Yellow Pea Fractions and Short-term Food Intake, Subjective Appetite and Glycemic Response
ObesityType II Diabetes Mellitus1 moreIt is hypothesized that yellow pea protein and fiber will reduce short-term food intake, subjective appetite and glycemic response.
Study of Gene Activity in Fat and Muscle in Diabetics and Healthy Controls
HealthyType 2 Diabetes1 moreThe aim of the present protocol is to study gene activity in fat and muscle tissue in type 2 diabetics and healthy volunteers after injection of E. coli endotoxin. We hereby hope to gain insight in some mechanisms behind the association between inflammation and insulin resistance.
Tele-Diab: Electronic Diary for Patients With Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus
Diabetes Mellitus Type 2Insulin ResistanceThe purpose of the study is to show if telemonitoring and automated feedback regarding glucose management, physical activity, blood pressure, and body weight improves treatment of patients with insulin dependent Type 2 Diabetes mellitus.
Study to Determine the Utility of Novel Technologies and Biomarkers to Measure Human Response to...
Diabetes MellitusType 2Insulin resistance (IR) is common in many metabolic disorders and predisposes an individual to Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM), the Metabolic Syndrome and coronary atherosclerosis. Non-diabetics with IR are at risk, but can be difficult to diagnose. A major problem with the use of IR as a predictor or marker of disease is the lack of a simple, robust test that can be used to quantify this parameter in a wide variety of clinical situations. The current 'gold standard' methods for measuring insulin sensitivity, such as the hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic (H-E) clamp, are complex, time consuming and costly. Alternative, simpler methods, such as the Homeostasis Model Assessment (HOMA-IR) score, may be less accurate and are not widely accepted.
Nephropathy In Type 2 Diabetes and Cardio-renal Events
Diabetic NephropathyThe NID-2 study, a multicentric study (21 centres enrolled), was planned in two phases: Phase 1(observational study, completed in September 2005): after the identification of a type-2 diabetic population with typical Diabetic Nephropathy (DN), to study of the rate of renal and cardiovascular events during a middle term follow-up. Phase 2(interventional study, started in October 2005): after randomization in two groups, a group (intervention group) is treated with an intensive multifactorial intervention whose aim is to reduce morbidity and mortality due to diabetic complications. The other group (control group) continues the conventional therapy . To avoid bias in the treatment in each center, the randomization was performed for centre.
Safety and Efficacy of Autologous Adipose-Derived Stem Cell Transplantation in Type 2 Diabetics...
Type 2 Diabetes MellitusThe purpose of this study is to determine whether intravenous administration of autologous adipose-derived stem cells is of benefit in the management of types 2 diabetics.
Lifestyle Intervention's Impact on Health Care Costs
Diabetes MellitusType 21 moreThe ICAN Pilot project aims to evaluate the differences in economic, clinical and quality of life outcomes of a nutrition intervention involving lifestyle case management and medical nutrition therapy by a registered dietitian compared to usual medical care in obese persons with type 2 diabetes. The intervention is aimed at moderate weight loss (> 5-10%), improvement in diet quality and an increase in physical activity.
Diagnosis and Physiopathology of Insulin Allergy
Diabetes MellitusType 15 moreInsulin allergy (IA) is still observed even with recombinant human insulin and insulin analogs. Obviously, the usual attitude facing an allergy, i. e. exclusion of the allergen, poses problems in face of IA because insulin is often vital for the patient. IA is thus a complex situation in which a rigorous diagnostic procedure to identify the exact allergen is necessary to propose a therapeutic answer; the purpose of the study is 1/ to validate a diagnostic algorithm for patients presenting with possible allergy. 2/ to investigate immunogenetic profiles of patient with insulin allergy 3/ cellular mechanisms of IA.
Actos Now for Prevention of Diabetes (ACT NOW)
Impaired Glucose ToleranceType 2 DiabetesThe purpose of this study is to examine whether pioglitazone versus placebo can reduce the conversion rate of impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) to type 2 diabetes mellitus
Stress-relief Management for Treatment of Late Complications in Type 2 Diabetes
AlbuminuriaDiabetes Mellitus2 moreThe purpose of this study is to determine whether a structured stress relief management program can prevent the progression of late diabetic complications in patients with type 2 diabetes.
