Effect of a Monthly High Dose of Vitamin D3 on Bariatric Surgery Patients

Morbid ObesityVitamin D Deficiency

Bariatric surgery patients tend to have malabsorption of many micronutrients such as B12, Iron and vitamin D postoperative. So in this study, a monthly high dose of vitamin D3 is giving to patients with their routine supplements and followed up for 6 months. Hypothesis:Bariatric surgery subjects taking monthly high dose cholecalciferol supplements in addition to the standard vitamin D protocol will have a significant rise in serum vitamin D levels compared to the subjects taking only the usual vitamin D protocol.

Endoscopic Gastric Mucosal Devitalization (GMD) as a Primary Obesity Therapy

ObesityObesity3 more

Rapid metabolic improvements seen with sleeve gastrectomy are likely a result of changes in gastric origin. The gastric mucosa is an endocrine organ that regulates satiation pathways and is a complex regulator of food intake as well as lipid and glucose metabolism. This study aims to assess the efficacy and safety of endoscopic selective gastric mucosal devitalization (GMD) for the management of obesity and its related comorbidities.

Bi-PAP vs Sham Bi-PAP on Pulmonary Function in Morbidly Obese Patients After Bariatric Surgery

AtelectasisPulmonary Infection5 more

The effect of biphasic positive airway pressure (Bi-PAP) at individualized pressures on the postoperative pulmonary recovery of morbidly obese patients (MOP) undergoing open bariatric surgery (OBS) and possible placebo device-related effects (sham-Bi-PAP) were investigated.

Exercise Following Bariatric Surgery for Severe/Morbid Obesity (EFIBAR)

ObesityMorbid1 more

Severe/morbid obesity is an international public health issue that importantly increases the risk of cardiovascular events and cardiovascular and all-cause mortality. Likewise, severe/morbid obesity increases the risk of illness, reduces quality of life, and raises health-care costs. Bariatric surgery is the election method for the treatment of severe/morbid obesity, resulting in significant weight loss and remission of comorbidities. However, a relatively large proportion of bariatric patients regain weight and continue to be at high risk for cardiovascular disease and premature mortality. A healthy lifestyle following bariatric surgery is essential for optimizing and maintaining weight loss. Observational studies suggest that physical activity following bariatric surgery might be associated with additional weight loss and more effective weigh loss maintenance over time. However, very little experimental evidence exists regarding the effects of supervised exercise on obesity-related outcomes in this specific population. The aim of the EFIBAR (Ejercicio FÍsico tras cirugía BARiátrica) randomized controlled trial is to determine the effects of a 16-week supervised concurrent (aerobic and strength) exercise intervention program, on weight loss (primary outcome), body composition, cardiometabolic risk, physical fitness and quality of life (secondary outcomes) in patients with severe/morbid obesity following bariatric surgery. According to the study aims the investigators pursue the following hypothesis: Supervised exercise will result in larger weight loss than control.

Study of the Effect of the Drug Gabapentin on Postoperative Pain and Incidence of Postoperative...

ObesityMorbid2 more

The purpose of this research study is to evaluate the drug gabapentin (Neurontin®) for its ability to reduce postoperative pain, the need for morphine-like pain medication, and the severity and frequency of postoperative nausea and vomiting in laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery patients.

Comparison of Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy and Roux-Y-gastric Bypass in the Treatment of Morbid...

Morbid Obesity

The laparoscopic sleeve-gastrectomy (SG) compared to laparoscopic proximal Roux-Y-gastric bypass (PGB) is as successful in the treatment of morbid obesity in the majority of patients. In case of insufficient weight loss malabsorption can to be added by performing laparoscopic bilious-pancreatic diversion duodenal switch (BPD). The resection of the gastric fundus (LG) leads to changes in gastrointestinal hormones that are possibly different to bypassing the fundus (PGB).

Comorbidities Resolution After MGB Surgery and Change in Body Composition

Morbid ObesityType2diabetes6 more

This observational study aims to learn about the correlation between the improving comorbidities associated with obesity after MGB (Mini-Gastric Bypass) surgery and changes in body composition in morbidly obese patients. The main questions it aims to answer are: To study the correlation between the improving comorbidities associated with obesity after MGB(Mini-Gastric Bypass) surgery and changes in body composition. Other objectives are: Changes in the parameters of the metabolic syndrome after surgery Changes in the cardiovascular risk biomarkers after metabolic surgery Emergence in complications arising out of surgery requiring any intervention or causing a prolonged hospital stay, or requiring additional outpatient visits. Type of Study: An observational study in which participants with morbid obesity will undergo mini-gastric bypass surgery as per routine protocol. No separate experimental interventions will be done in the study for the participants.
