Treatment With Quetiapine for Youth With Substance Use Disorders and Severe Mood Dysregulation

This study proposes to use quetiapine as an adjunct treatment to treatment as usual to improve both substance use disorder (SUD) and mood symptoms in youth with SUD and severe mood dysregulation (SMD). This is a randomized, double blind placebo controlled parallel design study. Youth with symptoms of mood dysregulation and active substance use that meets criteria for a SUD will be randomized to adjunct treatment with quetiapine or placebo. The investigators hypothesize that treatment with quetiapine will lead to a reduction in substance use, improvement in mood, and lead to greater engagement in outpatient treatment.

Brain Emotion Circuitry-Targeted Self-Monitoring and Regulation Therapy (BE-SMART)

New treatments to help to reduce the emotional dysregulation of mood disorders are critically needed. This is a study of an emotional dysregulation psychotherapy treatment in which participants will learn skills to help to down-regulate maladaptive emotional responses and learn beneficial, healthy habits. Investigators will perform symptom and behavioral assessments and scanning prior to the treatment and will then repeat scanning, symptom and behavioral assessments at the midpoint, and after the psychotherapy is completed. This collected information will assess whether the treatment can improve functioning of emotion regulation brain circuitry.

Mood Lifters Online for Graduate Students and Young Professionals

Mood Lifters is a revolutionary mental wellness program that teaches scientifically validated strategies in a supportive group setting. This study will test two new versions of the program designed specifically for graduate students and young professionals. Participants will need to attend 12 hour long virtual weekly meetings on Zoom that focus on helpful mental health strategies and skills. Participants will be encourage to practice what the participants learn at home in order to improve their mood or mental wellness. Additionally, participants will complete a series of measures (approx. 1-1.5 hours) prior to, at the end of the program, 1 month after the program and 6 months after the program.

The investigators are doing this study to see if "positive psychology" can help adults with depression or bipolar disorder. Positive psychology involves exercises-short tasks-that try to increase good feelings and emotions, like optimism, happiness, personal strengths, and well-being. Positive psychology exercises might include imagining a bright future, being grateful for good events, forgiving others, and doing kind acts for others. The investigators want to see if practicing positive psychology exercises after leaving the hospital can increase feelings of hope, optimism, and positive thinking. The investigators are asking you to take part in this research study because you are in the hospital for depression or bipolar disorder. This research study will compare "positive psychology exercises" to "control condition exercises." During the study, you may take part in control condition exercises instead of positive psychology exercises.

Several studies now indicate that completing an internet-based treatment for depression, called Deprexis, can significantly improve symptoms of depression. However, not everyone improves. The purpose of this study is to determine whether genetic profile can predict who is likely to improve.

To determine the convenience and satisfaction of new orally disintegrating tablet formulation (ODT) of lamictal in subjects with a mood disorder. This was a multicenter, open-label study in participants with a mood disorder, who reported difficulty or discomfort in swallowing the currently marketed IR compressed tablet formulation of lamotrigine and who had a person (such as a spouse, partner, companion, aid, nurse, caregiver, etc) willing to complete a Companion/Caregiver Question. Subjects were switched from the currently marketed lamotrigine IR formulation to a matching dose of lamotrigine IR orally disintegrating tablet (ODT) for 3 weeks to determine convenience and satisfaction.

Self-Management and Recovery Technology Psychosocial Intervention Trial

This project is a component of a broader research program referred to as "Self-Management and Recovery Technology (SMART): Use of online technology to promote self-management and recovery in people with psychosis", which has been funded by the Victorian Department of Health Mental Illness Research Fund (MIRF33). The overall research program is examining the therapeutic potential of using online (Internet-based) educational and multimedia resources in mental health services. It involves the development of a website which can be accessed via an internet browser on a desktop computer, tablet computer, or smartphone. It consists of a series of educational modules containing textual information, exercises, audio, and video clips designed to promote self-management and recovery in people with a history of persisting mental illness. This particular project (SMART-Therapy) involves a randomised controlled trial examining the use of a discrete 8-session psychosocial intervention delivered in addition to routine care which utilises these online materials. The intervention will involve a mental health worker meeting with the participant with a tablet computer (e.g. iPad) on which online materials can be viewed, and used to guide an interaction with the participant. The randomised controlled trial will include 148 participants, who will be randomised to receive one of two interventions: (a) meeting with a support worker using the SMART website to guide interaction (health intervention), or (b) meeting with a support worker delivering a social interaction-based control condition (social intervention). In each condition, there will be 8 x 50min face-to-face sessions over 3 months. Assessments will be completed pre-randomisation, and at 3, 6 and 9 months. The primary hypothesis is that participants randomised to the health intervention will show greater improvement in personal recovery than participants randomised to the social intervention, and that these improvements will be maintained at follow-up (6 and 9 months following intake).

This study examines how online self-guided programs can improve mood and anxiety symptoms. These programs use exercises from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, which is an evidence-based treatment for depression and anxiety. The purpose of this study is to learn who will do best with the online format. Our aim is to learn for whom online self-guided interventions are most efficacious. This knowledge is important because it will help inform clinicians and patients about who might benefit from this type of intervention versus who would need the assistance of a therapist. More specifically, we hope to figure out who would benefit from solely an online intervention and who would benefit from an online intervention in addition to other treatment.
