Observational Study on Safety of Self-titration of Once Daily Levemir®

DiabetesDiabetes Mellitus1 more

This study is conducted in Europe. The main objective of the study is to assess the safety of self-titration in type 2 diabetic patients on antidiabetic tablets who are receiving insulin for the first time. The study will also look at the blood glucose control, frequency of dose adjustment, clinic visits, and time spent training patients to self-titrate. The objective of diabetes management is to achieve blood glucose levels as close as possible to normal in order to avoid late stage diabetic complications. Self-titration (where patients adjust insulin dosage themselves) offers the potential for better blood glucose control than titration only at clinic visits. In recent years treatment of type 2 diabetes in the United Kingdom has moved from hospitals to GP surgeries or local clinics. Patients with type 2 diabetes, in general, have not been trained in self-titration to the same degree as patients with type 1 diabetes. Less experience in self-titration could impact the level of blood glucose control and outcome for these patients. Data from this study will be pooled with data from NN304-3714 (NCT00825643) and will be reported in the final study report for NN304-3714.

Glucose Metabolism and Sleep in People With Family History of Type 2 Diabetes.

SleepInsulin Resistance1 more

The use of sugar and starch-like foods for energy (carbohydrate metabolism) changes when people sleep. However, it is still not known if differences in the amount of nighttime sleep have an effect on the carbohydrate metabolism of people who have a relative with type 2 diabetes (parent, sibling, or grandparent). This study is being done to test the hypothesis that individual differences in habitual sleep duration may be related to differences in the carbohydrate metabolism of people who have a history of type 2 diabetes in their family.

Observational Study to Evaluate Safety and Efficacy of Insulin Therapy in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus...

DiabetesDiabetes Mellitus1 more

This study is conducted in Asia. The aim of this observational study is to evaluate the incidence of major hypoglycaemic episodes and other adverse events, and to evaluate efficacy while using insulin under normal clinical practice conditions. The switch from OAD treatment to insulin therapy will be determined by physician.

Avandamet Bioequivalence Study Brazil - Fed Administration

Diabetes MellitusType 2

The study is prospective, open-label, randomized, crossover, with 02 treatments, 02 sequences, and 02 periods. The volunteers received, in each period, the reference or the test formulation after standardized meals.

Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) in Subjects With Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect CGM (continuous glucose monitoring) has on subjects with type 2 diabetes. It is anticipated that patients using the device will obtain tighter control of their blood sugars resulting in measureable health benefits and improved confidence in their ability to manage their diabetes.

A Prospective, Observational Study to Assess and Evaluate the Use of Glucophage XR Therapy in the...

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

This was an observational, prospective, multicentric study conducted in a cohort of subjects with type 2 diabetes and prescribed with Glucophage XR therapy from hospitals or clinics in Hong Kong, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore. Glucophage XR is being used in the Asia Pacific region for the treatment of subjects with type 2 diabetes. This study was designed to provide information on the day to-day experience of using Glucophage XR in the management of subjects with type 2 diabetes and its use in routine clinical practice in Asia Pacific region.

Apelin Levels and G212A Polymorphism of Apelin Receptor (APJ)

ObesityInsulin Resistance1 more

The aim of this study is to investigate serum apelin levels as well as their possible association with G212A polymorphism of the apelin receptor in obese children and adolescents. So far apelin has been reported to be involved in the pathophysiology of various heart diseases such as cardiomyopathies and heart failure. According to recent reports in adults apelin seems to be associated with impaired glucose metabolism, particularly in newly diagnosed diabetes type 2 patients. Obesity is associated with insulin resistance and compensatory hyperinsulinemia leading to diabetes mellitus type 2 even in youngsters. The researchers will try to investigate the role of this new adipokine in order to early detect and to prevent similar entities in childhood obesity.
