Effects of Fingolimod on Heart Rhythm and Heart Rate Variability in Patients With Multiple Sclerosis...

Multiple Sclerosis

The current study sought to prolong the observational interval after initiating medication with fingolimod and to measure the long-term effects of fingolimod on HR and HRV as an indicator of autonomic nervous system function in patients with RR-MS.

MS Relapses During COVID-19 Pandemic

Multiple SclerosisCovid191 more

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, and to our knowledge there have been no studies looking systematically at the occurrence of MS relapses and their subsequent management, during the peak of the first wave of the pandemic. In this study we will explore how MS relapses were reported and managed during April - June 2020, compared to a control cohort who experienced a relapse during the same period in 2019 across 5 UK centers.

Effect of Variance on Error Correction During Coupling

Multiple SclerosisProgressive Multiple Sclerosis

This study is a case-control study, involving persons with progressive multiple sclerosis and healthy controls. The study contains 1 descriptive and 3 experimental sessions. In the descriptive session, participant's clinical motor and cognitive functions are collected. In the first experimental session, participant's beat perception and synchronisation abilities is examined within a finger tapping paradigm. In the following experimental sessions participants synchronsiation abilities is examined during walking paradigms, to music and metronomes, with period and phase auditory manipulations. In the latter twp sessions, apart from outcome measures of synchronization the following will be collected as well: brain activity using EEG recordings, spatio-temporal gait parameters, perceived fatigue, perceived motivation and perceived speed of walking.

Rituximab-Induced Hypogammaglobulinemia in Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple SclerosisHypogammaglobulinemia

B cells are considered major contributors to multiple sclerosis (MS) pathogenesis, a role that has taken on renewed importance with the advent of B-cell-depleting therapies. Rituximab is being increasingly utilized as an off-label treatment option across MS patients . In addition, there have been increasing reports of rituximab causing hypogammaglobulinaemia and antibody deficiency across a variety of conditions including MS and related neuroinflammatory disorders. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to evaluate the rate of hypogammaglobulinemia in rituximab-treated MS adult patients and to assess the correlation with vaccination response during the treatment.

Auditory-motor Coupling in Multiple Sclerosis With Cerebellar Lesions

Multiple SclerosisCerebral Lesion

This study is a case-control observational study, involving persons with multiple sclerosis and healthy controls. The study contains 1 descriptive and 4 experimental sessions. In the descriptive session, participant's clinical motor and cognitive functions are collected. In the first experimental session, participant's beat perception and synchronisation abilities is examined within a finger tapping paradigm. In the following experimental sessions participants synchronsiation abilities is examined during walking paradigms, to music and metronomes, at different tempi and alignment strategies. In the latter three sessions, apart from outcome measures of synchronization the following will be collected as well: spatio-temporal gait parameters, perceived fatigue, perceived motivation and perceived speed of walking.

Signatures of Immune Reprogramming in Anti-CD52 Therapy of MS: Markers for Risk Stratification and...

Multiple Sclerosis

Alemtuzumab is a highly effective therapy in relapse remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS). The aim of this study is to elucidate the mechanism of action of the neuroprotective potential of alemtuzumab in RRMS. Therefore, the investigators will semi-annually analyse blood samples of RRMS patients treated with alemtuzumab up to 36 months. Using in vitro/ ex vivo assays the investigators aim to detect and characterize immune cells including their functional activity. Furthermore, the study aims to combine this analysis with clinical data (MRI, EDSS: Expanded Disability Status Scale, MSFC: Multiple Sclerosis Functional Composite) to reveal the underlining mechanism of action of alemtuzumab to further improve its efficacy and safety for present and future patients.

Chronic Inflammatory Disease, Lifestyle and Risk of Disease

Autoimmune DiseasesInflammatory Bowel Diseases9 more

Chronic inflammatory diseases (CID) - including inflammatory bowel diseases (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), rheumatic conditions (rheumatoid arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis, psoriatic arthritis), inflammatory skin diseases (psoriasis) and multiple sclerosis are diseases of the immune system that have some shared genetic and environmental predisposing factors, but still little is known on the effects of lifestyle as a prognostic factor on disease risk. This observational study will contribute to preexisting research on lifestyle factors by identifying diet factors associated with risk of developing CID, using prospective register data. The study will use data from all of the 57,053 participants in the Danish cohort "Diet, Health and Cancer (DHC)" together with registry data. Blood samples, anthropometric measures and questionnaire data on diet and lifestyle were collected at the DHC study entry. The National Patient Registry (NPR) will be used to obtain to identify patients with CID during follow-up. Follow-up information on death and immigration will be collected in March 2018 from the Danish Civil Registration Register. The outcome CID is defined as at least one of the following CIDs: Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, psoriasis/psoriatic arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis/ankylosing arthritis, or multiple sclerosis, during the follow-up period from 1993 to March 2018. The primary hypothesis is that "the risk of CID will be significantly higher among those with a low fibre/high red and processed meat intake compared to those with a high fibre/low red and processed meat intake." Based on previous research on a shared etiology in CIDs a second hypothesis is that "the postulated causality between low fibre/high red and processed meat intake and risk of developing CID is applicable for each of the CID-diagnoses." The core study is an open register-based cohort study. The study does not need approval from the local Ethics committee or Institutional Review Board by Danish law. The study was approved by the Danish Data Protection Agency (2012-58-0018) Study findings will be disseminated through peer-reviewed journals, patient associations and presentations at international conferences.

Outcomes Data of Adipose Stem Cells to Treat Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple Sclerosis

The purpose of this study is to determine the impact that treatment with a cellular concentrate derived from an individual's own fat, known as the stromal vascular fraction (SVF), has on the quality of life of people with multiple sclerosis (MS). SVF contains components with "regenerative" properties, including stem cells that may be capable of ameliorating specific disease conditions. This study is designed to evaluate quality of life changes in individuals with MS for up to 12 months following SVF treatment.
