Periodic FeverAphthous Stomatitis2 moreThe purpose of study is to see if adding probiotics to corticosteroid treatment for children with PFAPA could improve the health and daily of patients through reduction in febrile period frequency and length, along with concomitant reduction of associated symptoms. Current standard of care incorporates the administration of corticosteroids; however, while limiting the symptoms associated with PFAPA, corticosteroid use has been shown to increase the frequency at which these symptoms occur. Investigators hypothesize that administration of probiotics along with corticosteroids will work to decrease the frequency at which the febrile episodes occur. Additionally, probiotics may decrease the maximal fever experienced during these episodes, amount of corticosteroid needed to control the symptoms, average length of the episodes, and the number of patients who ultimately undergo tonsillectomy due to unsuccessful treatment with medication.

The Mucositis Study Group of the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer and International Society of Oral Oncology (MASCC/ISOO) recommends the use of photobiomodulation (PBM) in the prevention of OM. PBM is the application of lasers or non-coherent light sources such as LEDs, to beneficially influence cellular metabolism. Even though PBM has proved its efficacy, this therapeutic option is currently limited by lack of standardization, accuracy and reproducibility. CareMin650 has been developed to overcome these issues, since it allows a reproducible delivery of light, independently of the operator. Additionally, it is easy to use and user-friendly. PrOMiSE is a prospective, interventional, one-group, open-label, multicentric, international study conducted in European sites, specialized in radio-oncology. Patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) starting RT and with no oral mucositis (OM) lesion at the time of inclusion, will be eligible. They will be treated by PBM using CareMin650 during the whole period of radiotherapy.

Oral MucositisThis study is a randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled, two-arm study conducted in subjects receiving chemoradiation therapy for the treatment of head and neck cancer to assess the efficacy of MuGard. The study will evaluate the ability of MuGard to reduce the symptoms of oral mucositis. The study includes a treatment period of approximately 7 weeks depending on the subject's prescribed radiation plan. MuGard is a liquid that is classified as a medical device. It is a hydrated polymer system (oral hydrogel) and is intended for the management of oral mucositis/stomatitis. When gently distributed within the mouth, the mucoadhesive formulation results in the formation of a protective coating over the oral mucosa. Subjects undergoing chemotherapy with radiation for the treatment of head and neck cancer are at high risk of developing oral mucositis as an adverse side-effect of cancer treatment. MuGard was previously shown to reduce the incidence and severity of mucositis in head and neck cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy when compared with data from historical control groups. The purpose of this study is to perform a direct comparison of the effectiveness of MuGard with a control group.
