Alzheimer's DiseaseA second-generation tau PET image tracer 18F-PM-PBB3 (APN-1607 or MNI-958) has been developed by National Institute of Radiological Sciences. The new tracer solved the off-target binding issue. This study will evaluate new quantitative methods with PMPBB3, by utilized dual phase scanning protocol to extract blood flow and Tau protein binding information, to evaluate appropriate reference brain regions, to improve the normalization efficiency of brain imaging, and to establish a brain template image analysis platform.
Correlation of NLRP3 With Cognitive Dysfunction Early After Heart Valve Replacement Surgery
InflammasomesCognitive Dysfunction2 moreThe investigators decided to assess the prognostic value of NLRP3 inflammasome level in early after heart valve replacement surgery and whether it was related to postoperative cognitive dysfunction. Study population included 90 subjects. Neuropsychological tests were administrated one day before surgery and seven days after surgery. Before induction of anesthesia, before the end of the operation, 7 days after the operation, peripheral venous blood was sampled to measure IL-1B, IL-18 and NLRP3 inflammatory protein expression in peripheral blood monocytes. Analyze the data and draw conclusions.
Cognitive Dysfunction in Postural Tachycardia Syndrome
Postural Tachycardia SyndromeA common complaint among people with Postural Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) is "brain fog" or difficulty concentrating. This is very poorly understood. To better understand this cognitive dysfunction, the investigators will test people with POTS and people without POTS using various neuropsychiatric instruments. The investigators hypothesis is that people with POTS will have greater abnormalities on neuropsychiatric testing than normal controls.

Pilot Testing a New Computer-based Screening Tool to Detect Cognitive Impairment
Cognitive ImpairmentA computer-based neuropsychological assessment tool is being developed to help primary care physicians detect neurological and psychiatric disorders. The first version will be tested against current tests to confirm the tool's effectiveness. Data will be collected on how well the tool detects disease, how well patients understand the instructions and enjoy performing the tasks, and if particular trials or stimuli are too difficult or too easy for all subjects. Adjustments can then be made to the assessment tool, if needed. The initial participants will be age fifty-five to seventy-five with early dementias or mild cognitive impairment to reduce variability.

Heart Failure, Functional and Cognitive Decline, and Psychiatric Symptoms in Nursing Home Patients...
Heart FailureCongestiveHeart failure is very common in the elderly, in whom it may lead to functional and intellectual problems. Functional problems include loss in the ability to perform basic tasks of daily living such as bathing or dressing. No studies have yet described the rate at which heart failure causes these problems to develop. This study aims to find out whether nursing home patients deteriorate more quickly with respect to function and intellect if they have heart failure. Participants will undergo a thorough health history and physical examination and will be followed every 3 months for up to a year. Over 30 nursing homes in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, and Hamilton, in South Central Ontario (Canada), are participating in this study. Every 3 months, participants will be reviewed with respect to function, intellect, mood and behaviours. Results between those with heart failure will be compared to those of people without heart failure. The results of this study will be used to plan further studies to see whether good treatment of heart failure can preserve function, intellect, and prevent depression and other mood problems.

Coronary Artery DiseaseThe real impact of cardiac surgery and coronary angioplasty remains to be clarified and, where appropriate, the influencing factors in a way beneficial or deleterious remain to be identified. The identification of such factors could make even faster screening, prevention and therefore open therapeutic prospects for those patients. The objective of the study is to constitute a prospective cohort to assess the occurrence of cognitive decline after cardiac surgery (200 patients) and coronary angioplasty (200 patients) using the scale Dementia rating scale (DRS) of Mattis. In addition, the investigators will identify factors that influence positively or negatively, the occurrence of such a cognitive decline. The study based on a systematic monitoring of clinical, biological, imaging and pharmacological factors and, to correlate the respective influence of these factors on the incidence of cognitive decline.
