Whole Transcriptome Profiling and Metabolic Phenotyping in Children With ROHHAD Syndrome

Childhood ObesityMorbid Obesity

Rapid onset Obesity, Hypoventilation, Hypothalamic dysfunction and Autonomic Dysregulation (ROHHAD) is a syndrome named in 2007. The hallmark of the syndrome is the rapid onset obesity and dysregulation of central ventilation. There is little information about the metabolic changes that lead to the rapid onset obesity in these children. The investigators would like to study the metabolic phenotype of these children to understand the disturbances in energy balance that lead to the rapid onset obesity.

Endoscopic Gastric Tubulization

Morbid Obesity

Endoscopic gastric tubulization is currently proposed in the Digestive Surgery Department of the Nouvel Hôpital Civil, Strasbourg, France, to adult patients with morbid obesity. The procedure is performed using the CE marked endoscopic suture device Overstitch (Apollo Endosurgery, Austin, Tx. USA). It is standard practice since October 2016. The objective of this study is to prospectively collect data of patients who underwent an endoscopic gastric tubulization, from last visit before procedure to 2 years after procedure. These data are usually collected during medical consultations and will enable the evaluation of weight loss, quality of life and comorbidities improvement, reproducibility and durability of the technique.

Investigating the Link Between Type 2 Immunity and NAFLD in Human Obesity

ObesityMorbid2 more

This study is being done to better understand the relationship between inflammation in adipose tissue (AT), abnormal deposition of fat around the liver and how this affects its appearance and function and ultimately insulin resistance.

Metabolic Responses to Bariatric Surgery

Morbid Obesity

Research the genetic and biomechanical markers of human adipose tissue on patients with morbid obesity. Additional tissue/fluid collection is also gathered during the time of surgery.

An Evaluation of the Outcomes of Bariatric Surgery - a Cohort Study

Morbid Obesity

A prospective bariatric database was carried out in the Department of Digestive and Endocrine Surgery at the University Hospital of Strasbourg, France, starting in January 1996. All potential candidates for obesity surgery were prospectively registered in the database. Patients were informed by the bariatric surgeon of the prospective database, and of the possibility of utilizing personal data for research purpose after anonymization. A case-control study was performed, to compare the quality of life (QoL) of patients treated for internal hernia (IH group) with the QoL of patients with an uncomplicated course after Roux en Y gastric bypass (Uncomplicated RYGB group).

Bone Health After Bariatric Surgery in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes

Bariatric SurgeryBone Health4 more

Background: Bone fragility is a complication of type 2 diabetes. Diabetes treatments may ameliorate or deteriorate bone fragility in this population. Bariatric surgery is gaining in popularity in people with type 2 diabetes and may impact bone health. Objectives: To evaluate the impact of the most popular bariatric procedure worldwide (sleeve gastrectomy (SG)) on vBMD by QCT in patients with type 2 diabetes; Secondary aims: (1) to identify the determinants of vBMD after bariatric surgery in patients with type 2 diabetes; (2) to compare vBMD and its potential determinants after bariatric surgery with obese controls without diabetes as well as with controls without obesity and normoglycemia.

Positive Psychology Intervention for Patients Post-bariatric Surgery and Their Partners

ObesityMorbid

The goal of this waitlist-control design, pilot randomized controlled trial is to test feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of a remotely-delivered dyadic positive psychology intervention for patients 2 years after bariatric surgery and their romantic partners (called ReConnect). The main question it aims to answer is whether the intervention results in improvements in depressive symptoms for patients and partners. The additional questions it aims to answer are whether the intervention results in improvements in resilience, relationship satisfaction, eating and physical activity behaviors, and weight maintenance for those in the intervention versus waitlist control condition. Participant couples randomly assigned to the intervention condition will engage in ReConnect for 8 weekly modules and associated positive psychology activities, some individually and some as a couple. Participant couples randomly assigned to the waitlist control condition will wait for 8 weeks to begin the 8 week intervention. All participants will fill out assessment measures at baseline, 8 weeks, and 16 weeks.

Oxytocin and Sleeve Gastrectomy

ObesityMorbid

Morbid obesity has become a common condition and there is no effective drug that is able to induce a sustained weight loss. Currently bariatric surgery remains the only effective means that is able to lead to long term sustained weight loss. Oxytocin is a hormone secreted by the hypophysis that regulates negatively the adipogenesis and positively the osteogenesis. Oxytocin also regulates appetite and its role in weight loss in humans has not been investigated so far. The aim of the present study is to elucidate whether plasma levels of oxytocin and sleeve gastrectomy induced weight loss are correlated in pre-menopausal morbidly obese women.
