofeedback treatment Cerebri for migraines in adults will be tested. By using biofeedback, bodily signals that are thought to be associated with migraines, are measured. During the treatment, one sensor is attached on the shoulder to measure activity in the shoulder and neck muscles and one sensor is attached to the index finger to measure temperature and heart rate variability. By getting on-screen feedback on the phone, the user can learn techniques to reduce muscle tension, and increase finger temperature and heart rate variability. Reduced muscle tension, as well as increase in finger temperature and heart rate variability is a sign of relaxation and a deactivation of the nervous system, which can lead to fewer and less serious migraine attacks.

MigraineHealthyThe placebo effect is a phenomenon that has experienced major advances of its understanding in the last decade. However, mechanisms of placebo analgesia in chronic pain patients have yet to be compared to healthy subjects. The investigators study aims to investigate the magnitude of placebo response and related opioid release in patients that suffer from episodic migraines as compared to healthy controls. In particular, the investigators are looking to map brain activity during placebo analgesia using modern brain imaging techniques such as functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) and Positron Emission Tomography (PET). The investigators hypothesis is that placebo response and the availability of opioid receptors is reduced in chronic migraine patients.

The two experimental groups receive acupuncture treatment for 4 weeks and two times functional magnetic resonance imaging scans as well as clinical symptom assessments. The control group receive one scan without any intervention. The aim of this study is to find the whether the effect of acupuncture treatment have diversity among migraineurs with different disease course.
The Effect of Laughter Therapy in Women
MigraineLaughterMigraine: An episodic disorder consisting of severe headache, usually with photophobia (sensitivity to light), phonophobia (sensitivity to sound), and/or nausea (occasionally vomiting). Migraine is predominantly a female disease. The incidence of migraine was found to in women (18.2/1000 person-years) and between the ages of 15-19 in men (6.2/1000 person-years). The incidence of migraine was found to peak between the ages of 20-24 in women (18.2/1000 person-years) and between the ages of 15-19 in men (6.2/1000 person-years). Migraine treatments are generally classified as pharmacological (treatment with medication) and non-pharmacological (treatment with no medication). Laughter therapy has recently come to the fore as a non-pharmacological and alternative treatment in chronic pain management. In a randomized controlled study, 30 minutes of laughter therapy was applied to women on the 2nd and 6th days after mastectomy surgery and it was determined that women who received laughter therapy had a significant decrease in pain and anxiety levels. This study was planned to determine the effect of laughter therapy on women with migraine.
