Influence Factors and Cognitive Characteristics in Unipolar and Bipolar Depression:Based on the...
Cognitive ImpairmentsCognitive impairment is the core symptom of unipolar and bipolar depression, which seriously affects the prognosis of the disease and the rehabilitation of social function. There is no unified conclusion in the field and severity of cognitive impairment, and the cause of cognitive impairment is unknown, which may be related to many factors. In this study, the THINC-it tool was used to study the characteristics of cognitive impairment in unipolar and bipolar depression by longitudinal follow-up, which provides a theoretical basis for the differential diagnosis of unipolar and bipolar depression. Early identification and intervention of risk factors can improve the prognosis of the disease.
Prediction of Amyloid and Mild Cognitive Impairment in Early Stage Alzheimer's Disease From Remote...
Alzheimer DiseaseAlzheimer's Disease (Incl Subtypes)1 moreThe S22 study investigates, in a cross-sectional study, the ability of algorithms that analyse acoustic and linguistic patterns of spoken language to predict the presence of amyloid positivity in early stage Alzheimer's disease, specifically in Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) and cognitively normal (CN) cohorts; and whether similar algorithms can predict cognitive functioning, in classifying MCI vs CN.
Nutrition, gUT Microbiota, and BRain AgINg: the NutBrain Study
Cognitive DysfunctionDietary HabitsEpidemiological evidence suggests that healthy diet is associated with a slowdown of cognitive decline leading to dementia, but the underlying mechanisms are still partially unexplored. Diet is the main determinant of gut microbiota' composition, which in turn impacts on brain structures and functions, however to date no studies on this topic are available. The goal of the present paper is to describe the design and methodology of the NutBrain Study aimed at investigating the association of dietary habits with cognitive function, and their role in modulating the gut microbiota composition, and brain measures as well. This is a population-based cohort study of community-dwelling adults aged 65 years or more living in Northern Milan, Italy. At the point of presentation people are screened for cognitive functions. Socio-demographic characteristics along with lifestyles and dietary habits, medical history, drugs, functional status, and anthropometric measurements are also recorded. Individuals suspected to have cognitive impairment at the screening phase undergo a clinical evaluation including a neurological examination and a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanning (both structural and functional). Stool and blood samples for the gut microbiota analysis and for the evaluation of putative biological markers are also collected. For each subject with a confirmed diagnosis of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), two cognitively intact controls of the same sex and age are visited. The investigators intend to enrol at least 683 individuals for the screening phase and approximately 240 persons for the clinical assessment. The NutBrain is an innovative study that incorporates modern and advanced technologies (i.e. microbiome and neuroimaging) into traditional epidemiologic design. The study represents a unique opportunity to address key questions about the role of modifiable risk factors on cognitive impairment, with a particular focus on dietary habits and their association with gut microbiota and markers of the brain-aging process. These findings will help to encourage and plan lifestyle interventions, for both prevention and treatment, aiming at promoting healthy cognitive ageing.
Effect of CI on Prognosis in the Elderly Patients With ACS
Acute Coronary SyndromeCognitive Impairment1 moreThis study aims to investigate the incidence and characteristics of cognitive Impairment(CI) in the elderly patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), and to determine whether CI are predictive of the prognosis of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) and mortality.
Discovery of Novel Biomarkers That Will Lead to the Early Detection of Alzheimer's Disease
Mild Cognitive ImpairmentAlzheimer DiseaseThis study will perform a targeted metabolic analysis in blood and urine samples from subjects attending the Baylor AT&T Memory Center. The aim is to identify novel biomarkers that can distinguish normal aging subjects with no cognitive impairment from those with mild, moderate or severe cognitive impairment associated with Alzheimer's disease. Subjects will also be screened for B-vitamin deficiencies that may correlate with other metabolic biomarkers and Alzheimer's disease.
Reference Database & Longitudinal Registry of the Normal and Pathological Aging Brain
Early Onset Alzheimer DiseaseMild Cognitive Impairment2 moreEstablishment of a BNA reference database for the Adult and Elderly Population. Hypothesis-generating study designed to collect data that will aid in future scientific and engineering exploration of correlations between clinical assessments and BNA scores. The results are primarily intended for scientific inquiry and engineering development purposes, and may be used in future regulatory submissions.
Retina Microvascular Remodeling and Cognitive Function In Hypertension
HypertensionMild Cognitive ImpairmentThis study aims to determine the relationships between retina micro-vascular remodeling and cognitive function in hypertensive patients. The study plans to enrol 160 patients (100 patients with mild cognitive impairment -MCI- and 60 without MCI).
DOC Utility: Screening of Depression, Obstructive Sleep Apnea and Cognitive Impairment
StrokeTransient Ischemic Attack3 moreThe primary objective of this study is to determine whether baseline DOC screening can add to clinical and demographic data to predict the occurrence of a composite negative outcome (any of: recurrent stroke, myocardial infarction, death, or admission to a long-term care (LTC) / complex continuing care (CCC) facility) within one year of screening, in stroke prevention clinic patients.
Exposure to General Anaesthesia in Infancy and Neurocognitive Development
Central Nervous System Complications of AnesthesiaImpaired CognitionThis prospective cohort study aims to determine if apparently healthy children with no significant co-morbidities who undergo general anaesthesia for minor surgery before 15 months of age will develop measurable deficits in neurocognitive development compared to apparently healthy children with no significant co-morbidities who do not undergo general anaesthesia or surgery.
Post Cardiac Surgery Neurocognitive Decline: Correlations Between Neuropsychological Tests and Functional...
Postoperative Cognitive DysfunctionPostoperative cognitive decline (POCD) is a frequent complication after cardiac surgery. It is estimated that 40-70% of all cardiac patients show cognitive dysfunction during the first post-surgical week. Six weeks after surgery, this incidence decreases to 10-40% and the figure remains stable over the long-term. The investigators will recruit 50 patients undergoing elective valve surgery and each patient will receive complete evaluation a) preoperative, one week before surgery; b) early postoperative, before hospital discharge; and c) late postoperative, 8 weeks follow up. The investigators will apply Diffusion Tensor Imaging, 1Proton-Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy and Morphometry studies with correlation to neuropsychological test battery to evaluate POCD.
