Bariatric Surgery and Pharmacokinetics of Lisdexamphetamine

ObesityMorbid

Changes to gastric pH, gastric emptying time, gastrointestinal transit-time or the pre-systemic metabolizing effect of enzymes secreted in the mucosa may all alter the pharmacokinetics of medicines. These factors are potentially influenced by bariatric surgery. Little is so far known about how gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy impacts the biological availability of medication. In this study the pharmacokinetic effects of bariatric surgery on lisdexamphetamine are investigated.

Evaluation of the Non-inferiority of the Robotic Approach Over the Laparoscopic Approach in Patients...

ObesityMorbid

Treating patients with super-obesity has always been challenging for bariatric surgeons due to the higher risk of postoperative complications and the limited success of commonly used bariatric procedures (restrictive and hypo-absorptive). In this context, these patients are often considered for more complex procedures, such as hypo-absorptive interventions. Over the past 15 years, a new hypo-absorptive procedure called single-anastomosis duodenal switch with biliopancreatic diversion (SADI-S) has been introduced and recognized as a bariatric procedure by leading national and international scientific societies. It has shown promising short- and medium-term results regarding weight loss and metabolic improvements. The SADI-S procedure is a technically complex multi-quadrant surgery. This study aims to evaluate the equivalence in terms of morbidity between laparoscopic and robotic approaches for patients undergoing this procedure.

Effect of Ketogenic Diet on Peri-operative Complications of Right Laparoscopic Adrenalectomy in...

Adrenalectomy; StatusObesity1 more

Ketogenic diet is often prescribed to morbid obese patients scheduled for bariatric surgery in order to reduce liver size, thus making surgery less demanding. The study aim to investigate the possible effects of ketogenic diet on intra- and peri-operative complications of right laparoscopic adrenalectomy in obese patients; researchers will analyze intra- and peri-operative outcomes among obese patients who underwent laparoscopic right adrenalectomy, comparing the two arms with and without ketogenic diet.

Biological Sample Repository for Gastrointestinal Disorders

ObesityObesity18 more

The goal of this observational study has the purpose of collecting biological samples from obese patients undergoing evaluation for weight loss by means of medical or endoscopic therapies; and of post bariatric surgery patients presenting with short- and long-term surgical complications. The aim is to enhance the overall understanding of the mechanisms leading to obesity, weight loss, failure to lose weight, and weight regain following treatment. Additional goals are to determine the efficacy of endoscopic and surgical procedures, to identify potential therapeutic targets and disease biomarkers that predict response to therapy.

Pilot Study of the Endolumik Gastric Calibration Tube for Bariatric Surgery

Morbid Obesity

The pilot study will be a First In Human Clinical Trial to evaluate the Endolumik Gastric Calibration Tube and associated methods in a human clinical cohort of 20-30 bariatric patients at two high-volume bariatric programs. During this clinical study, the single-use, disposable Endolumik Gastric Calibration Tube will be used during twenty sleeve gastrectomy operations and gastric bypass operations.

The Effect of Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy on Insulin Secretion Pattern in Morbidly Obese Patients...

Morbid ObesityAcanthosis Nigricans3 more

Acanthosis nigricans (AN) is increasing in its prevalence and is the most prevalent cutaneous manifestation in individuals with obesity. Insulin resistance or hyperinsulinemia is the main pathophysiological mechanism of obesity-related AN. However, the effect of laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) on insulin secretion pattern in Chinese morbidly obese patients with AN is unknown. In these study, the investigators aimed to explore the insulin secretion patterns in Chinese morbidly obese patients with Acanthosis nigricans (AN) and their alterations after LSG.

Bougie Sleeve Trial

Morbid Obesity

Staple-line leak is the most frequent and incapacitating complication after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG). The aim of this prospective randomized trial is to compare the staple-line leak rate after LSG according to the use of a standard bougie calibre (34, 36 or 38 Fr) or 48-Fr, assuming that a higher diameter is correlated with a lower risk of leak, without lowering long-term weight loss.

Two Hypoabsorption Techniques for the Treatment of Type III Obesity (OASIS)

ObesityMorbid

This study aims to compare the percentage of total weight lost in long-term follow-up after two surgical interventions (SADIS and OAGB) in patients with morbid obesity BMI between 45-49.9.

Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy Surgery and External Oblique Intercostal Block

AnesthesiaRegional Anesthesia2 more

In obese patients, adequate pain relief in the postoperative period is an important parameter that affects patient comfort and hospital stay. Increasing patient comfort and recovery quality can be achieved by avoiding undesirable effects such as nausea, vomiting, and analgesia. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the external oblique intercostal block postoperative acute pain scores and opioid consumption in the first 24 hours after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy surgery.
